Steyn Fined For Behaviour At Pull-Up

Has right of appeal against finding and penalty

The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa (NHA) confirms that at an Inquiry held in Gqeberha on Thursday, 10 April 2025, Jockey Keanen Steyn was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.11.

The particulars being that he pulled up TO BE FREE abruptly, instead of easing it up gradually after the finish of Race 6 at Fairview Racecourse on 4 March 2025.

Jockey Steyn pleaded not guilty, however, he was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after reviewing the evidence presented and considering the mitigating and aggravating factors presented, as well as taking Jockey Steyn’s clean record with regards to contraventions of this Rule into account, imposed a penalty of a fine of R1000 (One Thousand Rand).

Jockey Steyn was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
