Son of Spectrum to retire as Stallion Prospect
In Ireland, Ballymacoll Stud announced Gr2-winning & 4-time Gr1-placed 5YO entire Tartan Bearer (Spectrum-Highland Gift, by Generous) has been retired “following nagging problems” which have kept him sidelined since finishing runner-up in last year’s UK Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (12 furlongs) at Ascot and “will be sold as a stallion prospect”. Tartan Bearer (a full-brother to Coolmore-owned dual Gr1-winning stallion Golan) recorded 3 wins (including both 2008’s UK Gr2 Dante Stakes over 10.5 furlongs at York and UK Gr3 Gordon Richards Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown Park) and 4 placings (also including 2009’s UK Gr1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes over 10 furlongs at Royal Ascot, plus 2008’s Gr1 Irish Derby over 12 furlongs at the Curragh & Gr1 English Derby over 12 furlongs at Epsom Downs) from 8 starts for over £840,000 earnings.
