Carryovers during the lockdown phase, when we are punting on a host of various small exotic destinations, have been queried by punters.
The Sporting Post receives regular questions from punters who feel that the aspect of carryovers is not being communicated – never mind, with any transparency.
“Where are the carryover advices? On Wednesday we had about R60 000 carried over, including R21 000 in the Bipot. We just never hear about these relatively minor amounts – which through 35 days of lockdown could add up to substantial amounts. TAB cannot just pocket it. This is punter’s money!” wrote one KZN player.
Another felt that the carryover fund should be available for access and viewing on the TAB website.
“They say they have the policy in place and, fair enough, let them decide how best to use it. But it does not belong to them. It’s ours. It should be held in trust and reflected accordingly. Not be used as part of a troubled entity’s working capital requirements,” said another.
A spokesman for the company told the Sporting Post on Good Friday that in terms of carryovers currently, TAB’s policy remains unchanged.
“They are accumulated in same bet-type stockpiles until the amounts are big enough to get the interest of customers and then used around month-end, when customer participation is at a peak. That simultaneously gives us the opportunity to ensure such carryovers are fully marketed and communicated,” he confirmed.
