Super Storm won his first grade 3 when he needed it the most, beating stable companion Brown Penny for honours in the grade 3 Cup Trial at Clairwood yesterday. This important victory should have booked him a spot in this year’s Vodacom Durban July.
Mike Bass is of the opinion that the run would surely have booked himself a slot in this year’s July line up. “He has always been a smart sort, he’s been a bit unlucky in his racing in the past perhaps should of finishing a lot closer on numerous occasions, but this race has come just in time, and I think he deserves a shot at the July. Dunford and Super Storm were both 4 time winners before landing their first feature races, both grade three’s; Dunford the Cup Trial, and Super Storm the Peninsula. Although completely different in build and appearance, they adopted similar versatile running styles, a good late turn of foot and both were late bloomers.
