Vaal trainer Stephanus Botha has been heavily fined and almost lost his licence after an utterance landed him in hot water.
Botha was charged under NHRA rule 72.1.43 for conducting himself in an improper manner on Sunday 23 August 2020 at the Vaal Racecourse.
He apparently uttered a word which could reasonably be construed to be either obscene, offensive, defamatory, racist, threatening, harassing, discriminating, sexist or abusive to any other person or entity involved in the racing industry or bring the good name of any person or entity in the industry or the NHRA into disrepute.
Botha was fined R50 000 and the cancellation of his Trainer’s Licence, which is wholly suspended for a period of two years on condition that he is not found guilty of the same transgression of this Rule during this period.
