November already! With one eye on the Spring Carnival in Melbourne – and more specifically ATMOSPHERE in the Derby for Singapore connections – racing at Kranji gears up for the Singapore Gold Cup on November 16.

But while Sunday’s card has no features on offer, there are some very nice types going around and more importantly, some good punting races. Case in point is the small but elite OB83 field (race 8) that sees the likes of SOUTHERN BOSS, SAND LANE and PEACE NO WAR show why they are some of the best Poly sprinters in Singapore.

You could make a strong case for all three and no doubt punters will make this a keen punting affair given it’s only a six horse field. SOUTHERN BOSS keeps his 3kg claimer in Joseph See and remains in the form that will have him hard to pass late with gate 3 a factor. SAND LANE and likely favourite PEACE NO WAR, have drawn gates 4 and 5 respectively and the order going into the bend will be crucial.

Adding to the speed battle – and indeed the final result – is GOT LUCK who resumes from gate 2 and given the cracking speed expected, don’t discount GATO NEGRO who will be the value. A great race but don’t blink as the 1000m dash will be over in a flash.

The good racing continues in race 9 on the card where EXCEED EXPRESS and HIMALAYA DRAGON go head-to-head in a KSC over 1200m on the Poly. Both are in rattling form and will certainly go through the grades and again, a betting frenzy is likely with not much separating the two. The race has depth though and a horse like BLUE SWEDE might cause a minor upset if the race is run to suit swoopers as he will appreciate resuming back in suitable company after two runs at 3YO Group level.

Best Bets; (WAR LORD race 11, win), (PEREGRINE FALCON race 10, each-way) and (BLUE SWEDE race 9, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1, 3 and 4), race 9 (4, 5 and 9), race 10 (1, 5 and 6), race 11 (1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9).

Race 8

Selections; 1 SOUTHERN BOSS – 4 PEACE NO WAR – 3 SAND LANE – 2 GOT LUCK
A BM83 over 1000m with only a small field yet little between the top four chances, all of whom like to go forward. SOUTHERN BOSS is drawn the inside of the speedsters and he could get the gun run throughout; he is up in weight but with the claim will only carry 55kg and should handle that. PEACE NO WAR has been getting run down over 1100m; the 1000m will suit but he will need to conserve some energy early. SAND LANE goes very fast and may try to burn them off. GOT LUCK is resuming after along injury break, if right he is well up to this level, watch for support. The other pair are nuisance value.

1 SOUTHERN BOSS *** In good form and despite 3.5kg weight rise will give a bold sight once again. 3.00
2 GOT LUCK ** Very smart sprinter resuming after a long break. Has an excellent polytrack record and if right will be hard to beat. 4.00
3 SAND LANE *** Likes this trip and will be on the speed all the way. 3.50
4 PEACE NO WAR *** Run down at past two outings. Better suited here. 3.00
5 GATO NEGRO ** Has speed and can be nuisance value in this. 20
6 TOUCH OF GOLD * These will go too fast. 20

Race 9

Selections; 5 HIMALAYA DRAGON – 4 EXCEED EXPRESS – 9 BLUE SWEDE – 8 GOOD NEWS
An open KSC over 1200m on the poly with a couple of promising ones involved. HIMALAYA DRAGON is up in grade but drops 0.5 kg over his winning distance and is very well drawn. The other improver, EXCEED EXPRESS, gets the same weight as last time but has to go 100m further from a wide gate. They should be prominent throughout and if they are vulnerable GOOD NEWS who is going great guns with blinkers applied, will be the one to cut them down. Or the promising BLUE SWEDE who is resuming and his trials have indicated a good performance fresh – watch for support. Amongst the more proven performers SICHUAN RULER has won six times at 1200m and is always a threat and obviously FLYING ZERO is in good form.

1 FLYING ZERO *** Goes well on poly but has plenty of weight and is up in grade. 10
2 SICHUAN RULER *** Goes well this grade, trip and surface. Should be in the finish. 10
3 CONGO ZANDOR * Recent form not good enough. 25
4 EXCEED EXPRESS *** Fast sprinter up in grade with same weight and traveling 100m further from an awkward gate. Will give a bold sight. 4.50
5 HIMALAYA DRAGON *** Up in grade but drops 0.5kg over winning distance and has a good gate. Hard to beat. 4.00
6 JEFFERSON BAY * Formerly Encosta Diablo. Useful but even with name change this looks too hard. 16
7 APPRECIATION ** Disappointed last outing but more than competitive on best form. 25
8 GOOD NEWS *** Going great guns since blinkers were applied. Will be closing late. 5.50
9 BLUE SWEDE *** Tongue tie off. Resuming. Trials have been good and can sprint well fresh. Watch for support. 6.00
10 DASHFUL * Malaysian sprinter resuming. Has some ability. Watch for support. 20
11 DOUBLE CASH * Often thereabouts but easier and shorter his caper. 16
12 LIVE IN HOPE * This is too hard. 50

Race 10

Selections; 1 PEREGRINE FALCON – 5 MYSTICAL DIAMOND – 6 SEA OF LOVE – 12 GOLDEN ROSEWOOD
An extremely ordinary Class 5 over 1600m on the turf will be a test for punters. PEREGRINE FALCON failed at all four starts at a mile but that was before he discovered blinkers. Since the head-gear went on his performances have improved dramatically and he should be hard to beat. MYSTICAL DIAMOND remains a maiden but has been placed at three of his four attempts at a mile. The rest are unreliable, unpredictable or worse. The Laxon mares OCTIVIA and SEA OF LOVE have been disappointments but this race may be weak enough. If there were a surprise it could be GOLDEN ROSEWOOD, he has been a total failure in 29 starts in Singapore the vast majority of which have been on the polytrack, in Australia he was a winner at Bendigo over a mile and has never been tried at that trip in Singapore on turf until now.

1 PEREGRINE FALCON *** Has improved with winkers. Previously failed at the mile but that was before the gear change. Should race well. 3.50
2 SHENZHOU ONE * Done nothing in eight starts. 33
3 OCTIVIA ** Drops back to a mile. Sometimes thereabouts but has yet to place in 12 starts. 6.00
4 LAM EDITION ** Excuses last start and could sneak a place at odds. 33
5 MYSTICAL DIAMOND *** Maiden, but has been placed at three of four attempts at the distance and excuses not to finish closer last start. Should race well. 3.50
6 SEA OF LOVE *** Maiden who has been failing over longer. Better suited at this trip and gate 1 wont hurt. 6.00
7 JUSEAGLEYE * Has been ordinary at all 13 outings. 50
8 FANTASTIC WARRIOR * Form reads badly but not a mile away last start and mile might suit. 50
9 KTRONIC ** Having a rare turf run. Has placed only once in 10 attempts but this is a weak field. 12
10 CHENGDU WARRIOR ** Unable to complete course last start and eased down. Only two wins have been at this trip. 16
11 EISHIN BRIGHT * Placed twice in 21 starts both being on the poly. Well beaten at recent turf outings. 20
12 GOLDEN ROSEWOOD ** Hasn’t won in 29 starts since arriving in Singapore. Won at Bendigo over this trip 3 years ago. Having 5th start for Sam Chua and could improve. 10

Race 11

Selections; 2 WAR LORD – 5 ANY RUMOUR – 1 GOLD LINE – 7 DYLAN
A good Class 4 over 1400m closes the programme. WAR LORD is aiming at a hat-trick and should race well again. In fact his two wins in KSD company since blinkers went on have been impressive and he could be hard to beat. As always in these affairs, Cliff Brown has a couple of strong chances. ANY RUMOUR is resuming, he is very smart when right, his trials have been encouraging and Corey Brown should give him every chance from the gate. The stable mate JUST NAME IT is a frustrating maiden who runs on and while this looks tough, Alan Munro should give him every chance. GOLD LINE is very consistent at this level, DYLAN got too far back last start; with a more positive ride he could get in the finish. SCIENCE FICTION also shows promise but has struck a strong race.

1 GOLD LINE *** Won once and placed five times from eight attempts at this distance. Consistent and should be in the finish once again. 4.00
2 WAR LORD *** Up in grade for heading for a hat-trick at this distance. Should race well again. 4.00
3 SCIENCE FICTION *** Broke through in Initiation at this trip last start. Up in grade and has struck a good field. 6.00
4 LADIES FIRST * Resuming. These look too good. 33
5 ANY RUMOUR *** Resuming. Has plenty of ability and trials well. This is a good field but could show up. 6.00
6 FABER HEIGHTS * Well beaten in lower grade last start and this looks too hard. 33
7 DYLAN *** Got too far back and was disappointing last start. Could improve and get in the finish. 5.00
8 FAT BOBO * Done nothing since resuming. 33
9 JUST NAME IT *** Maiden who runs on but is yet to break through. 6.50
10 POWERFUL FIGHTER * Yet to place on turf in seven outings. 50
