Sunday 6 December

Lim’s Rally is in spanking form and should be hard to beat (Pic by Singapore Turf Club)

As we count down to the end of the 2015 season and the last feature of the year – the Colonial Chief Stakes on December 13 – Sunday’s card is not a strong one although a very nice Class 3 Poly sprint (race 9) will keep us interested.

LIM’S RALLY heads the rating and the weights and given what he has showed at his two runs this campaign, the 4YO could be destined for better races than this and should be hard to beat.

In saying that, most of his recent good form has been on the turf and although having one Poly win to his name earlier this year, he will need to show his best on the all-weather track.

As you would expect the field has depth and BRAHMA CIRCUS will keep him honest while GOLDEN frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120CURL will be the one he will have to hold out late.

Elsewhere on the card, the combination of Shane Baertschiger and John Powell will be looking to finish off the year on a very positive note with LIGN EM UP looking ready to turn some good form into a win in race 7 and FEDERER a big show for back-to-back wins in the lucky last.

Race 7

Selections; 1 LIGN EM UP – 3 CAIRO – 5 STARSKY – 11 GET GOING
A very top heavy Class 4 over 1100m with only two horses that look like winning on paper. LIGN EM UP has been runner up at both outings since resuming and that form will hold up here. The trip suits and he will benefit from the senior rider both of which suggests he is the one to beat. CAIRO is in good form though and the 3YO has placed at both poly outings. Joseph See and a 2kg claim should have him handy throughout and he looks the main threat. MASTER DRAGON resuming will set the pace although he has been getting found out late while STARSKY could show up from the good gate in this weak field. Of the rest, the Werribee 1100m winner ZIPPY GENERAL could improve and GET GOING may make his presence felt, while winning form – albeit in Class 5 – might be good form for LIM’S CASINO.

1 LIGN EM UP *** Runner up at both outings since resuming. 1100m suits and will benefit from senior rider. 3.00
2 LIM’S BATTLE * Found them too sharp over 1200m last start and 1100m is likely to be the same. 16
3 CAIRO *** In very good form, placed at both poly outings and should be handy throughout. 3.00
4 MASTER DRAGON * Resuming. Has plenty of speed but has been getting found out late. 50
5 STARSKY ** Disappointed on turf after Maiden poly win. Could show up from the good gate. 6.00
6 ZIPPY GENERAL * Placed on turf two starts back and win in Australia was this trip but prefer others. 16
7 RISING EMPIRE * Struggling in weaker company and needs to improve. 20
8 KENNEDY * Maiden whose recent form is poor. 50
9 HUMOR TOWN * Recent form poor and best form is over longer. 33
10 LIM’S CASINO ** Won over this trip in Class 5 last outing but will find this harder. 7.00
11 GET GOING ** Fought on in Novice company last start but yet to place on poly in four tries. Could show up. 12

Race 8

Selections; 2 I-SCREAM NOW – 3 AFTERNOON DELIGHT – 5 CASSIS OOLONG – 7 TOOBIGTOFAIL
As you would expect in a Class 5 Division 2, the field is weak and a few horses in form get their chance to pick up a sizeable cheque. I SCREAM-NOW took an age to break his maiden status but that win two starts back and his subsequent good run has him winning again very soon. Kif Toh from gate 1 looks a bonus and he should be very prominent throughout. Connections of AFTERNOON DELIGHT would also be looking at this field to think they can knock in what would be his fifth career win. Blinkers go off and Da Silva from gate 3 looks a good combination. Not many others to get excited about but CASSIS OOLONG is always a show in these weak Class 5 Poly sprints and TOOBIGTOOFAIL is getting closer to his maiden win although a wide gate makes his assignment tougher. FAT FARRAND and perhaps TIME AFTER TIME two to include in exotics.

1 FAT FARRAND ** Late Farrand. Recent trial good enough to show up in this weak field. 10
2 I-SCREAM NOW *** Backed up overdue maiden win with a good effort and must go close here with claim from gate 1. 3.00
3 AFTERNOON DELIGHT *** Moody mare suited in this grade. Has won twice at this distance on the poly and could show up with blinkers back off. 4.00
4 TIME AFTER TIME ** Dropping back in trip. Only win was at this distance and could show up. 12
5 CASSIS OOLONG *** Disappointing with support last start but always a hope in weak races like this. 8.00
6 RAINBOW STAR * Easier to ignore. 33
7 TOOBIGTOFAIL *** Maiden status and wide gate a concern but looks like he will win a race like this soon. 6.00
8 ROYAL FLUSH * Fold. 200
9 LAM EDITION ** Improved effort last start but have to take on trust. 12
10 KTRONIC * Reassess over longer. 33
11 LIVE WELL * Struggled at his last couple and have to take on trust. 20
12 BIG BANG KING * For looks hopeless but recent trial was OK so can include in exotics at odds. 33
13 PRINCETON * May lead, should fade. 50

Race 9

Selections; 1 LIM’S RALLY – 7 BRAHMA CIRCUS – 2 GOLDEN CURL – 8 HADES
Easily the best race on the card and enough horses in form to think it should be a very good punting affair. The top-weight LIM’S RALLY looks hardest to beat following two very good runs this campaign. The 4YO hasn’t been on the Poly for a while but does have one win earlier in career on the all-weather and hopefully can add another with KB Soo up from gate 2. Not many horses more honest than BRAHMA CIRCUS though and he also looks extremely well placed to add another win to his CV. The Poly definitely holds no fears and while drawn awkwardly in 11, he looks the benchmark. GOLDEN CURL is one of two last start winners in this race and with a solid clip expected throughout, expect the 7YO to come into his own late and can win again. The other last start winner is HADES and like BRAHMA CIRCUS, is as honest as the day is long so has to be considered.

1 LIM’S RALLY *** In spanking form this campaign and has had a win on the Poly. Big show. 3.00
2 GOLDEN CURL *** Coming off a very nice win and will be motoring late dropping back to 1200m. 4.00
3 CASTOR ** Goes too well when right to ignore but recent run of form a worry. 20
4 NOVA WARRIOR ** Might pay to ignore last start when keen early and take on excellent Poly form. 8.00
5 CORONET PEAK ** Better than what he showed last start and can include in exotics at value. 20
6 SPRING THUNDER * Changed stables again and prefer others. 33
7 BRAHMA CIRCUS *** Freshened and looks extremely well placed on the Poly in this company. Can win. 4.00
8 HADES ** Up in grade but too honest not to think he is up to the task. 10
9 VERTICAL START ** Gets blinkers back in trip and recent win was over 1200m so keep safe. 20
10 RUSTY BROWN ** Not often seen on the Poly but honest enough to include in skinny end of exotics with headgear removed. 33
11 LIVELY DRAGON * Struggled at his last couple and may be looking for something easier. 33

Race 10

Selections; 6 POWER LIN – 1 MORALES – 3 SAVAGE STORM – 11 SOON YI
The tempo of this race looks extremely important given most of the winning hopes will be doing best work late. The most obvious of the swoopers are SOON YI, LUCKY STRATEGY and DUTY FREE and they should all play a part late. And while DUTY FREE and LUCKY STRATEGY are both coming off last start placings, SOON YI is coming off a run where he had plenty of excuses so he could be the value of the trio and a good each-way option. Plenty of others that play a part though and POWER LIN looks due. The 5YO has only one career win from some 19 starts to his name but he had excuses last start and must go close here with any luck in running. MORALES also had excuses last start and can win this without surprising while SAVAGE STORM, MY REACH and even the second emergency, KATAGAS, all have claims.

1 MORALES *** Excuses not to finish in the mix when resuming in Novice company and maiden win was on the Poly. Big show. 8.00
2 MY REACH *** Drawn badly but broke maiden status in fine style last start and will handle this company. 6.00
3 SAVAGE STORM *** Never got involved after a slow start last time out and more than up to this type of race. 6.00
4 EXQUISITELY SWEET * Appreciates company but would like to see support on recent poor form. 33
5 LUCKY STRATEGY *** Wide gate not an issue as will get back and motor home. Each-way. 8.00
6 POWER LIN *** Excuses last start and recent form suggests he wins one of these sooner than later. 5.00
7 BIG MAN ** Not far away when resuming but query on the Poly. 20
8 MIGHTY KENNY ** Blinkers go on after a couple of just fair efforts and recent trial suggests he improves. 13
9 SCIENCE FICTION ** In solid form and a must for exotics. 10
10 DUTY FREE *** Showed last start why he is always a show if race run to suit swoopers. 8.00
11 SOON YI *** Never got a look in the straight last start and happy to think he plays a big part late in this. 20
12 A LOT IN HAND ** Up in grade after maiden win in Class 5 and exotics look best. 12
13 HIKO YUNIKON ** Always an each-way show on the Poly. 12
14 KATAGAS *** Promising maiden who will win a race like this sooner than later. 5.00

Race 11

Selections; 1 FEDERER – 6 CACTUS JACK – 2 MR WHITAKER – 9 ABOVE THE SKYLINE
I think it’s safe to say that connections of FEDERER would take gate 7 any day of the week as the 4YO jumps from double-digit gates more often than not. He did overcome a wide alley to win in this company last start and no reason to jump off him with John Powell staying on board. CACTUS JACK looks up to this company after finishing not far away with support last start and given he improves with race experience, he could win this without surprising. Of the rest, ABOVE THE SKYLINE is honest and ran well on this surface last start after breaking his maiden status two back while MR WHITAKER is probably the benchmark in Class 4 Poly sprints and will win one of these sooner than later. The race has depth though so go wide in exotics.

1 FEDERER *** Got the job done from a wide gate last start and can win again. 4.00
2 MR WHITAKER *** Disappointing last start but always a winning show in this type of race. 5.00
3 AMAZEALOT ** For looks hopeless but should very much appreciate being back on the Poly. 50
4 MAPLE STAR ** Starting to find some form and gets his chance from gate 1. 10
5 WAKINO NEXUS ** Improving with each run and should appreciate the Poly. 8.00
6 CACTUS JACK *** Not a mile away with support in this company last start and can follow. 6.00
7 CONSTANCE’S SPIRIT ** Might pay to ignore a few poor runs of late as the Poly and 1200m looks his caper. 12
8 WHITE COFFEE * Excuses last start in similar affair but hard to have on recent form. 33
9 ABOVE THE SKYLINE *** Honest and showed last start that 1200m on the Poly suits. Goes close. 8.00
10 LIKA TIGER ** Been supported of late and has threatened. Keep safe. 12
11 HEE’S EGO ** Not far away last start in similar affair and a must for exotics. 12
12 HIGHLIGHT * Never likely last start but might need easier. 33

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
