Debut win for Hard Rock was no fluke whatsoever when he returned to the same course and and won the Godolphin Barb Stakes over 1000m.
Trainer Deon Visser was having the day of his professional life at Clairwood on Sunday – a win in the Gr3 Godolphin Barb for 2yo colts followed by the equivalent race for fillies in the Gr3 Strelitzia Stakes.
Even a wide draw didn’t deter his supporters from sending him out as the 18/10 favourite for this first leg of the Cape Winter Challenge series for 3yo’s

Captain’s Wild looks to be a progressive sort and the four-year-old coped comfortably with his first tilt at a Feature race when he won the Colorado King Stakes over 2000m at Turffontein (standside) on Saturday.

The Pretty Polly Stakes for two-year-old fillies over 1100m produced a surprise result when 25/1 chance Sheztheclubqueen – unplaced in her two previous starts – quickened the best on the soft ground to land the spoils.
The Jacaranda Handicap for fillies and mares over 1800m was dominated by horses carrying the colours of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and trained by Mike de Kock. They filled the first two places, with Fisani running out a very comfortable winner at the expense of stable companion Alderry
The Protea Stakes for two-year-olds over 1100m was won impressively by Australian-bred Delago Deluxe, who started as the 22/10 favourite in a field of 12 after making mincemeat of maiden rivals on his sole previous appearance over 1200m at the Vaal in February.
