Ronnie Brown looks hard to beat in the BM74 Sprint

Pat Shaw knows how to place a horse. And the South African handler looks to have found the perfect race for CANNON HILL to break his Kranji duck. The Irish-bred gelding has yet to win in Singapore racing but has certainly showed more than enough in good company of late to think he is better than what a BM53 field (race 8) has to offer. But that is where he finds himself – albeit with a rating of 55 – and given his runs of late behind the likes of GREENSTONE, he should just win. To make CANNON HILL a ‘good thing’, Shaw has the in-form apprentice Harry Kassim onboard with his 3kg claim a factor and he does look one of the better bets of the meeting. Elsewhere on the card, RONNIE BROWN looks hard to beat in the BM74 sprint over 1100m (race 9). The Darci Brahma 3YO has won three of six career starts and while finding one better at his last two starts, this looks prefect to get back into the winners circle and in doing so add another to the Moreira 2013 total.

.

Best Bets; CANNON HILL (race 8, win), RONNIE BROWN (race 9, win) and FLYING WILD (race 12, each-way).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 9 (8), race 10 (1, 2, 4, 5 and 6), race 11 (1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 12) and race 12 (4, 5 and 6).

Race 8

Selections; 1 CANNON HILL – 4 LUCKY RISE – 5 SAINT VALLEY – 8 THINK AHEAD
CANNON HILL looks a good thing here. To be sure, to be sure, the Irish-bred gelding hasn’t won in ten starts in Singapore but has had excuses for not getting into the winners circle at his last few in better company than this. So a BM53 over 1900m with a top 3kg claimer in Harry Kassim looks a winning move by trainer Pat Shaw and the 5YO can win. The only concern is the fact he has drawn wide but expect a positive ride from the 1900m chute and he could win going away. But the race has depth and LUCKY RISE looks in good enough order to follow with Joao Moreira on-board and SAINT VALLEY certainly showed enough late behind BROWNE’S ANATOMY (who is also a hope) to follow. Add THINK AHEAD at value – he stays all day – with INCREDIBLE HULK sure to be coming into his own late. A good race but CANNON HILL the one to beat.

1 CANNON HILL *** Excuses last start and sneaks into a BM53 with 56kg courtesy of 3kg claimer; hard to beat. 4.00
2 BROWNE’S ANATOMY *** Broke maiden status last start and certainly up to this company; follow. 4.50
3 BY LAW ** Did it tough last start with support (Moreira) and can follow each-way as usually competitive. 12
4 LUCKY RISE *** Looks due and expect support and a big run with Moreira on-board. 3.50
5 SAINT VALLEY *** Flew home last start in maiden company over a mile; this looks suitable and pay to follow. 8.00
6 INCREDIBLE HULK *** Jockey reported issues last start and while no finding, he will be flying late in what is a suitable race. 12
7 SUPER ZUCCA ** Not at his best of late but good enough on his day to play a part from gate four. 20
8 THINK AHEAD *** Stays like a mother-in-law and happy to follow each-way over this trip. 15
9 ALVITO ** Excellent work late last start on this surface has him under notice. 20
10 DRUMSARA * Resuming after a poor effort but did break maiden status two back; take on trust. 33
11 EIGHTH AVENUE ** Another in-form and has to be included somewhere with best work expected late. 20

Race 9

Selections; 8 RONNIE BROWN – 1 SECRET MISSION – 7 SEIZE THE DAY – 5 SHAOLIN SOLDIER
RONNIE BROWN is a nice type who can get back into the winners circle in what is a very suitable race. He did a few things wrong early last start and never really looked like winning but appreciates the outing and certainly good enough to win this. Unfortunately for followers he would have been short in the betting regardless but with Moreira on, he might be odds-on. The race has depth though so he will need to be at his best with SECRET MISSION at the head of the ratings a danger. The former Argentinean showed enough on debut on the Poly to think this suits and obviously we could ignore his last start ninth as that was a big ask second up in Group company. Not much between SEIZE THE DAY and SHAOLIN SOLDIER – both winning hopes – with CALIFORNIA GIRL adding plenty of early pace and the others will pay to watch her closely.

1 SECRET MISSION *** Placed in similar affair at Singapore debut; goes close. 6.00
2 BAZINGA ** Resuming after poor run but form prior has him having a say with blinkers removed for this. 12
3 FAST BREAK ** Solid first up placing and a must for exotics. 12
4 ECLAIR FLYER ** Resuming after long break and pay to watch tote as only win in Singapore was on debut. 20
5 SHAOLIN SOLDIER *** Switch back to Poly in his favour and will be flying late; each-way. 7.00
6 FARRAND ** Form starting to read badly but thereabouts on a good day. 33
7 SEIZE THE DAY *** Broke through for well deserved win last start and happy to follow each-way. 8.00
8 RONNIE BROWN *** First up run good enough to think he improves and gets back into the winners circle here. 2.50
9 WASSAIC ** This is as short as he wants it but will be working into this late. 12
10 CALIFORNIAN GIRL *** Has speed and trip suits; big show. 12
11 RAGING STORM ** Goes OK on his day but might be looking for easier company. 20

Race 10

Selections; 2 LUXURIOUS CHOICE – 4 DRAGONFLY – 6 DRAGON NINETYNINE – 1 PHANTOM KNIGHT
A couple of smart and lightly raced horses DRAGONFLY and DRAGON NINETYNINE (not related) both appeal in what is an interesting Class 4 mile. DRAGON FLY – trained by Madam Dragon just to further muddy the waters – looks a very promising American-bred 4YO and showed more than enough breaking his maiden status over 1400m last start to follow. The mile and the Poly looks no problem – in fact could be in his favour – with the only concern being a wide gate on this tight course. DRAGON NINETYNINE also comes into this off a nice maiden win and his barnstorming finish suggests the mile is ideal. Both should do well but might find LUXURIOUS CHOICE hard to toss over his winning trip. The 5YO had support last start in a nice field (won by ONE RAR) and did enough to think he can make amends for followers with pacifiers added from a nice enough gate today. A few others to follow but last start winner PHANTOM KNIGHT does look the ‘best of the rest’ and certainly in the mix late.

1 PHANTOM KNIGHT *** Super late run last start to win and Poly mile looks suitable; follow. 6.00
2 LUXURIOUS CHOICE *** Supported and placed last start similar affair and looks a winning show here. 4.00
3 STAGE BRIGHT ** Appreciates first up run and extra trip won’t hurt; improves but place best from wide gate. 33
4 DRAGONFLY *** Drawn awkwardly but blitzed what looked an OK maiden field last start and hard to beat on that effort. 3.00
5 SPINNING SUCCESS ** Doesn’t win out of turn but form OK, gate one helps and can get out to each-way value. 18
6 DRAGON NINETYNINE *** Grew wings late to break maiden status and that win good enough to follow with step up in trip ideal. 5.00
7 APRIL’S KNIGHT ** First up run a beauty and while step up in trip in his favour, he might need longer again to win. 20
8 IRO OTOKO ** Widest gate always some concern over the mile on this track but bold run last start has him under notice. 12
9 MARCUSINO ** Form starting to read badly but this race might suit; watch market. 20
10 THE GIANT * Showed little when blinkers added last start; no. 100
11 ZAC SEDUCTION ** Thereabouts as a rule, last start OK and worth though at odds first time over the mile. 20
12 MAX VELOCITY * Huge run at long odds last start but not sure he backs that up on the Poly. 50
13 PEGASUS VICTORY ** In fine form but like to see in something shorter before we get excited. 50
14 CHINA EAGLE ** Loomed in the straight last start and pay to keep safe at value. 33

Race 11

Selections; 7 GYPSY MAGIC – 1 DYNAMIC VENTURE – 5 DOUBLE S – 8 SPEEDY PHIL
An interesting Class 5 sprint with a few Class droppers likely to show improvement and could test the usual suspects. DYNAMIC VENTURE in particular might grow a leg at his first start in Class 5. He is a maiden, drawn badly and is coming off a shocker but that might just get some value for those who have witnessed some big runs in Class 4 on the Poly. The horse he may have to pass late to win is GYPSY MAGIC. The Leslie Khoo-trained gelding was backed last start and although beaten into third, the run good enough to follow today with the nice gate definitely a factor. DOUBLE S has also drawn well and is in this a very long way with SPEEDY PHIL also likely to have plenty of admirers and run a bold race. MY SACRIFICE down in grade and WONDER GENERAL over his favourite trip are the other two to watch.

1 DYNAMIC VENTURE *** Ignore last start as he looks a duffer on the grass and can win on excellent Poly form in better company than this. 6.00
2 FOUNTAIN ** Won three starts back over 1100m but not the most reliable. 20
3 MY SACRIFICE *** Wide gate a concern but drop to winning grade has him under notice. 12
4 QUALITASE * Needs longer. 100
5 DOUBLE S *** Always a show this type of race and must be some hope after drawing gate one. 5.00
6 DRAGON WISH * Struggles as a rule. 100
7 GYPSY MAGIC *** Hassled out front last start so the effort to stay on was good; can win this. 3.50
8 SPEEDY PHIL *** Covered ground last start so good job to place with support; goes close here. 3.50
9 JUST LIKE THAT * Easier to ignore. 100
10 LUCKY SUN * Might be caught short on speed over this trip. 33
11 WHYDOYOUASK ** Last two terrible but placed last time this jockey on-board so look for improvement. 20
12 WONDER GENERAL *** last run just fair but has been supported of late and 1000m does look his caper; keep safe. 8.50

Race 12

Selections; 6 FLYING WILD – 5 WORK AHEAD – 4 ARADEA – 7 LITTLE BUT FIERCE
This race looks a beauty to close the meeting and there is sure to be value to be found with so much depth. In saying that, Joao Moreira stays on-board a last start winner in WORK AHEAD so no value there but hard to leave out. His win last start was impressive from a wide gate and he very much enjoys this surface. But FLYING WILD also likes the Poly and given he won on the surface three starts back and put in an eye-catching run late last start, he can win. It wouldn’t hurt if regular hoop, Alan Munro, can have him handier in running from gate four but he will be flying late. ARADEA also looks well placed in this company/race to show his best and a big run – hopefully at each-way odds – is on the cards. But you can also make a case for DANZIG ROCKET, MACHFIVE, STANZOUT, LITTLE BUT FIERCE and TROJANE – the latter two at long odds. Go very wide in exotics.

1 DANZIG ROCKET *** Won this trip two starts back and in this a very long way from gate two. 5.00
2 MACHFIVE *** Wide gate makes it tough but race suits and should figure somewhere. 6.00
3 TROJANE *** Very much appreciates solid Singapore debut run and pay to watch for support. 6.00
4 ARADEA *** Placed in nice company last start and looks every chance in what is a suitable race/field here. 4.00
5 WORK AHEAD *** Good win from wide gate similar affair last start and have to follow. 3.00
6 FLYING WILD *** Impressed late last start and won last time over this trip/surface; can win. 4.00
7 LITTLE BUT FIERCE *** Loomed large last start and improves with two runs under his belt; keep safe. 20
8 CARTAGO * Needs longer. 100
9 PREMIER GRADE ** Took a drop in Class to break through but competitive as a rule this company. 20
10 STANZOUT *** Appreciates first up run and always an each-way hope this type of race; value. 12
11 MONTE CRISTO * Gate one helps but reassess Class 5. 100
