Singapore Racing – Sunday

Sunday 2 March

Holy Warrior lead in after a win on 11 February 2014

Newcomer Holy Warrior being led in by Lucky Stable’s representative Richard See

The Lucky Stable in Singapore has been relatively quiet in recent years but a horse like HOLY WARRIOR might turn back the clock and get the famous colours back in the Group winners circle at Kranji.

True, the Holy Roman Emperor 4YO has a way to go before he gets to that level but given his record from France and England and his excellent first-up win in Singapore, he looks a genuine Derby contender. A Benchmark Mark 83 over the mile (race 9) looks perfect second-up and it might be a case of onwards and upwards over more ground in the future.

The good racing doesn’t stop there and GOT LUCK looks to have found a very winnable race (11) on the bumper 12 race card. The Danroad 4YO has won five from eight career starts – four of those wins on the Poly – and he might be just too good for most, if not all, in this KSC Poly sprint. While he could be a good thing, he has drawn wide and horses like SUPERB SUCCESS with eight Poly wins under his belt and ONE SMART CAT with five obviously go very well on this surface and keep the likely favourite in GOT LUCK honest.

Race 8

Selections; 2 SPLICE – 7 RISE ‘N’ SHINE – 1 RUSTY BROWN – 6 MIA
While punters might jump on the likes of debut winner RISE ‘N’ SHINE and the top-weight, RUSTY BROWN, the race has plenty more to offer and value might be something to look for. As it stands though, RISE ‘N’ SHINE was impressive winning on debut and looks a horse to follow. The 3YO got back from an awkward gate on that occasion so his effort to win comfortably was certainly good enough for Class 4. RUSTY BROWN will also get plenty of support – he usually does – and he showed last start he is better than most in this Class on a good turf track. SPILCE might be that value we are looking for and certainly showed enough last start to win this. The tongue-tie goes on but it is the step-up to 1400m that has him well and truly under notice. Of the rest, MIA will run a very cheeky race and could get some cheap sectionals if left alone with SPYDER, KATE’S KEEPER and the bottom-weight, DANNY, all some show.

1 RUSTY BROWN *** Likes a good track and showed last start he is more than up to winning a race like this. 4.00
2 SPLICE *** Tongue-Tie on. Coming off a big effort with step up to 1400m ideal. 5.00
3 SPYDER *** Looks due and right in this finish with luck in running. 8.00
4 KATE’S KEEPER *** Wide throughout last start so effort good and pay to follow eachway. 11
5 ACOUSTIC ** Handicap conditions and 1400m suggests improvement. 12
6 MIA *** Plenty of toe and could be in this a very long way. 6.00
7 RISE ‘N’ SHINE *** Impressed winning at Singapore debut and pay to follow. 5.00
8 PALOMBARO ** Nothing last start but effort two back on turf and nice recent trial has him under notice at value. 33
9 KAISER BRIGHT ** Can make excuses but bottom line is average recent form. 20
10 MARATHON LAD * No. 100
11 GOLDEN DRAGON * Like to see something before we consider this company. 100
12 DANNY *** Always a show late and worth an each-look. 12

.

Race 9

Selections; 6 FISCAL WINGS – 9 PROSPERITY STAR – 2 RON – 3 STAR RAINBOW
Tough race for punters with some Class droppers looking ready to improve and some maidens who look ready to open their respective winning accounts. Horses back in a winnable grade are RON and STAR RAINBOW who both improve lengths back in Class 5. STAR RAINBOW had excuses last start and his form prior is KSD company good enough for this while RON showed enough at his last two in KSD to follow here. But FISCAL WINGS is overdue for his good form of late and looks very well placed from gate two with 3kg claimer S Noh a smart booking. He will be handy throughout and should give a good run for his money. Throw in a couple of maidens in PROSPERITY STAR and MORE THAN WORTHY with the former a big show on what he showed last start late.

1 PUZZLE * Blinkers off but needs to improve. 33
2 RON *** Drawn wide but going along OK and improves lengths back in Class 5. 6.00
3 STAR RAINBOW *** Will pay to ignore last start as form prior good enough to win in Class 5. 5.00
4 BLACK BEAN ** In-form but query on the turf. 8.00
5 CAPRICCI PRINCE ** Improved at his last outing and should appreciate Class 5. Keep safe. 20
6 FISCAL WINGS *** Over-due for a win but looks well placed here and will be prominent throughout. 3.00
7 SEA OF LOVE ** Another who improved last start and pay to include at value. 33
8 MORE THAN WORTHY ** Yet to win but placed similar affair two starts back. 8.00
9 PROSPERITY STAR *** Another maiden who is due and good work late last start suggests he goes close here. 6.00
10 A’S VICTORIOUS ** Goes OK on his day but turf form a query. 20
11 VICTORY TOUCH * Struggles. 200
12 DOUBLE HOCK * Needs to be having a good day. 50
13 EXCUSEZ MOI *** Shown glimpses and could improve lengths with blinkers on first time. Keep safe. 20
14 AFTERNOON DELIGHT ** Blinkers off and can include in exotics at odds. 33

Race 10

Selections; 4 HOLY WARRIOR – 1 TIGER MASTER – 6 OM – 7 THUMPING
HOLY WARRIOR came to Singapore with some wraps but given the Holy Roman Emperor 4YO was always going to be better over longer, a first-up win over 1200m was a bit of a surprise. Not to all though and those that backed him at a shade under 4-1 would be jumping on-board again given the step up to the mile looks ideal. He will need to be as good as he was at his Singapore debut though as the field in this BM83 mile is strong and expect a very busy finish. TIGER MASTER looks the likely pace-setter and in good enough form to think he is hard to pass late. In fact given the race is on the E Course – which can favour those on the pace – TIGER MASTER looks extremely well placed from gate one with what could be a crucial 3kg claim. Most others have some hope with OM and the progressive THUMPING two to keep safe.

1 TIGER MASTER *** Will be on the pace and every chance from gate one with handy 3kg claim. 4.00
2 DAMO ** Back to suitable company and will add value to exotics. 20
3 TOM *** Jockey reported issues last start and previous form has him an each-way hope. 12
4 HOLY WARRIOR *** Won very well at Singapore debut and step up to the mile ideal. Hard to beat. 2.50
5 EMPEROR’S BANQUET *** Honest and should be prominent throughout. 5.00
6 OM *** Showed last start that he is always a show when on song. Each-way. 8.00
7 THUMPING *** Smart mare who looks very well placed with just 50.5kg. 4.00
8 WARSPIRIT ** Goes good enough on his day to include in exotics at value. 33

Race 11

Selections; 1 GOT LUCK – 2 ONE SMART CAT – 7 SUPERB SUCCESS – 3 LET’S SEE ACTION
Terrific field assembled for this KSC sprint and given the winning Poly form from some of these horses, the winner will earn his cheque. At the top of the weights, GOT LUCK picks himself after winning five from eight career and four from six on this surface. He has 59.5kg and has drawn wide but his form holds up anywhere on this surface and he looks the benchmark. In saying that, ONE SMART CAT has five wins exclusively on this surface and given he won last start with Hasri on-board (and the saddle slipped), he must be a huge show. Gate 5 is in his favour and a bold run is expected. SUPERB SUCCESS might be the value and with eight of his nine career wins on this surface, he could win without surprising. LET’S SEE ACTION and GOLDEN MISSION are also serious winning hopes in what is a cracking race.

1 GOT LUCK *** Smart and looks hard to beat back on the Poly in this company. 3.50
2 ONE SMART CAT *** Saddle slipped but still won last start similar affair and goes mighty close. 4.00
3 LET’S SEE ACTION *** Better than what he showed last start and might be value with OK recent trial under his belt. 12
4 GREENSTONE * Should need longer. 33
5 CASH DOT COM ** First-up run good and last win was in similar affair. Keep safe. 14
6 DRAGON SPIRIT * No. 200
7 SUPERB SUCCESS *** Drawn badly but showed last start why he is always a winning hope on the Poly. 10
8 EMPIRE BAY ** In solid form and while never winning on the Poly, must be included somewhere. 12
9 CHEETAH ON FIRE ** Will find this tougher than last start but winning form is always worth following. 12
10 MY SHINE ** Nothing last start but will improve lengths back on the Poly. Value. 20
11 GOLDEN MISSION *** Disappointing with support not to have won but due and gets a result soon. 4.00
12 SOMBRANI * Former Aussie who has been around a while waiting for Singapore debut. No. 100
13 U GOT IT ** Last start disappointing but some hope on previous form. 33
14 SUPER STRIKE * Needs easier. 100

Race 12

Selections; 2 SUPER SHADOW – 3 GOLD DANCER – 4 MY BOY JACK – 5 SPINNING SUCCESS
How tough is the last for punters trying to find a way home? You could make a case for all twelve horses and at a pinch, the only horse you could forget is the in-form CLUTHA LAD who has struggled on the turf. So where to start? SUPER SHADOW showed last start when dropping to Class 4 that he is worth following. S Noh stays on-board and expect a very forward showing which might count for plenty on the E Course. GOLD DANCER also races handy and given he is in winning form he must be a huge show with Barend Vorster retaining the ride with gate 1 a bonus. Throw the proverbial blanket over the rest of the field with MY BOY JACK and SPINNING SUCCESS featuring in top four calculations with one eye on GINSENG and MILITARY TACTIC both second up in Singapore.

1 CLUTHA LAD * In form but turf form a query. 12
2 SUPER SHADOW *** Showed last start he wins soon back in Class 4 and pay to follow. 8.00
3 GOLD DANCER *** Won similar affair last start and looks every chance from the ace. 5.00
4 MY BOY JACK *** Remains in form and gets his chance from gate two with JK onboard. 6.00
5 SPINNING SUCCESS *** Always a chance this type of race and often value. Each-way. 8.00
6 WHAT’S DAT *** In solid form and this looks very suitable to knock in a well deserved win. 6.50
7 GINSENG *** Singapore debut run better than the result and well worth a look with one eye on the tote. 10
8 MILITARY TACTIC *** Supported and excuses on debut so worth another look. 8.00
9 WASSAIC ** Last couple ordinary but recent trial OK so look for improvement. 33
10 BREAKING VAULTS ** Not far away last start in similar affair and pay to include in exotics. 20
11 CAPTAIN MCCAW ** Always in the mix but really needs a result for the support. 12
12 LADY TRIO ** Excuses last start and may get out to value in a race with depth. 20

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
