The Vaughan Marshall-trained Tap O’Noth, narrow but decisive winner of the Cape Guineas, is on course for the Gr1 Investec Cape Derby and is the highest-rated horse of the 30 entries for the 2000m event at Kenilworth on Saturday 27 January.
Since Rabiya in 2005 the only Cape Guineas winners to go on to land the Cape Derby have been Jay Peg (2007) and Capetown Noir (2013).
Brett Crawford has won two of the last five runnings of the Cape Derby – with Jackson and Edict Of Nantes 12 months ago – and his entries are headed by White River who was a 0.50-length second in the Guineas.
Mike de Kock, successful with Ertijaal three years ago, has entered four including the Cape Guineas third Like A Panther.
