Recent winners to put their hands up for the final sprint feature of the Cape summer include impressive Lebelo Sprint winner Rebel’s Champ and Brett Crawford’s speed merchant Pacific Trader, who beat a strong field at Kenilworth last Saturday, but is yet to win a feature race.

Other features on the day include the R1 million Bidvest Gr1 Majorca Stakes, the R1 million Gr1 Cape Derby, the R400 000 Gr2 Western Cape Stayers and the R150 000 Tattersalls Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes.

Two race sales races round off the programmes. At R5 million apiece, the CTS 1200 and the CTS 1600 are our richest non black-type sales restricted races.

According to the latest programme, the R350 000 Kuda Sprint is no longer on the Met Day programme and will be run at a date still to be confirmed.

The final supplementary entries for the Sun Met close at 11h00 on Monday 7 January. The weights will be published the same day.

The fashion theme this year is an interesting one.

Precious Metals set the scene for the day as Kenilworth Racecourse will transform into the city’s most glittering runway, adorned with gold, copper and platinum. Inspired by the riches of the earth, the theme is a celebration of Africa’s most luxurious gems with racing enthusiasts and fashionistas expected to don their most opulent outfits.

In contrast to last year’s theme, which brought Kenilworth Racecourse to life in shweshwe textures and African-inspired prints, the 2019 Sun Met promises to be just as glamorous on a day when elite horse-racing meets high-end fashion.

Whether you go bold in gold, rock the red carpet in copper or parade in platinum, get ready for a dazzling day at the races.

General access tickets and hospitality packages for the Sun Met 2019 are now available at www.ticketpros.co.za.

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
