Famous Artist looks hard to beat (pic by Singapore Turf Club)

A mixed days racing with some good races looking roses amongst the thorns that are some ordinary Class 5 and maiden affairs.

In saying that, the odd Kranji Stakes D race looks to have depth and some progressive types will head to the starter in race 10 on the card over 1200m on the Poly.

The honest KUBERA WARRIOR – who is yet to miss out on a place from seven career starts – looks very well placed in this company and with Nunes up, he should be hard to beat.

However, three last start winners in SATELLITE STAR, JELLY BEAN and HEE’S EGO will give the punters plenty of options and TOP GUN – who returned not striding last start – is worth another look as he is better than Kranji Stakes D company.

Apart from KUBERA WARRIOR, Manny Nunes looks to have a big finish to the card with strong winning chances in race 7 with FAMOUS ARTIST and race 9 with IMPERIAL MARCH.

Coincidently, both horses find themselves in BM83 company (over 1200 and 1600m respectively) and both look very hard to beat on form with the Short Course (E) – which should frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120favour on-pace runners – in their favour.

Elsewhere on the card, Nunes should have a good value option with EXCITING PROSPECT dropping to Class 5 over 1100m in race 8 and given a solid book early, the Brazilian should increase his unassailable lead in the 2015 jockeys premiership.

Race 7

Selections; 6 FAMOUS ARTIST – 2 FLAK JACKET – 1 INDIAN JADE – 5 ROOM FOR EXCUSE
FAMOUS ARTIST will be short and may well be sweet in this BM83 turf sprint. Obviously his race record of three wins and a close up second from just four career starts has him pegged as a likely type but the fact they have backed him off the map at his last three runs suggests the stable and punters think very highly of the 4YO. Nunes stays on and from gate 2 you would think they try to make every post a winner. He may be a good thing but a couple of hoses with runs on the board in good company will keep him honest. FLAK JACKET in particular looks very suited in this field and some of his efforts in very good company of late suggests he is prominent throughout. INDIAN JADE also goes better than most and it may pay to forget his last start on the Poly, as his recent turf form is very good. ROOM FOR EXCUSE and TAFFETAS keep them all honest late if the race and course suits swoopers but wouldn’t be banking on that.

1 INDIAN JADE *** Never likely last start on the Poly but big show back on the turf on form prior. 12
2 FLAK JACKET *** Has been running some very good races in good company and get this chance here. 4.00
3 LEE BANK * May appreciate the turf but have to take on trust. 100
4 TAFFETAS ** Close up effort similar affair last start but will need to be handy in running. 8.00
5 ROOM FOR EXCUSE ** Appreciates good first up run but might have work to do late. 6.00
6 FAMOUS ARTIST *** Very progressive type who looks very hard to beat with 52kg. 1.60
7 MINGS MAN * OK on his day but should need easier. 50
8 RISING EMPIRE * Form better than it reads but reassess easier company. 50

Race 8

Selections; 2 EXCITING PROSPECT – 1 EASY EASY – 3 CAIYAYA – 4 FAST JET
An odd race to say the least with most of out top selections coming into this with relatively poor form and the only last start winner, DRAGON WALK, left out of our winning calculations. But two or three Class droppers appeal and EXCITING PROSPECT looks the best placed to turn around some seemingly poor form and give a good account of himself. Nunes replacing a string of apprentice jockeys at recent runs suggests the stable is serious and the 1100m on the poly in this company looks ideal. EASY EASY is another who appreciates being back in Class 5 and given he won in this company four starts back, he must go close. Throw in CAIYAYA who had excuses dropping to Class 5 last start and would bolt in if near his best with FAST JET another that could show up with luck from an awkward gate.

1 EASY EASY *** Back in recent winning Class suggest he goes close. 5.00
2 EXCITING PROSPECT *** Another enjoys the drop to Class 5 and a suitable Poly affair. Big show. 3.00
3 CAIYAYA *** Form reads terribly but excuses last start dropping to this grade and goes close if near his best. 7.50
4 FAST JET *** Drawn awkwardly but just missed last start in a similar affair and have to respect. 5.00
5 SHUYING XIAOXIAO * Resuming and no. 100
6 HEAVENLY GIFT * Last start better but easier to ignore. 50
7 HAPPY PRINCESS * No. 100
8 DRAGON WALK ** Won off a low rating last start and no favours here from wide gate. 12
9 LUCKY COME ** Overdue for a result for the support but will be closing late. 6.00
10 I-SCREAM NOW * Not a mile away last start but easier to ignore as a rule. 50
11 LUCKY TWENTY THREE * Resuming and prefer others. 100
12 STREET RUFFIAN ** Solid last two runs similar affairs and have to include in exotics. 10
13 HOW HUGE ** Form reads terribly but sneaks into Class 5 and should improve at long odds. 50
14 JUST DUIT * No. 100

Race 9

Selections; 4 IMPERIAL MARCH – 5 MIGHTY WARRIOR – 2 ORDER OF THE SUN – 3 WAR TIME
Some very progressive stayer/milers head to the start in what shapes as one of the best races on the card. One such horse is the former Argentinean entire, IMPERIAL MARCH, who has started off his Singapore career in fine fashion. Two wins and an unlucky second placing from four starts at Kranji suggests he enjoys the environment and from gate 2 with Nunes up, he might very hard to pass late. MIGHTY WARRIOR is another that looks destined for Open company after three wins and four placings from only seven career starts. That record suggests he is honest as well as very good and he improves on a first-up run that showed he has enjoyed the break. For value, ORDER OF THE SUN could be a good option. The former Australian led them up in the Derby and while he will be better over longer than this, he could go forward again with winkers added and in this a long way. WAR TIME is another that can win without surprising second up after a bleeding attack.

1 DUJARDIN * Resuming after a shocker back in April and may need the run. 33
2 ORDER OF THE SUN *** Lead them up in the Derby and that effort suggests he is ready to show his best with winker added today. 6.00
3 WAR TIME *** Appreciates blinkers back on and first up run and has to be seriously considered. 8.00
4 IMPERIAL MARCH *** Backed up excellent turf run with a solid Poly win and looks the testing material here. 2.50
5 MIGHTY WARRIOR *** Very progressive stayer who looks well placed to continue his excellent run of form. 4.00
6 FORTUNE WINNER ** Hard to fault form but a big step up from Class 4 company. 7.50
7 JUSTICE WORLD ** Better than he showed last start but exotics may be best in this field. 20
8 GOLD HILL ** Will be running on late if race run to suit. 20
9 CORDOBA * Hard to have on form but should appreciate the turf. 100
10 DRAGON G * Needs easier. 50
11 HEE’S FORTE * Progressive and has no weight but this looks a tough ask. 20

Race 10

Selections; 4 KUBERA WARRIOR – 1 SATELLITE STAR – 5 TOP GUN – 3 JELLY BEAN
Not a bad field for a Kranji Stakes D with a lot of up and coming horses well worth following through the grades. One such horse in the honest KUBERA WARRIOR who is yet to miss a place from seven career starts. The 3YO has only won once, which will be of some concern to favourite backers, but given a few of those efforts were in Super One company, he should be better than KSD. Add Nunes from gate 1 and he gets his chance to knock in win number 2. The gate does look a factor given three horses that look in the winning mix – SATELLITE STAR, MIGHTY GLORY and JELLY BEAN – have drawn gates 9, 13 and 14 respectively. SATELLITE STAR and JELLY BEAN come off nice enough maiden wins and must be respected and hard to fault MIGHTY GLORY’s honest form. One other to watch at hopefully value may be TOP GUN who had excuses last start – returned not striding – and does look to have ability.

1 SATELLITE STAR *** Won well with support when blinkers were added last start and looks well placed here. 5.00
2 MIGHTY GLORY *** Blinkers back on dropping back to 1200m and too honest not to leave out. 10
3 JELLY BEAN *** Drawn badly but hard to fault form and expect bold run with 4kg claim. 6.00
4 KUBERA WARRIOR *** Honest 3YO who is better than KSD company and hard to beat from gate 1 with Nunes up. 2.50
5 TOP GUN *** Returned not striding when resuming in similar affair but can win if right. 12
6 HEE’S EGO ** Broke overdue maiden status last start and will keep a few honest. 12
7 HONGCHEN ** Not the type to win out of turn bit yet another who plays a part in this finish. 12
8 CAPTAIN MCCAW ** Turned around some average form to place last start and pay to keep safe on that effort. 16
9 REAL HERO ** Enjoys the Poly and drawn to advantage but might need easier to win. 33
10 MR PATRON ** Not far away three back over this trip/company but exotics look best. 20
11 CHEETAH KING * Struggles on the Poly. 50
12 GREAT BALLS OFFIRE * Query the surface and may be looking for easier. 50
13 ONE UNITED * Needs easier. 33
14 D’DON * Needs easier and shorter. 100

Race 11

Selections; 11 MORITZ ECLIPSE – 4 SECRET WEAPON – 3 LIM’S SPRINT – 2 ZULULAND
Rare to have a Novice event this late in the day and even rarer that one of the runners – ZULULAND – is nudging $1 million in prizemoney and won’t start favourite. But to be fair, the former top Australian juvenile – who has obviously been disappointing since his Group 2YO win – has had his prizemoney exaggerated by a placing in the $3 million China Horse Club Cup. He is in well at the race conditions here so gets a mention in the top four but also well weighted is the 3YO MORITZ ECLPISE who won well at his race debut. With just 50kg at the Novice conditions he must go close and in his favour is that he should race on the pace throughout. SECRET WEAPON keeps him honest though. With winkers added for this, SECRET WEAPON looks a horse with a future an this race suitable to show his best. LIM’S SPRINT from the ace and the in form COTE DE NUITS two others that can win without surprising.

1 COTE DE NUITS *** Hard to fault recent form and in this a very long way. 5.00
2 ZULULAND *** Resuming after showing glimpses at first Singapore preparation and has to be considered at the race conditions. 7.00
3 LIM’S SPRINT *** Backed up maiden win with two good runs and pay to follow. 6.00
4 SECRET WEAPON *** Promising type who will go well again with winkers added for this. 4.00
5 KIRKUS ** Excuses last start and will be working into this late. 10
6 ROSEGOLD ** Not in great at the race conditions but looks on the improve. 33
7 STAR BEAUTY * Maiden and no well weighted but will work into this late. 50
8 ASTAIRE * Not suited. 200
9 SATCHMO * Not a mile away last start at similar conditions but should need easier. 20
10 YU LONG GLORIOUS * No. 200
11 MORITZ ECLIPSE *** 3YO in super at the race conditions and looks some hope after good debut win. 3.00
