Snaith’s SA Record

Justin Snaith breaks SA season winner record

Justin Snaith

Justin Snaith. Terrificseason and not yet over!

Trainer Justin Snaith reached another landmark at Kenilworth on Saturday in what has been a glorious season.

The Phillipi based Snaith clocked his 175th winner after a hat trick on a glorious midwinter afternoon at the Southern Suburbs venue.

The Jay Peg  filly Pegwell Bay ridden by Bernard  Fayd’herbe won the third race and equalled the record.

The appropriately named Highly Decorated took them to the new record figure by winning the final race in great style. Fayd’herbe also rode that winner.

The previous record of 174 winners was held by Geoff Woodruff.

Woodruff’s father in law Terrance Millard held the original record of 141 winner in a single season.

A perusal of the statistics in recent years shows that current SA Champion Mike De Kock has reached 157 in a season.

Speaking to the Sporting Post, Snaith said that he was aiming for 185 winners by the end of this season. That would be around 11 winners for the month of July.

“I have enjoyed my most memorable season so far. When the season started I thought I had a slight chance of beating the SA total winners record but breaking the record of most winners on a day was such a pleasant surprise. You can never quite plan these things, they often just happen (or they don’t!). Right now all my focus has shifted to the Vodacom Durban July this weekend. I am making certain that both my charges produce their very best on Saturday. Whether that is good enough or not we will soon find out but we are going out fighting ,” said  the competitive Justin.
