Following a calamitous situation last Saturday, which also impacted upon SA punters and which reportedly cost the industry as much as a A$100 million in lost revenue – with a A$7 million hit to racing’s bottom line – TAB has gone on the front foot as it looks to the future.
Tabcorp Australia is undergoing a rigorous analysis of what transpired last Saturday, including a “thorough and urgent” investigation into the systems failure of its computers that led to a widespread malfunction of the nationwide betting system.
As the situation returns to normal, Tabcorp’s managing director of wagering and media, Adam Rytenskild expressed his regrets to dailytelegraph.com.au, saying:
“I can understand the frustrations and I’m very sorry for what has occurred, sorry for our customers especially, and to the racing industry. We will definitely be doing something quite substantial for our customers over the coming days and weeks, we are very focused on that.”
Early indications are that smoke from a possible fire significantly damaged major servers which led to the shutdown. Adding fuel to the metaphorical flame, Tabcorp’s back-up servers failed to respond adequately to the meltdown.
There are believed to have been no incidents of hacking or associated data breaches.
