Chase Me wins the 2012 Emirates Derby

Joao Moreira and Chase Me are victorious in the Gr1 Emirates Singapore Derby on Sunday

Good turf racing continues at the mixed surface meeting on Sunday at Kranji and while the card has thrown up some fodder, the Kranji Stakes event over 1400m (race 9) looks a beauty.

The injury-plagued Derby winner, CHASE ME, heads the ratings and the weights and while he looks no chance on form with the top-impost, the race is wide open with most others having a winning hope. GOLD RUTILE looks one of the main fancies and in her favour is the fact she is as honest as the day is long.

The 7YO’s Singapore record stands at some five wins and ten placings from 20 starts and from gate 4 in a relatively small field, Munro should have her handy enough to have last crack at them late. Tactics will play a big part given there doesn’t look a lot of early speed with perhaps the Poly sprinter – EASY MAN – the exception.

If it does turn into a sprint home the likes of TRUDEAU and SLEW OF LODE will be right in the thick of things and it will pay to keep a couple of Steve Burridge runners – INDICIO and GOBI RANGER – safe with very lightweights. Elsewhere on the card, SACRED CROWN looks to have found a weak enough race (10) to win while strong maiden winner, LUCIUS VORENUS, might go on with job in Kranji Stakes D company with Barend Vorster to steer.

Race 8

Selections; 8 CARNIVAL STAR – 4 AFFIRMATION – 6 LUCKY STRATEGY – 9 PEREGRINE FALCON
A very ordinary Class 5 over 1400m on the turf. CARNIVAL STAR is suited this grade, trip and surface; he should be prominent throughout. The stablemate, STANZOUT, will be much happier getting back on turf and can show up in this grade. The visor goes back on AFFIRMATION who has won seven times at this trip and will be closing late. LUCKY STRATEGY has yet to win but put in a solid performance at his most recent run. ANODOUBT, PEREGRINE FALCON, GOLDEN ROSEWOOD and GYPSY STAR are capable of making their presence felt.

1 ANODOUBT ** Drops in grade. Only win was at this trip and could show up although starts can be costly. 12
2 SILENT ARROW * Blinkers on. Done nothing in seven starts. 33
3 STANZOUT ** Will enjoy getting back on turf and could show up. 12
4 AFFIRMATION *** Visor back on. Has won seven times at this trip and will be closing late. 4.50
5 ZAC APPEAL * Blinkers on but has done nothing in 12 starts. 33
6 LUCKY STRATEGY *** Appreciates first-up run for new stable. Could show up in this. 5.00
7 YUGIOH * Needs to improve. 33
8 CARNIVAL STAR *** Suited this trip and surface. Should be prominent throughout. 3.50

11 MYSTICAL DIAMOND ** Still a maiden after 26 outings but has placed this trip. 20
12 GYPSY STAR ** Will get a long way back and run on late. 14

Race 9

Selections; 4 GOLD RUTILE – 2 TRUDEAU – 3 SLEW OF LODE – 8 INDICIO
A KSA over 1400m with a number resuming or getting back on to their preferred surface. GOLD RUTILE is an honest mare suited this trip, she will be hard to hold off late. SLEW OF LODE has been a little disappointing but the 1400m should suit and he can be running on. TRUDEAU is better than most of these and is an EW Barker winner; he could show up fresh after a tough recent campaign that included a trip to Korea. INDICIO has been racing honestly and will appreciate being back on turf over 1400m and looks well weighted to win. VALEVOLE has never won on turf or beyond 1200m but has placed at 1400m and could get in the finish.

1 CHASE ME * Has raced once in two years. Will have a leisurely outing hopefully without incident. 33
2 TRUDEAU *** Resuming after Kranji Mile. Honest and trialling well. Could show up in this field. 4.00
3 SLEW OF LODE *** Recent form solid without being spectacular but suited this trip and can show up. 4.00
4 GOLD RUTILE *** Honest mare suited this trip. Will be hard to hold off late. 4.00
5 ONE RAR * Resuming after a super campaign but best form is on poly over longer. 12
6 VALEVOLE ** Surprised last start but yet to win on turf though he has placed at 1400m. 8.00
7 EASY MAN ** Resuming and have to take on trust given best form is on poly over shorter. 14
8 INDICIO ** Suited this distance and could easily show up with light weight. 7.00
9 GOBI RANGER ** Promising galloper who is eligible for easier but could show up. 10

Race 10

Selections; 1 SACRED CROWN – 11 GENUINE BARGAIN – 6 ENZO – 7 VANTAGE
A Class 5 over 1100m and not many of these win often. SACRED CROWN is suited this grade and distance. Alan Munro has been swapped for Desmond Chan and with the 3kg claim, he should be running on late. In fact given the field and his recent good form, he could be a good thing. GENUINE BARGAIN worked home well when resuming and his only his win was at this trip; with Farrick Tan on top he has no weight and should close off well. ENZO has been running over unsuitable distances, he is much better placed here and can be in the finish. SARAWI has been battling on and can be thereabouts once again. Amongst the others PEGASUS VICTORY finds himself in something more suitable, VANTAGE surprised last start and PRINCETON looms from time to time.

1 SACRED CROWN *** Suited this grade and distance. Gets 3kg claim and should be running on late. 4.00
2 RAPID REWARDS * Unsighted last start. Needs to be ridden forward. 20
3 CLEVER BRIGHT * Still a maiden and needs to improve. 33
4 DRAGON WALK ** Far from reliable but should be handy throughout. 12
5 WINFREY ** Battled on last start and could be running on late. 12
6 ENZO *** Has been running over unsuitable distances. Much better placed here and can be in the finish. 5.00
7 VANTAGE ** Surprised placing over 1100m last start but only win is at 1900m. 14
8 JUST DUIT * Form poor. 33
9 PRINCETON * Looms from time to time but remains a maiden. 20
10 PEGASUS VICTORY ** Blinkers on. Would prefer 1000m but can give some cheek. 10
11 GENUINE BARGAIN *** Worked home well when resuming and only win was at this trip. 4.00
12 SARAWI ** Has been battling on and can be thereabouts once again. 10
13 MAGIC DIVA * Has not shown much for a while and needs to improve. 20

Race 11

Selections; 3 LUCIUS VORENUS – 9 LION MASTER – 1 AMAZON GOLD – 4 SCIENCE FICTION
An ordinary KSD over 1100m on the poly. LUCIUS VORENUS had been trying for a while but broke through last start and could be up to this grade. In fact his win was so dominant – albeit in an easier race than this – that you would expect him to go on with the job. LION MASTER is honest, he will enjoy the claim for Firdaus and will be on the speed for a long way. AMAZON GOLD placed at 1100m on the poly last start, he is suited this grade but his only win was on turf; with Manoel Nunes up he will be trying to change that statistic. XIN TREASURE is usually thereabouts and is suited this grade on the poly; with Benny Woodworth from the ace he should get a good run throughout. SCIENCE FICTION has been freshened and drops in grade, he will be running on but may want turf and longer.

1 AMAZON GOLD *** Placed at 1100m on poly last start. Suited this grade but only win was on turf. Gets top rider and should be in the finish. 4.50
2 CALLIDE RIVER * Tongue tie on but wants longer than this. 33
3 LUCIUS VORENUS *** Broke through last start and could be up to this grade. 5.00
4 SCIENCE FICTION *** Has been freshened and drops in grade. Will be running on but may want turf and a tad longer. 6.00
5 XIN TREASURE ** Returned not striding last two starts but usually thereabouts and suited this grade on the poly. 6.00
6 JOE ** Poorly drawn but suited this grade and will be on the speed throughout. 10
7 SUPER SPUR ** Versatile and suited this level. Can show up. 10
8 GUILTLESS ** Won a weak maiden last start and this is harder. 14
9 LION MASTER *** Honest and will be on the speed for a long way. 7.00
10 TOMORROW’S GOLD * Resuming. Still a maiden and tested here. 33
11 CHEETAH * Struggling of late and needs longer. 25
12 HAPPY SAGA * Won a weak maiden last start and tested here. 33
13 BEAUTY ADMIRE * Maiden and can find easier. 33
14 DOS EQUIS * Wants easier and longer. 50

Race 12

Selections; 2 LIM’S RALLY – 3 A LA VICTORY – 4 ASSERTIVE LAD – 8 JUST NAME IT
A Class 4 on the turf over 1200m with a number of chances – several of which are resuming. LIMS’S RALLY is racing well and has a turf win to his credit at 1200m; he will be in the finish. ASSERTIVE LAD is trialing nicely, he goes well this trip and with Zuriman up should get a good run throughout. A LA VICTORY is another resuming, he might want longer but has ability and with blinkers off can sprint well fresh. JUST NAME IT also resumes, he has ability and whilst he may want longer will be closing late. The newcomer KNIGHT WAGER is an Ellerslie (NZ) 1400m Maiden winner who is trialling nicely and could show up fresh, watch for support. To round it off, BLACK SNOW is very consistent, he is resuming but can sprint well fresh.

1 BLACK SNOW ** Resuming. Consistent and can sprint well fresh so a must for exotics. 10
2 LIM’S RALLY *** Racing well and has a turf win to his credit at 1200m. Will be in the finish. 4.00
3 A LA VICTORY *** Resuming. Blinkers off. Might want longer but has ability and can sprint well fresh. 6.00
4 ASSERTIVE LAD *** Trialling nicely. Goes well this trip and should get a good run throughout. 4.00
5 CITY OF SAILS ** Didn’t run on last start. Could be tested on turf over 1200m. 16
6 KNIGHT WAGER ** Ellerslie (NZ) 1400m Maiden winner who is trialling nicely and could show up fresh. Watch for support. 12
7 TROPICAL FOREST * Will be tested against these. 33
8 JUST NAME IT *** Freshened after breaking maiden status this company last start. Has ability and whilst he may want longer will be closing late. 6.00
9 DYLAN ** Will appreciate being back on turf but may want easier. 12
10 LET’S TALK NOW * Battles away but doesn’t win often and wants easier. 25
11 SINGLE ACT * Tested this grade and may be looking for Class 5. 33
12 SOUTH GATE * Wants longer. 50
