Singapore Racing – Sunday

Sunday 16 March

Ronnie Brown wins in Singapore 17-03-13

Ronnie Brown (Joao Moreira) heads towards his fourth win at Kranji, picture Singapore Turf Club

Any punter worth his salt will tell you Sunday at Kranji looks a very tough day. So while winners will be found – with one eye on the tote for stable support, it may be case of watching some some good races and nice horses with value on the agenda. One such race and one such horse is the Open Benchmark 83 sprint (race 9) and the selfproclaimed “People’s Champion”, RONNIE BROWN. The Darci Brahma 4YO looks to be in just fair form of late but given this company looks suitable and the surface and trip also looks his caper, a big run – hopefully at value – is on the cards. But like most races on the night, finding the winner looks tough and you could make a case for most others in the race from SICHUAN RULER at the top of the weights to HYPERNOVA who carries just 50kg. Good luck.

Race 8

Selections; 5 BLACK BEAN – 10 FOREIGN EXCHANGE – 11 ROMA – 3 VITALICO
A Class 5 race for the Claiming riders over 1600m is always a raffle. SUPER STAR has no recent form but he loves to lead and has Zaki a noted rider of front-runners on top so he could be hard to catch. TH Koh also likes to go forward and he is on the long term maiden mare ROMA who has been showing some encouraging form lately. BLACK BEAN will also be up the front and Harry Kasim should give him every chance. Rueven got FOREIGN EXCHANGE home two starts back and he ran on from well back last start; he should be closing late. Other chances include old VITALICO and stablemate, the maiden READY FORTUNE. The newly returned Mark Ewe will be hoping for some luck with VOY. Tickets please!

1 MOOVA CASH * Trialed recently. Remains a maiden but has been placed several times on the poly. Failed at only attempt at a mile. 20
2 READY FORTUNE ** Maiden who battles away. Suited at the mile but poorly drawn. 12
3 VITALICO *** Veteran who gets back into Class 5 and over a suitable distance. Should race well. 5.00
4 ABYSS *** Blinkers off. Won one of these three starts back without headgear. Should race well again. 6.00
5 BLACK BEAN *** Likes to get on the speed and will be there for a long way. 10
6 LUCKY STRATEGY ** Blinkers off. Maiden who is usually thereabouts. On trial at the mile. 12
7 VOY ** Still a maiden but plods away. Gives Mark Ewe a chance of a comeback win. 12
8 SPIN FIRE ** Blinkers helped him put in his best effort last start. Chance if he can repeat. 20
9 SUPER STAR ** Form reads poorly but likes to lead and has Zaki. Will go forward and may be hard to catch. 12
10 FOREIGN EXCHANGE *** Won two starts back and ran on from a long way back last outing. Goes well for Rueven and should be in the finish. 5.00
11 ROMA *** Long term maiden mare whose last two runs have been good. Will go forward and gets a chance here. 5.50
12 STYLISH LAD * Form ordinary. 50
13 BUZET *** Mile suits and should be running on late. 12
14 A’S VICTORIOUS * Will be on the speed but lacks stamina. 33

Race 9

Selections; 7 RONNIE BROWN – 1 SICHUAN RULER – 8 HYPERNOVA – 4 PEACEFUL WARRIOR
A very good BM83 over 1100m with a huge number of chances. Two that trailed very well of late include RONNIE BROWN and SICHUAN RULER and given both had excuses or raced in better company last start, they may show up here. We also like the fact they both have inside draws. Of the others, GOT LUCK is a speedy customer, he had a tough run last outing but still battled on well; with Dan Beasley up he could set the pace and be hard to run down. HYPERNOVA resumed with a strong win in Class 3 over 1000m, he has no weight and from his good alley should be close up all the way. Shane Baertschiger has a pair of good honest sprinters in the above mentioned SICHUAN RULER and BAHEN engaged and they will both be competitive. GOLDEN SAND STEED gets back into a more suitable event, the 1100m suits and he will be closing late. PEACEFUL WARRIOR never runs a bad race and SUPER KENNY is an consistent and courageous competitor. Tough race.

1 SICHUAN RULER *** Versatile sprinter who is well suited this trip and will appreciate the claim. Big show. 4.50
2 GOLDEN SAND STEED *** Resuming. Found KSB over 1200m too hot last start. Better suited this trip and will be closing late. 4.50
3 BAHEN *** Will enjoy being back on polytrack. Won KSB over 1200m four starts back. 10
4 PEACEFUL WARRIOR *** Resuming. Has not missed top four at past 11 starts and will race well again. 10
5 GOT LUCK *** Trapped wide and fought on last start. Has plenty of speed and will give them something to chase. 4.00
6 SUPER KENNY ** Won Class 3 at last outing. This is harder but will put in an honest effort. 8.00
7 RONNIE BROWN *** Appreciates company and a win would not surprise. 25
8 HYPERNOVA *** Strong first up win over 1000m in Class 3 last outing. This is harder but has no weight and loves the poly. Will be handy all the way. 4.50
9 BENJI’S EMPIRE * Not suited. 50

Race 10

Selections; 2 D’ARTAGNAN – 8 BEAUTY HARMONY – 3 FLYING MISSION – 4 GREEN TRACER
Another tricky race, a Kranji Stakes D over 1200m. D’ARTAGNAN broke through last start, and although this is harder, he gets a claim for Noh Senari and despite the wide draw should make his presence felt. BEAUTY HARMONY was not far away in a Class 4 last start, he should be handy and finish on well; Munro from gate 3 looks a good combination. The blinkers go on FLYING MISSION, he has been a little disappointing since his Maiden win but this is easier than recent encounters and with Manoel Nunes up he should be handy all the way. GREEN TRACER was ridden forward last start and boxed on well for fourth; he can find trouble but if John Powell can give him a trouble free run he will be hard to hold out. CLERMONT CLUB has been freshened and whilst he may like longer could sprint well. SACRED CITY is on the quick back-up his last run was encouraging and he could show up.

1 CLERMONT CLUB ** Won maiden over a mile. Dropping back in distance but has been freshened and could race well. 8.00
2 D’ARTAGNAN *** Broke through last start and shown he is well and truly up to this company. 8.00
3 FLYING MISSION *** Blinkers on. Has disappointed since maiden win but has the ace and Nunes. This is easier than recent outings and should be hard to beat. 3.50
4 GREEN TRACER *** Was ridden forward last start and fought on well. Can find trouble but should be charging late. 5.00
5 SACRED CITY *** Battled on well last start and placed over 1100m in Class 4 three starts back. Well drawn and should race well. 5.00
6 TAVAN BOGD ** Form poor since returning from Malaysia. Having second start for Leticia Dragon stable and recent trial OK. 50
7 DRAGON NINETYNINE ** Last win was this class and distance four starts back. Could show up. 14
8 BEAUTY HARMONY *** Ran 4th at only poly run over 1200m in Class 4. Not far away last start and should race well again. 12
9 KISS ME ** Had three runs since resuming and been thereabouts. Chance again. 12
10 GREENBACK * Suited this grade but best efforts have been on turf. 20
11 STREET RUFFIAN * Won a weak Class 5 last outing. This is harder. 33
12 HUMOR TOWN * Runs on but may want easier. 33

Race 11

Selections; 5 CASH ADVANCE – 9 USAIN COLT – 7 SHIN GOONG – 2 APPRECIATION
A Class 4 for the flyers over 1000m closes the programme and we get to see the regally-bred USAIN COLT once again. He won well on debut but this is much harder and he has an awkward alley. In addition, the field contains the speedy CASH ADVANCE who is also resuming. Interestingly, both horses beat WASHINGTON BAY into second in their maiden. More interesting is the fact CASH ADVANCE ran second to ITALIAN JOB and that form should hold up. SHIN GOONG is also resuming after a long break, his trials have been good and despite the wide Nathan Berry should have him forward for a long way. The blinkers go on NEUTRINOS and he too is a speedster. All of this could suit APPRECIATION who looked very good at his last outing; he may just be able to sit off the pace and finish off best. The hot speed could also suit SOON YI and EXQUISITELY SWEET.

1 EXQUISITELY SWEET ** Runs on strongly but this looks too short. 14
2 APPRECIATION *** Jumped awkwardly but went through to lead and win well last start. This is harder but from the good draw should race well again. 5.00
3 DOUBLE CASH *** Resuming. Trialing well and could race well fresh. 5.00
4 ANODOUBT * Unplaced at only 4 starts 33
5 CASH ADVANCE *** Tongue tie on. Resuming after showing plenty at first preparation. Trialing well and should race well fresh. 4.00
6 NATURAL NINE * Fair effort on Singapore debut. May want longer. 33
7 SHIN GOONG *** Resuming after a long break. Trialing well. Draw does not help but smart when right and could give a sight. 6.00
8 NEUTRINOS ** Blinkers on. Broke through last start. Has speed and distance suits but this is much tougher. 10
9 USAIN COLT *** Promising well-bred horse who debuted well. This is much harder and wide draw does not help. 8.50
10 GAZOO * Has disappointed since maiden win and this is a very strong field. 33
11 SOON YI ** Ran on strongly late to win last start. This is harder but could show up. 12
12 WAIRAKEI * Honest but will find this too hard. 50
13 FAT KIDDY * Maiden who runs on. This will be too short. 100
