Visitors arriving in a drought-stricken Cape Town for the Sun Met were greeted with some egte Suid Afrikaanse hospitality courtesy of Hollywood at Cape Town International Airport on Thursday.
“Wow, what a lovely surprise. A deep purple welcome with style!” said a relaxed looking former top jockey Tex Lerena, as he was handed a complimentary Winning Form and Sporting Post on his arrival.
South Africa’s world-class and leading racing publications were snapped up by excited visitors to the Mother City!
Tex, whose top jockey son Gavin is currently recovering from glandular fever, is here with friends and said he would be supporting his nephew, Brandon, who partners Krambambuli for Justin Snaith in the big race.
The event that caters for thousands of horse racing and fashion enthusiasts will not use Kenilworth Racecourse’s water in an attempt to support the province’s drive to conserve this scarce and precious resource.
The organisers are bringing in 60 000 litres of water, sourced outside of Cape Town, from an area that is not experiencing water restrictions, to service guests and racegoers this coming Saturday.
In doing so, all parties involved can ensure that racegoers enjoy the festivities without adding to Cape Town’s current water crisis.
“Furthermore, a plan will be made and put into action to ensure that any surplus water following the Sun Met event is put to use to help alleviate the Cape Town water crisis,” assures Rob Collins, Chief Operations Officer of Sun International.
So shower with a friend – and enjoy the racing!
