Montjeu and his fellow star at Coolmore, Galileo, are firmly entrenched as the two best classic stallions in Europe. This year, the first two home in the English Derby were Pour Moi and Treasure Beach (by Galileo).
The teenage French jockey Mickaël Barzalona announced his arrival as a world-class jockey by driving Pour Moi to a last-gasp success in the Derby, which he celebrated in equally dramatic style by standing up in his irons three strides before he crossed the line, inches ahead of Treasure Beach. The Queen’s horse, Carlton House, was sent off favourite but could finish only third.
