Sporting Post Jockeys In Winning Form!

Firing under the new flag!

On a terrific day for two brand-new Sporting Post sponsored jockeys, Athandiwe Mgudlwa and Calvin Ngcobo rode 50% of the winners on the Hollywoodbets Greyville racecard on Wednesday.

Ngcobo, who only returned to race-riding in July after a four-year injury enforced break, booted favourite Victory Belle home in the opener for Glen Kotzen, to maintain his 23% win strike-rate.

The 31 year old Athandiwe Mgudlwa, who rode the jackpot in a rare feat for an apprentice, celebrated a genuine hat-trick when guiding home the final three winners in a 1000 to 1 treble to end the day.

Gimme A Lullabye (11-2) won the sixth for Yogas Govender, while the in-form Hollywoodbets sponsored Garth Puller saddled the final double, with African Skyline (28-10) and Desert Pride (14-1) winning the last two races.

It was a superb start to his new sponsorship for Mgudlwa.

“I have been ready and waiting!” he joked in a reference to the leading media brand’s new support.

“Mr Puller has been a mentor with my riding and a great supporter with opportunities. Thanks to Mr Govender and the owners of all three winners. I am going home to my family to enjoy a celebratory supper. And then tomorrow it’s business as usual,” he laughed.
