Multiple SA Champion jockey Piere Strydom flies out to Mauritius today to ride for trainer Rameshwar Gujadhur.
The good news for ‘Striker’ fans is that he will be available to ride at the Vodacom Durban July meeting at Greyville on 6 July.
One of our greatest jockeys of all time, Strydom recently said that one of the horses he would like to ride in the July is Snaith’s Doublemint, who came in off a top-class Sun Met run in January and ran a 1.15 length seventh in Saturday’s Gr2 WSB 1900.
The weight could, however be an issue for Striker as Doublemint may carry 53kgs in the July.
Strydom last won the July on The Conglomerate for Joey Ramsden in 2016.
The top jockey would have been pleased to see an impressive showing on Saturday by the Gujadhur yard’s White River, who won the Champ de Mars feature, the Mauritius Derby Trial Cup, with ease under Manuel Nunes.
The 2017 Cape Guineas runner-up has won both his starts on the island and looks set to play a dominant role in the next few months.
