First Winner for Meteor Shower

Meteor Shower, a Danehill full-brother to dual Gr1 hero Spartacus and Gr2 winner Johan Cruyff, registered his first winner when first-crop daughter POWER TO SUCCEED made a winning debut up the Vaal straight. A half-sister to Gr3 winning sprinter Deliver The Power (Toreador), the Dominic Zaki-trained filly justified her cramped odds with a smooth one-length victory over the minimum trip.

Purchased at the 2006 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale, her sire arrived at the Mike Bass yard having
placed twice in Britain at three for Aidan O’Brien. He promptly broke his maiden first time out over a mile and
immediately followed up with a victory over 2400m. Meteor Shower matured into a fine stayer and notched up seven wins over the next two seasons, the highlight of which a facile victory in the Gr2 Chairman’s Cup over two miles.

Retired to stud in 2009, he is one of the resident stallions at David Hepburn-Brown’s Hemel ‘n Aarde Stud, where
appropriately, his first winner was bred.
