Jockey Mathew Thackeray has picked up a 14 day suspension for his riding of Dame Colleen in the third race at the Vaal on Thursday.
Thackeray was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to Alabama Storm (Jeff Syster) when he shifted in at approximately the 1400m
Syster was dislodged from his mount, which stumbled and fell after clipping the heels of Dame Colleen(Thackeray), which shifted in when insufficiently clear.
Syster was attended to by the course medics on the scene for a suspected fractured collar bone, transferred to the medical centre and thereafter dispatched to hospital for further observation.
Thackeray signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of fourteen days.
In an incident in the sixth race, an exchange between jockeys Muzi Yeni (Flag Bearer( and Ryan Munger (Prime Example, the eventual winner) is the subject of an inquiry, which has been opened by the Stipes. Yeni appeared to cross Munger’s mount, whereafter Munger lashes out with his crop.
