Soccer: The English Premiership

Liverpool v Manchester City- Sunday 27th November – Anfield (18:00)

Charlie Adam - Liverpool

The English Premiership is really spoiling football fans as it brings us another top of the table clash. Most fans are still recovering from last weekend’s mouth watering clashes and this encounter is expected to be a real cracker.

Kenny Dalglish has been a real revelation for Liverpool this season. The Scotsman has got the reds playing some scintillating football at times and is bringing back the Liverpool of old. The team looks much more solid than they did two years ago, their defence give very little away, while their attacking force can be lethal at times. They are coming off a morale boosting and emphatic victory over their fellow title contenders Chelsea. The reds were the better of the two teams in the first half, but dropped off the pace in the second half and it looked like the game would end in a draw, until Glen Johnson popped up with a moment of brilliance to silence the Stamford Bridge crowd.  Liverpool currently sits in 6th place with 22 points. Liverpool is still without talisman Steven Gerrard who continues to fight his way back from injury. However Charlie Adam has filled in Gerrard’s midfield role perfectly and played his part in Sunday’s win by creating both goals.

Manchester City continues to prove that they are still the team to beat as they gave another vintage display at home to title chasers Newcastle. They dominated large periods of the game and despite been awarded two penalties they were good value for their victory. Roberto Mancini has put together a team that so far looks like they can go all the way. They still maintain their unbeaten record after 12 matches and boast the best goal difference. Mancini has more than enough depth at his disposal as he can afford to rotate freely and to a devastating effect. Mancini recently stated that he is pleased with his team’s progress, but realizes that there is still a long way to go and expects his squad to maintain focus throughout the season. David Silva is in great form as he continues to dictate things in the midfield and has supplied the bulk of opportunities for his front line. Mario Balotelli has also proven his worth to the team and his confidence could prove key for City here.

Both teams are in good form and will be looking for a victory in this encounter to continue their pursuit to the title. The draw is the favored result in this encounter as there is very little that should separate them considering the Reds are playing at Anfield.
