Singapore Racing – Sunday

Sunday 11 October

Mighty Glory wins in Singapore on 10-07-15

Mighty Glory looks a solid each-way

With a recent winning strike rate of over 14%, it’s fair to say that the Pat Shaw yard is having a good spell.

The one-time Singapore Champion trainer – who is more famously known for his international exploits of Rocket Man – knows how to win the big races but when his stable is ticking along like this, it does pay to follow him in any grade.

And he can continue his golden run of winners late in the card on Sunday with three of his charges likely to play a big part in the jackpot or quaddie legs (races 8 through 11).

In race eight on the card Shaw will saddle the honest MIGHTY GLORY who looks a solid each-way hope in what is an open race.

The 4YO rarely runs a bad race and while winning only once from 18 career starts, a recent good trial suggests he can add to that tally.

The amicable South African has another each-way hope in LA FONTANA is race 10 on the card.

Again, the 4YO is only a one-time winner but gets his chance back on the Poly with Shaw opting frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120for a handy 2kg claimer in MM Firdaus who should get every chance from gate 4.

In the lucky last WINNING CAUSE can continue his winning run of form stepping up to the mile and the 3YO looks a horse with a bright future as he goes through the distances and grades.

Race 8

Selections; 4 IDYLLIC SCENERY – 6 MIGHTY GLORY – 3 FAST EDITION – 12 SUPER BONUS
IDYLLIC SCENERY looks well placed in KSD company to show his best after two solid outings in Singapore. The former Australian placed at his first run and had excuses with Nunes at his second and those Class 4 efforts suggests he can win in this field. MIGHTY GLORY also gets another chance for a well-earned victory. The Pat Shaw-trained 4YO has only won once from some 18 career starts but another 10 places suggests he is better than that. A recent good hit out at a trial suggests he is ready with gate 1 a bonus. Staying at the higher end of the ratings, FAST EDITION went mighty close in similar company two starts back and will give a good account of himself with T Bell on board. Of the rest, SUPER BONUS showed he can handle the turf with a nice – albeit Class 5 – win at his last start and LEADERSHIP showed enough first-up after a spell to follow.

1 ASPREY ** Will improve with each run and should appreciate company. 20
2 BASTION ** Not a mile away at Singapore debut and has had several trials since. Keep safe. 20
3 FAST EDITION *** Just missed two starts back this company and must be respected. 8.00
4 IDYLLIC SCENERY *** Not far away at two starts in Singapore and this race and company looks very suitable. 4.00
5 INCANDESCENT * Nothing last start after maiden win and have to take on trust at first start on the Turf. 20
6 MIGHTY GLORY *** Ultra consistent and recent trial suggests he can make use of the ace and win. 4.00
7 MONT BLEU * Resuming and recent trial suggests he can improve on poor race form. 50
8 RED ANT ** Starts an issue but would give this a shake if on the pace early. 20
9 COOL CAT * Hard to have on recent form and gate an issue. 100
10 DRAGON * Goes OK on the turf but best form is over longer. 33
11 LEADERSHIP *** Beaten a long way into second on resuming but the effort good enough in this field to consider. 6.00
12 SUPER BONUS *** Showed last start in Class 5 that the turf is not an issue and pay to keep safe. 6.00
13 WINNING STAR ** Versatile type who can be included in skinny end of exotics at value. 20
14 BOURNE ACADEMY ** Maiden who could improve with blinkers on first time with recent trial a pointer. 33
15 HELEN ** Query on the turf and drawn badly so have to take on trust. 12
16 HARDCORE ROCK *** Will find this a lot easier than Graduation company and pay to keep an eye on the market. 6.00

Race 9

Selections; 3 GOLD PEREGRINE – 11 SHANGHAI BUND – 8 HERO I AM – 2 LASER STORM
This race is a cracker and regardless of the result, the form from this will hold up in some good races. Case in point is the former Irish galloper, GOLD PEREGRINE. The 4YO gelding has hit the ground running in Singapore and after two wins in lower company, showed he is destined for better things with a close up second to Knight Wager. With Tim Bell from gate 6, he looks the one to beat. SHANGHAI BUND looks a beauty as well. The 4YO has had two wins and six places from just nine career starts and showed in Class 3 last start that he is more than up to this. Too many others with winning hopes to give them all a good mention but HERO I AM broke through at his fourth start in Singapore and can go on with the job on what he showed in Australia before arriving and LASER STORM’s first up effort was a beauty so he can win without surprising. Blanket over most others.

1 DUJARDIN * Appreciates first up run but have to take on trust. 50
2 LASER STORM *** First up run a beauty at odds and must go close with recent winning hoop back on. 6.00
3 GOLD PEREGRINE *** Hit the ground running in Singapore and unlucky not to make it three straight last start. Hard to beat. 3.00
4 SEED OF SPEED ** Always an each-way show in races like this and often value. 20
5 EAGLE STORM ** Honest type who will probably lead and has to be respected. 20
6 SPLICE ** Will find this tougher than Class 4 but goes too well for this jockey not to be some hope. 14
7 RUSTY BROWN ** Another at always looks an each-way hope and is often value. 20
8 HERO I AM *** Broke through last start for first Singapore win and Australian form suggest he can go on with the job. 8.00
9 MY BROTHERS KEEPER *** Resuming. Progressive type who looks well placed over 1400m first up to show his best. 8.00
10 LUCKY MISSION *** Excuses at fist up run and could give this a shake at odds. 20
11 SHANGHAI BUND *** Showed last start he is more than up to a race like this and must go close. 4.00
12 DEAUVILLE * Obviously unreliable and easier to ignore. 100

Race 10

Selections; 8 LA FONTANA – 3 TIP OF BORNEO – 4 IKING – 5 SACRED SPIN
This race has too much depth to be confident of finding an outright winner and those playing the exotics will have to go extremely wide. So value might play a big part in our selection on the night and hopefully LA FONTANA is at each-way odds. The 4YO looks a tad out of sorts at his last couple but in his favour he gets back on the Poly over his only winning trip. A claim from a nice gate won’t hurt his chances. TIP OF BORNEO is also a big show after drawing gate 1. John Powell will endeavour to lead again and like LA FONTANA, he will appreciate being back on a surface he won on just three starts ago. IKING hasn’t won since “The Oracle” wore short pants but gets his chance in what is a suitable trip and company as does his stablemate, SACRED SPIN, who can win without surprising. Of the rest, LIKA TIGER has to be respected, as does THEBUZZDOWNUNDER and keep the emergencies safe.

1 KENNEDY * Will improve with racing but may prefer maiden company. 100
2 LIKA TIGER *** A couple of recent runs over this trip in better company good enough of this. 5.00
3 TIP OF BORNEO *** In form and appreciates being back on his recent winning surface. 4.00
4 IKING *** Last win was in January but in cracking form and this race is very suitable. 7.00
5 SACRED SPIN *** Also finds himself over right trip in suitable company and hard to beat. 3.00
6 MUSCLE BEACH ** Recent trial was good but better runs have been on the turf. 10
7 THEBUZZDOWNUNDER *** Form better than it reads and looks a solid each way hope at value. 12
8 LA FONTANA *** Very much appreciates being back on the Poly and not without a chance at odds. 20
9 SUN EMPIRE ** Will find this tougher than maiden Class 5 win. 33
10 BLACK MAMBA ** In form but tested surface and trip so take on trust. 20
11 DAAD’S THE WAY ** Always pay to keep safe but has enough superannuation to retire soon. 33
12 STARPERFECT ** Form reads terribly but will be working home late at very long odds. 50
13 ALFONSO ** Not often seen on the Poly but goes OK on his day with blinkers removed for this. 20
14 SWIFT *** Drawn badly but showed last start he handles the Poly and have to respect. 12

Race 11

Selections; 2 WINNING CAUSE – 4 BRING MONEY HOME – 1 CORDOBA – 3 BOB
A tough one again to finish the weekends racing with two horses looking at hat tricks, another two or three with their hoofs on the till and an interesting Class dropper thrown in for good measure. Winning form is good form though and WINNING CAUSE can cap off what would be a good afternoon for Pat Shaw and Nooresh Juglall. The 3YO American-bred gelding took five or so (and four places) to break though for his maiden win but his subsequent Class 4 victory suggests he can go on with the job. SILENT ARROW is the other in multiple winning form and has to be respected but is up in Class. BOB and BRING MONEY HOME are both ready to win again and given the latter just missed at his last couple, he could be the testing material. CORDOBA might not have the recent form on the board but will find Class 4 to his liking and could deliver a knock out blow at odds.

1 CORDOBA *** Form reads badly but last start better than it looked and will improve lengths in Class 4. 20
2 WINNING CAUSE *** Backed up maiden victory with a very solid Class 4 win and pay to follow. 4.00
3 BOB *** Got no favours out front last start and effort to place good enough to go close here. 6.00
4 BRING MONEY HOME *** Missed by a whisker at last two runs and gets another chance here. 3.00
5 DRAGON G ** Queried ride last start and might pay to keep safe as company suits. 33
6 SMART VINTAGE ** Yet to win in Singapore but first-up run was good and this race does look his caper. 20
7 SILENT ARROW *** This is tougher again but hard to argue with recent winning run of form. 12
8 ENLIGHTEN KNIGHT ** Not a mile away last couple and could sneak into exotics calculations at odds with upgrade to blinkers. 20
9 PINT SIZED PRINCE ** Form reads only fairly but step up to the mile on turf could see a more prominent outing. 20
10 ADRENALINE ** Putting in the odd good run and should b thereabouts throughout form gate 2. 12
11 HIGHER SOUL ** Ran on well to place in similar affair last start and expect much the same. 20
12 ZIPANGU * Win two starts back was in Class 5 and may find that’s his caper. 33
13 QUETZAL ** Maiden who runs on and this trip is ideal so keep safe. 14

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
