Heavy overnight rain forced today’s race meeting at the Vaal to be abandoned, but the Turffontein Standside Track is in better shape with the going good to soft at the time writing after 32.6mm of rain in the last seven days.
But more rain is expected on Friday with thundershowers forecast on Saturday morning and late in the afternoon.
Consequently, a decision will be made by 8am on Saturday whether to leave starting times as is or change them to improve the prospects of racing.

Clyde Basel – predicts a super day
All horseplayers must check on Saturday morning whether starting times have been altered because obviously any changes will impact on the closing times of pools like the Pick 6 and Jackpot.
“We believe the track can handle another 40mm or so of rain, which will in all probability take the penetrometer readings to around 30, which will indicate a soft to heavy track. Right now, though, we are positive that the track is in good condition and expect a super Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup Day,” said Phumelela Horseracing Executive Clyde Basel.
