In a heart-stopping finish that went to the judge, the national championship winning combination of Paul Peter and Warren Kennedy came out tops in the R200 000 Epol Gr2 Umkhomazi Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
After doing the donkey work up front and looking a winner inside the final 250m, Swing Upon A Star (14-1) enjoyed the drop in trip from a mile and held on doggedly by a hair breadth to hold off a flying Sun Blushed (20-1) and Rachel Venniker in a time of 70,92 secs.
Stuart Pettigrew’s 15-10 fancy Mercantour saved a few Place Accumulator players by rattling late to run third, a further 0,30 lengths adrift.
Raced by Messrs G, K & M M Nassif and Ian Levitan, the winner was bred by Narrow Creek Stud and is a son of Elusive Fort (Fort Wood) out of the one-time winning Eliza Doolittle (Judpot).
Swing Upon A Star is a winner of 2 races with 2 places from 5 starts for stakes of R219 250.
