Singapore Racing – Sunday

Sunday 20 July

As you would expect on the Sunday following Derby Day, the 11 race card is solid without being spectacular.

But some good punting races with some value on offer coupled with a few that might get backed into win, makes it a good day of racing with the tote a terrific guide.

One that might get heavy support is BOOMERANG DELUXE who finally gets to jump from a fair gate in race 10.

The 3YO won on debut but has had a horror run at the barrier draws since and had to jump from double-digit gates at his last three.

Regular hoop, Corey Brown, will give him every chance from gate 5 and his form – which is better than it looks on paper – suggests he wins if on his game.

In the lucky last, CONFIERO might be the one the punters jump on.

The former Malaysian galloper – who broke his maiden status by bolting in by nine lengths some three starts back – showed at his Singapore debut he is more than up to this company and can win with the Panamanian wizard, Oscar Chavez, on-board.

Elsewhere on the card, ULTIMATE WARRIOR doesn’t win often but looks well placed to change that in KSD company in race 8 and LOYAL FRIENDS might also provide each-way value down in Class in race 8.

Race 8

Selections; 1 LOYAL FRIENDS – 6 DRAGON G – 9 MAREA NEGRO – 7 ZAC SUGGESTION
Not many races have this many genuine winning hopes and bar the 50% well-named SILVER STREAK, all have claims. We always love a Class dropper and in a wide-open race like this a Class dropper looks a good place to start. LOYAL FRIENDS is the horse in question (although Silver Streak did race in Group company last start) and given what he showed over 1400m in Class 3 at his last start, this race and trip looks perfect. Of the rest, three horses come through the same race – a mile won by Panama City – and that form should hold up. In finishing order – DRAGON G, MAREA NEGRO and ZAC SUGGESTION – all should race well and in the mix. You can’t name them all but we have
been following TO BE REMEMBERED and BILLY BRITAIN is the only horse with a last start win to his name. Do your best!

1 LOYAL FRIENDS *** Placed last start at long odds and looks a leading hope down in grade, up in trip. 6.00
2 SCRAPPER WELL *** In-form without a result but mile should suit. 4.00
3 BILLY BRITAIN *** Won well when swooping first-up over 1400m and have to follow. 6.00
4 TO BE REMEMBERED *** Excuses not to finish close this company last start and happy to give another chance over the mile. 6.00
5 SUPER VOICE ** Downgrade to winkers after just fair run with support last start similar affair and in the mix. 8.00
6 DRAGON G *** Close-up placing this type of race last start at odds and right in this. 6.00
7 ZAC SUGGESTION *** Excuses last start not to finish closer and might be the value runner in a wide open affair. 12
8 BATTLE BOY ** Maiden who has shown he could pinch a race in this Class with no weight. Keep safe. 12
9 MAREA NEGRO *** Showed last start in similar affair she more than handles the company. Each-way. 12
10 SILVER STREAK * No. 200

Race 9

Selections; 2 ULTIMATE WARRIOR – 6 BLOSSOMS SEQUEL – 4 DANNY – 9 POWERFUL FIGHTER
ULTIMATE WARRIOR has been a disappointing horse in the fact he has only won twice from some 50 odd starts in Singapore but at some stages of his career (nee Tarankali), he was more than competitive in open company and even had a dip at the 2010 Singapore Derby. Now an 8YO, he finds himself in KSD company and after plenty of runs over
unsuitable trips with a good recent sighter for his latest trainer, Brian Dean, under his belt, he looks ready to win again. Why not? The track, trip and grade suits and hopefully he provides value given his lack of success. Plenty of others in form and can win though and BLOSSOMS SEQUEL looks well placed back on his winning surface to race very well and the likes of DANNY, GALLANT HEIGHTS and POWERFUL FIGHTER all coming off last start wins. Throw in GODS SPEED for value in what is a nice race.

1 AMBER SHADE ** Showed nothing on debut but subsequent trial OK so can improve on the Polytrack. 20
2 ULTIMATE WARRIOR *** Showed more than enough last start after moving stables to follow over suitable trip. 12
3 SPINNING SUCCESS * Not at his best of late. 50
4 DANNY *** Broke through for overdue last start in Class 5 and happy to follow. 3.00
5 GALLANT HEIGHTS *** Took a drop to Class 5 to win but another you have to respect with handy 3kg claim. 12
6 BLOSSOMS SEQUEL *** Won maiden this trip and surface three back and subsequent turf runs good. Hard to beat. 4.00
7 SOLID WOOD ** Will be battling away throughout but might need easier to win. 20
8 PINYIN ** Form obviously reads badly but this race does look more suitable to keep an eye on market. 20
9 POWERFUL FIGHTER *** Broke maiden status in Class 5 mile last start and that effort good enough to keep safe. 5.00
10 GODS SPEED *** Been around the mark in similar affairs of late and worth some thought at value. 12
11 ESCALADE PEAK * Last start an improvement but still hard to consider. 33
12 BRILLIANT POWER ** Maiden status a concern but will be doing best work late. 16

Race 10

Selections; 3 BOOMARANG DELUXE – 2 HUGHSY – 10 RAVOUX – 4 CAPTAIN MCCAW
It may only be a KSD but with more than one horse with their foot on the till, it looks a very good punting affair. The obvious choice at first glance is HUGHSY who won very well on debut. The 3YO went back from the wide gate on that occasion and his effort to win this trip was certainly good enough to follow. He should be handier after drawing the ace in this field and probably starts favourite with Davey Flores up. But one we have been following is BOOMERANG DELUXE who also won on debut but has failed to place at five subsequent starts. His form is better than that though and after jumping from double digit gates at this last three runs, Corey Brown will give him every chance after drawing barrier 5. For value hunters, RAVOUX looks ready to win a race like this and given the interest in HUGHSY
and BOOMERANG DELUXE, he will be value as will CAPTAIN MCCAW who is always some hope. PETITE VICTOIRE also looks due in what is a nice race.

1 DRAPPIER * Showed little on debut and might need further. 100
2 HUGHSY *** Won well on debut this trip and looks well placed in KSD company with gate 1 a bonus. 3.00
3 BOOMARANG DELUXE *** Form a lot better than it reads and very much appreciates better gate. Hard to beat. 5.00
4 CAPTAIN MCCAW *** Showed again last start why he is always an each-way hope this type of race. 8.00
5 SACRED CITY ** Disappointing not to have won a race by now in Singapore but in the mix. 12
6 SINGING DUNE * Newcomer from NZ who placed only once from six starts. Longer. 20
7 PETITE VICTOIRE *** Blinkers on after two good runs since arriving from Malaysia. Keep safe. 8.00
8 SHABBAT ** Maiden whose best run was over this trip last start. Market a guide. 8.00
9 VON SNITZEL ** Won very well this trip last start in Class 5 and should be more than competitive. 8.00
10 RAVOUX *** Looks due at value and this trip is his caper. 12
11 BB SAKURA * Excuses last start but needs longer than this. 50
12 SACRED PRINCE * Last start better than the result but needs easier. 50

Race 11

Selections; 12 CONFIERO – 6 EXQUISITELY SWEET – 1 GRAND SEVEN SEAS – 4 SUPER SHADOW
Another very tough race to finish the meeting and to make matter tougher for form analysts, the winning might be the very last horse (bar the emergency) listed on the 11 race card. The horse in question is the former Malaysian galloper, CONFIERO, who showed more than enough at his Singapore debut to think he wins a race like this sooner than later. The 3YO won by some nine-lengths when breaking his maiden status three starts back so obviously
goes better than most and hopefully he shows his best here. Plenty of others that can win and EXQUISITELY SWEET showed more than enough first-up over 1000m to think the spell was a good idea and 1200m looks ideal. Former Japanese galloper, GRAND SEVEN SEAS, showed plenty at his Singapore debut and he wins without surprising with SUPER SHADOW, ROYAL TUDOR, ALAN, KAISER BRIGHT, MASTER DRAGON and even
the emergency GREEN TRACER, all with winning chances.

1 GRAND SEVEN SEAS *** Showed more than enough at Singapore debut to think he wins sooner than later. 5.00
2 GREAT LIGHT * Down in grade but eased out of race last start and have to take on trust. 33
3 ROYAL TUDOR *** Did enough last start to think he is ready to show his best from gate 1. 10
4 SUPER SHADOW *** Freshened so 1200m looks ideal to turn good form into a win. 12
5 BUNGAE * Resuming sans blinkers and needs longer. 100
6 EXQUISITELY SWEET *** First-up run easily good enough to win with extra 200m in his favour. 8.00
7 HIDDEN ART * Needs to show more. 100
8 SMART VINTAGE * Former Australian who will improve over longer. 33
9 ALAN *** Knocked in an overdue win last start and pay to follow. 6.00
10 KAISER BRIGHT *** Will go forward and showed last start he is ready to win again. 6.00
11 MASTER DRAGON *** Another speedster drawn wide but still capable of giving plenty of cheek. 8.00
12 CONFIERO *** Singapore debut a beauty behind Origin Fast and that looks good enough for this. 4.00
13 GREEN TRACER *** Resuming after a frustrating good run of form and goes close with luck in running. 12

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
