Singapore this Sunday

Sunday 2nd September

Makes no bones about it; SUPER EASY is the real deal.
The DARCI BRAHMA entire has taken all before him winning all eleven Singapore starts with some pundits suggesting he could be better than the side-lined star of Singapore, ROCKET MAN.
But the ‘Rockets’ are big shoes to fill and although un-beaten in Singapore and likely odds-on favourite in Sundays Jumbo Jet Trophy, SUPER EASY faces his biggest test to date at Kranji.
And his trainer, Michael Freedman, is the man to blame.
The astute Aussie handler has placed his stable star so well since arriving in Singapore that the 4YO has only carried 57kg three times – all against his own age group – with 54kg being the most he has had to carry in Open company.
So while his last start win in the Paititi Gold Trophy was impressive, SUPER EASY has to carry 57.5kg at WFA conditions in the Group 3 Jumbo Jet and might just have to lift to knock in his record-equaling twelfth straight win in Singapore.
But who bets against him?
Obviously value will be found elsewhere and a horse like ATO – winner of the International Group 1 KrisFlyer Sprint – has to be considered as does CAPTAIN OBVIOUS who heads the ratings at 118.
Throw in GINGERBREAD MAN, RED BEARD and everyone’s favourite galloper, WAIKATO, and the 1400m Classic is a beauty with history sure to be made.

Race 7

Selections; 3 KAISER – 4 RAPIDO STAR – 1 U GOT IT – 7 DOLLHOUSE
Some nice types in this but KAISER looks well placed fresh to turn some fair form into a result for followers. The 4YO won a couple on the trot in similar, if not better affairs than this prior to some OK runs in better company before excuses at his last start. All things being equal he can show his best here. Likewise RAPIDO STAR can show his best in what is a suitable Poly sprint. The American-bred 4YO looked an out-and-out Poly specialist before facing some tough opposition at recent starts and can bounce back to winning form in this company. U GOT IT is a nice horse to follow and happy to do just that – value would be nice – with DOLLHOUSE also worth serious thought first up from gate one (market a very good guide). Last start winner RALEIGH some hope if luck from wide gate.

1 U GOT IT *** Just going too well this company not to be a huge show. 4.00
2 RALEIGH ** Broke a long runs of outs to win last start and has to be respected despite wide gate. 8.00
3 KAISER *** Very much appreciates this company and 3kg claim – big winning show. 4.00
4 RAPIDO STAR *** Would bolt this in at his best and upgrade to blinkers with Moreira on-board suggests he goes close. 3.50
5 PEACEFUL WARRIOR ** Still prefer over longer but showing enough similar affairs to follow at value. 20
6 BAZINGA ** Late Macau. Hard to have on last couple but some show if on his game. 33
7 DOLLHOUSE *** Speedy filly resuming and worth some thought from gate one. 6.00
8 COLLECT THE CASH * Struggling. 50
9 VELLFIRE * No. 200
10 ANDIKO ** Placed at value last start and pay to follow. 20
11 RAGING STORM ** The type to keep very safe and will be flying late but love to see in Class 4. 20
12 DYNAMIC DAN * Should find this too short and happy to wait for easier and a tad longer. 50
13 FAT BOY * Late FAT KING. Another who needs longer/easier. 100

Race 8

Selections; 2 BETTER LIFE – 7 LET’S SEE ACTION – 1 RAFAGA – 8 DUJARDIN
A tough race but a beauty with some serious up-and-coming WFA stars doing battle at handicap conditions over the mile. And while the likes of CASH LUCK, LET’S SEE ACTION, RAFAGA and DUJARDIN can all win and are horses to follow, BETTER LIFE looks an exciting prospect and is the horse to be on today. The Australian-bred 4YO mare has won four from seven in her career thus far but it was perhaps her luckless unplaced run in the Guineas that stamped her as top-line. Obviously her last start win – by over five lengths – tells us she came through that previous preparation in fine order and all eye’s will be on the rising star of the Takaoka stable. Of the other horses mentioned, LET’S SEE ACTION looks nicely placed stepping up to the mile after a very good 1400m win but nothing between the four and worth looking for value on the day.

1 RAFAGA *** Did it tough last start and form obviously suggest she goes close here with 3kg claim a factor. 12
2 BETTER LIFE *** Exciting filly who blitzed her rivals last time out and can win again. 2.50
3 CASH LUCK ** Last two runs ordinary but goes super on his day and blinkers removed could see a return to form. Keep safe. 14
4 MARTIAL ART ** Showed enough last start to think he is ready to show some form but might need longer to show his best. 33
5 SILVERON WINGS ** Well beaten last start but form prior has him winning a race like this at odds. 20
6 HEAD START ** Has threatened to show something last couple but yet to deliver – take on trust. 33
7 LET’S SEE ACTION *** Won in what looked a solid field last start and happy to think he plays a big role here with 52.5kg. 4.50
8 DUJARDIN *** Smart stayer who goes close over the mile with no weight and good gate in his favour. 3.50
9 FREEZEMASTER ** Just fair last start but previously run behind LET’S SEE ACTION was very good – keep safe. 10
10 ILUMINADO ** Last start winner and while this is tougher he could run a place with gate one a factor. 50
11 JUST DASHING * Needs easier than this. 100

Race 9

Selections; 3 STREET LEGAL – 5 BENGAWAN – 11 INCREDIBLE HULK – 12 GET IT
Two bends on the tight inner track for claiming riders only made this race tough enough. Add 10 or so genuine winning hopes and it is impossible. But when in doubt we head straight to a couple of recent Class droppers in STREET LEGAL and BENGAWAN. STREET LEGAL in particular appeals given the fact he looked like winning down in the weights in Class 4 with support on occasion. And although not having a Poly win to his name, STREET LEGAL wins sooner than later in this grade and it will pay to follow. BENGAWAN is also a recent Class dropper but in his favour is the fact this is his first run this company over a suitable trip. He was home great last start and goes mighty close with any luck from the wide gate. Throw the proverbial blanket over the rest but blinkers on INCREDIBLE HULK is an interesting move and GET IT did win well last start. SOCIAL NETWORK the long-shot hope back in this Class.

1 CAPRICCIOSO *** Broke through last start to break maiden status over the mile and can follow. 7.00
2 SOCIAL NETWORK ** Form reads badly (to say the least) but big drop in Class and pay to keep safe with one eye on the market. 33
3 STREET LEGAL *** Has been in solid enough form in Class 4 so this looks perfect up in distance and down in Class to win. 4.00
4 ALL THE BEST *** Turned some solid form into a win similar affair and should be thereabouts again. 8.00
5 BENGAWAN *** Showed plenty over unsuitable shorter trip last start and goes mighty close here. 8.00
6 MY FIELD *** Last start better than the result and plays a part in this if handier when needed. 33
7 TORNADO WIN *** Had no luck with bad gates of late but will be working home late and has to be included somewhere. 7.50
8 NORTHERN CAT *** Been in the mix for a while now this type of race and plays a part somewhere. 8.00
9 GOLDEN FRIENDS * Should be doing better this type of race. 100
10 TAKESHI ** Has been a shade disappointing but some show at best. 33
11 INCREDIBLE HULK *** Keeps swooping without a result so blinkers go on – keep safe. 12
12 GET IT *** Won well last start and experienced claimer looks a good move – can win. 5.00
13 CHENGDU WARRIOR * No. 200
14 WHO ELS ** Won two starts back and usually battles away. 33

Race 10

Selections; 12 SUPER EASY – 2 ATO – 1 CAPTAIN OBVIOUS – 8 RED BEARD
SUPER EASY picks himself. The field is good and it’s his biggest test at WFA against older horses but eleven straight wins in Singapore suggests he is more than up to the task. So while it would be nice to call an upset or go for value, SUPER EASY should win. But given the quality of the field – ATO with an International Group win on his CV to name just one – SUPER EASY might sneak out to evens or thereabouts and punters would probably take that on any given Sunday. Obviously ATO will have admirers and be in the thick of this finish as will the highest rated horse in the race, CAPTAIN OBVIOUS. Throw in RED BEARD into the serious exotic mix at value – his poor Derby run had to be an anomaly – with special mentions to DEEP POCKETS, GINGERBREAD MAN and the old-boy WAIKATO. Great race but SUPER EASY is a great horse.

1 CAPTAIN OBVIOUS *** Placed behind SUPER EASY in the Paititi Gold Trophy and very much appreciates the WFA conditions of this – in the mix. 20
2 ATO *** Freshened after backing up his KrisFlyer victory with a win over the mile in May – going super so follow. 4.00
3 FIGHTER JET ** First run in Singapore was solid and recent win in Malaysia was over this trip – keep safe in exotics at odds. 50
4 WAIKATO ** Grand-old warrior who always comes under consideration at WFA. 50
5 FLYING FULTON ** In super consistent form but would need to be at his very best over this trip. 50
6 GINGERBREAD MAN ** First up after disappointing run in the Derby – do not underestimate as 1400m looks ideal. 12
7 THE COMEDIAN ** Have to respect over the trip with only query at the weights. 50
8 RED BEARD *** Won six from eight before shocker in the Derby – can bounce back over best trip as very smart. 10
9 WON’T STOP ** Will need luck from the bad gate but can race handy and hard to pass at his best. 33
10 FLYING WEST ** Rarely runs a bad race and always value so a must for exotics. 33
11 DEEP POCKETS ** Smart stayer – second in the Derby – who will be doing best work late over this trip and pay to follow towards November. 8.00
12 SUPER EASY *** Unbeaten in eleven Singapore starts and while this is his biggest test meeting some top horses at near-on equal weights, he should make it twelve. 1.80

Race 11

Selections; 1 PERWIRA – 7 AFRIEND – 6 RORY – 3 DEN
PERWIRA is in form, is super consistent and gets his chance in this average Class 4 field to knock in a well deserved win. The DUBAWI 5YO hasn’t finished worse than fourth and has placed four times at his last seven starts; in a race with no stand-outs he should show his best. AFRIEND looks the danger after drawing gate 1. Stephen Baster takes the ride and while AFRIEND needs to find a length or two on his form of late, he is more than capable at his best and worth a serious look here. RORY, with Barend Vorster riding for Theo Kaiser, steps up from an OK maiden win into a weak Class 4 and obviously should be competitive with DEN also appreciating what is an average field. MAGIC DIVA some hope if any luck from the wide alley and worth following into Class 5 (if he gets there).

1 PERWIRA *** No match for the strong winner last start but in the mix as usually and is certainly due. 3.00
2 LIGHTNING MAC ** Form reads badly but freshened after jockey reported not striding last start and recent trial OK. 33
3 DEN *** Was due for a bad one after three straight wins so can forgive and pay to keep safe. 4.50
4 NEW BEGINNING ** Never involved last start and form prior ordinary but worth one more look this company. 50
5 ZAC COERCION * Maybe mot 100% fit on resuming and should benefit from the run. 50
6 RORY *** Coming off a good Restricted win and looks to have found a nice Class 4 race – right in this. 3.50
7 AFRIEND *** Always an each way hope in races like this and from gate one in this field he must be a serious chance. 5.00
8 MAGIC OCEAN * Reassess Class 5. 100
9 MAGIC DIVA *** Excuses last start not to finish closer and had support – keep very safe here. 8.00
10 BEST BARGAIN * Has speed but might just need Class 5 after drawing wide. 33
11 LOOK AT ME * Longer and easier. 50

Race 12

Selections; 9 RONNIE BROWN – 1 CHINESE CULTURE – 4 RAVOUX – 6 KALLISAN
RONNIE BROWN looks a very handy type. Sent off as the punters odds-on elect on debut, the DARCI BRAHMA 3YO showed he could be the real deal winning by over four lengths in a proverbial canter. That win was over 1000m on the Poly but strong enough to think he handles the step up in distance and Class and hard to beat. The race has depth and he has drawn wide so perhaps not the best betting option in what looks a fitting finish to a strong days racing. A horse that might be value and good enough to win a race like this is CHINESE CULTURE. The Shane Baertschiger-trained entire is dropping back in trip but that might not be bad thing given he has raced handy with blinkers and certainly has ability. RAVOUX has blinkers off and although drawing gate one, might race off the pace and be flying late – watch at value. Other that should figure in the mix includes the consistent KALLISAN, last start winners MARCUSINO and D’CREATOR with VON SNITZEL also worth a look.
1 CHINESE CULTURE *** Back in trip after solid run over the mile but handy and right in this late. 12
2 GOOD TOWKAY ** Form starting to read badly but better than what he should last couple and look for some improvement. 33
3 MARCUSINO *** Coming off a strong Poly win in same company – follow. 8.00
4 RAVOUX *** Needs a result for support and good form so head-gear off and look for big run late. 12
5 RIO FORTUNE *** Not far away last start and goes well for this hoop – watch. 8.00
6 KALLISAN *** Showed last start why she is always a hope in races like this and 4kg can’t hurt. 7.00
7 D’CREATOR *** Steps up in Class after solid maiden win – watch market but should be competitive. 8.00
8 VON SNITZEL *** Resuming after being disappointing as odds-on pop last start but certainly worth another look with upgrade to blinkers. 8.00
9 RONNIE BROWN *** Won too well on debut not to think he is the one to beat in this. 3.00
10 BUNKER TROUBLE * No. 200
11 ACE ARMANDO ** Form starting to look like he needs it easier but can run a cheeky race. 33
12 SHINKANSEN ** Nothing last start but obviously goes OK on his day. 33
13 TENUPONTEN ** Maiden but has been thereabouts in this type of race – follow each-way. 20
14 JEREMY * Reassess more suitable race. 100
15 HANG TUAH ** Excuses not to finish closer last couple and might be worth a long-shot look if he gets a start. 50

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
