Striving For The Top – In The Saddle And Out

Avontuur to sponsor Anthony Delpech

Anthony Delpech, the current season’s South African jockey-log leader, and Avontuur are joining forces to promote the Cape farm’s fine wines and thoroughbreds. Avontuur already has a highly successful sponsorship arrangement with jockey ‘MJ’ Byleveld.

The new partnership is a natural for the jockey as well as the farm, as both are seeking high profiles and are big on wine and thoroughbreds. In racing, Delpech has his sights firmly set on the 2011 SA Jockey championship, while Avontuur’s Pippa Mickleburgh is closely involved with a new South African sprint championship, the VAR Sprint Series. The Series is named for resident Avontuur stallion Var, champion sprinter in Europe in his days and now a producer of Gr1 sprinters in South Africa.

Where wines are concerned, Anthony Delpech knows what he likes. The family eats out a lot and enjoyment of wine is an important part of that. “I’ll show the Avontuur logo on my breeches with confidence”, he says. “They want to be the best as much as I do, so working together will be great”.

Avontuur’s Pippa Mickleburgh is equally ecstatic.  “We’ve wanted to associate with Anthony for a long time. It’s fantastic when things fall into place. With his talent, the increased visibility for the farm, our wines, our yearlings, and our stallion Var will pay big dividends.”
