Nine very even races are on offer on Friday night and while that makes for some interesting races, punters will need to be on their toes with each-way value probably a good betting option.

It was hard to find a “special” on the night but the Walker/Nunes combination is always a good place to start and MISS WAIMATAITAI looks hard to beat in race 2 on the card.

The 3YO filly made an auspicious debut when not beaten far behind Lake Huka and given that form has been franked in Class 4 Company, she should be hard to beat with no weight at the Restricted Maiden weight conditions.

Elsewhere on the card, it will pay to look at horses that find themselves in the right type of race and DREAMCATCHER in race 6 – a Kranji Stakes D event over 1200m on the Poly – looks to have done just that.

Again, Mark Walker trains and this time R Shafiq – his go to claimer – rides and the hoop was frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120successful on the 7YO the last time he won in this company.

The combination also has an each-way hope on EATONS GOLD in the lucky last and it might just be a pairing to follow with value in mind on what looks a tough night.

Friday 23 October

Best Bets: (MISS WAIMATAITAI race 2, win), (DREAMCATCHER race 6, each-way) and (EATONS GOLD race 9, value).

Race 1

Selections; 2 POWER LIN – 4 NINETYSEVENSUCCESS – 6 SUPER BONUS – 1 OUR TOUCHE
There looks only three serious winning hopes in the opener with POWER LIN, NINETYSEVENSUCCESS and SUPER BONUS the one’s to watch. POWER LIN looked to have no real chance in running last start and happy to think that effort when supported in Class 4 is good enough to win this. He also gets to jump from gate 3 and CC Wong should give him every chance. NINETYSEVENSUCCESS resuming could be the testing material. The now 4YO broke a frustrating run of outs to break his maiden status at start seven and you would expect support to win first up with plenty of trials under his belt. SUPER BONUS is the interesting runner. The 5YO’s three wins have all been in Class 5 but he had excuses last start (respiratory) and will enjoy being back on the Poly. Of the rest, OUR TOUCHE has been disappointing but should appreciate the company with EASY MONEY and DOUBLE CASH the only other two that could figure in the finish.

1 OUR TOUCHE ** Struggling of late but should improve in this company. 12
2 POWER LIN *** Last start better than the result and this races looks very suitable to win. 3.00
3 EASY MONEY ** Issues last start (roarer) and worth another look at odds on what he showed two back. 20
4 NINETYSEVENSUCCESS *** Resuming after breaking maiden status back in April and must go close in this field. 3.00
5 TENMA ** Backing up after never looking likely last Friday and could work into this late. 20
6 SUPER BONUS *** Respiratory issues last start so ignore and keep very safe with nice recent trial under his belt. 4.00
7 DOUBLE CASH ** Might pay to forgive poor effort last start as always some hope on the Poly. 12
8 REMEMBER ME * Maiden whose recent form suggests we wait fro Class 5. 20
9 VITALLY SECRET * Reassess easier and over longer. 33
10 KING OF KOON * Needs easier and perhaps headgear. 33

Race 2

Selections; 10 MISS WAIMATAITAI – 1 LUMINIFF LAD – 5 CONFLIGHT – 7 MAGIC PAINT
A nice maiden dash over 1000m with at least half the field ready to win. Starting from gate 1, MISS WAIMATAITAI gets her chance after what was an impressive debut. The 3YO filly didn’t miss by much behind Lake Huka on that occasion and given that form has been franked, she looks hardest to beat with no weight and Manny Nunes to steer. At the top of the weights LUMINIFF LAD also looks well placed to show his best after drawing gate 3. The 4YO did it extremely tough when wide on debut and that experience coupled with the nice draw should see a very good run. CONFLIGHT splits the pair in gate 2 and given he didn’t miss by much on debut, he wins this without surprising with Oscar Chavez staying on-board. Of the others with winning hopes, DRAGON GOLD showed last start that 1000m is his caper and MAGIC PAINT on debut is also worth a look on his solid trial.

1 LUMINIFF LAD *** Did it extremely tough on debut and that effort and trial form suggests he gives this a shout from gate 3. 6.00
2 DRAGON GOLD *** Showed last start the 1000m is his caper and in this a long way. 8.00
3 LIM’S RESPOND ** Ran on well when resuming but may want longer than this. 12
4 BAIL OUT ** Excuses not to finish closer last start and can include in exotics. 20
5 CONFLIGHT *** Excuses not win on debut and hard to beat in this field. 3.50
6 DE WANTED * Not wanted on debut but should benefit from the run. 100
7 MAGIC PAINT *** Looked solid when winning Official Trial and pay to keep safe. 10
8 NOVA SPIRIT ** Improves on debut run and recent trial (albeit with blinkers) was good so watch market. 33
9 THE WIND ** Ran on well at debut and improves for the run but may want longer. 20
10 MISS WAIMATAITAI *** Placed on debut and that form has been franked so looks the one to beat. 2.50

Race 3

Selections; 1 GOLDEN CURL – 4 GOLDEN TOMAHAWK – 2 VERTICAL START – 8 STAR GENERAL
A very good race early on the card and it might be a case of GOLDEN CURL or GOLDEN TOMAHAWK. Or perhaps a name-game forecast as the two should be fighting out this finish. There looks to be a bit of early pace so GOLDEN CURL should get every chance to show his best late. The 7YO will be motoring home and given he has been performing well in better company than this of late, he gets his chance. GOLDEN TOMAHAWK will also appreciate a solid clip and given his impressive race record that sees three wins and six places from just 11 career starts, he is the testing material. Of the rest with winning hopes, VERTICAL START will very much appreciate being back on the Poly so it will pay to put a line through his last start while STAR GENERAL looks a very progressive 4YO and must be a show in this company.

1 GOLDEN CURL *** Will find this company to his liking and should be motoring late. 4.00
2 VERTICAL START *** Very much appreciates being back on the Poly and recent trial suggests he gives this a shake. 6.00
3 CASH BOX ** Issues last start (respiratory) so ignore and take on solid Poly form prior. 12
4 GOLDEN TOMAHAWK *** Super consistent and looks a winning hope back on the Poly. 3.00
5 SMART PEOPLE ** Always a winning show but needs a result while in form. 20
6 Q NINE MAGIC ** Better than what he showed last start and this company should be more suitable. 6.00
7 SECRET LIBERTY ** Resuming and has enough speed to have some say from gate 1. 20
8 STAR GENERAL *** Progressive type who is just going too well not to think he is up to this company. 6.00
9 GRAVITY * No. 100
10 HUMOR TOWN * Struggling. 100

Race 4

Selections; 3 RON – 1 CLERMONT CLUB – 8 HANDSOME BAB – 2 HARDEN UP
Not a lot of depth to this Class 5 mile and the usual suspects should battle out this finish. CLERMONT CLUB with Manny Nunes up looks the benchmark. The 6YO dropped to Class 5 two starts back and has showed he wins sooner than later in this company over this trip and it may be a case of whoever beats him wins. Hopefully that is RON. Like CLERMONT CLUB, RON has only had two starts back in Class 5 and those two efforts from wide gates good enough to think he can make use of the ace today and win. Two others that win without surprising are the small horse – HANDSOME BAB – who showed last start that blinkers will see a result while HARDEN UP comes into this in winning form and has to be a chance. Both have drawn wide though and will rely on some luck.

1 CLERMONT CLUB *** Wins one of these sooner than later and looks the benchmark. 3.00
2 HARDEN UP *** Coming off a solid turf win but previous Poly form suggests he goes close again. 4.50
3 RON *** Not far away last couple this Class and gets his chance here after drawing the ace. 3.00
4 DRAPPIER ** Coming off a shocker but does mix his form so one to keep safe at odds. 33
5 GALLANT HEIGHTS ** Always battling away and worth an each-way look. 7.00
6 BREAKING VAULTS ** Form reads badly but gets blinkers and could surprise. 33
7 PINYIN * Start costly and easier to ignore. 100
8 HANDSOME BAB *** Gate an issue but just missed last start with blinkers added and pay to follow. 10
9 GRAND PARIS ** Recent form better than it reads and can include in exotics at odds. 20
10 ROYAL FLUSH * No. 100
11 SILVER FLY * Can run on late but easier to leave out. 33
12 NORTH STAR * No. 100
13 HAPPY SAGA ** Form reads badly but appreciates being back on the Poly with winkers removed. 20
14 SIMPANG * Pops up on occasion but have to take on trust. 50

Race 5

Selections; 2 WINNING GOOD – 3 ABOVE THE SKYLINE – 1 GO LANCE – 8 MIGHTY EMPEROR
This race looks an absolute raffle given the top five picks have drawn no better than gate 9 and wide gates over the mile does make winning tough. WINNING GOOD gets back in his races so Corey Brown won’t be worrying too much and the horse is certainly going well enough to win this. In his favour is that a few of those drawn around him that do look to have winning hopes in GO LANCE, VOYAGER and ABOVE THE SKYLINE all should go forward and hopefully set up a solid early clip. The trio will need luck getting a good position into the tight first bend but all three are in form and will break their respective maiden status’ sooner than later. Throw in MIGHTY EMPEROR, who could also try to go forward from a wide gate, and FLYING WINNER as winning hopes.

1 GO LANCE *** Drawn awkwardly but foot on the till and must go close. 4.50
2 WINNING GOOD *** Will be doing best work late and will figure in this finish. 4.00
3 ABOVE THE SKYLINE *** Just missed last start and gets another chance. 4.00
4 VOYAGER *** Drawn wide but cheeky run expected with tongue-tie added. 12
5 YU LONG GLORIOUS * Form hopeless but has been racing in good company. 50
6 RAHUL * Recent trial OK but easier to ignore. 33
7 ROYAL EXPLORER ** Disappointing last start but trialed well since and appreciates gate 1. 12
8 MIGHTY EMPEROR *** Just missed at his last couple in Class 5 but will need luck from wide gate. 5.00
9 SUPERB SEVEN * No. 100
10 VOLCANO * No. 100
11 FLYING WINNER *** Improved efforts last couple and can figure in this finish. 8.00
12 MATOAKA * No. 100
13 SHUYING XIAOXIAO * Gets blinkers and tongue-tie but needs show more. 100
14 ALLEZ ** Has been working into races late but query on the Poly. 12

Race 6

Selections; 1 DREAMCATCHER – 4 IMPERIAL BOY – 8 GOLDEN PASTURE – 5 SOON YI
A tricky affair with many of these horses looking like improving on recent form given the drop to Kranji Stakes D company and the tote may be a very good guide. Case in point should be the top weight, DREAMCATCHER. The 7YO has been thereabouts in Class 4 without being a winning threat but given he won at a shade over even money the last time he was in this company, he must go close with support. IMPERIAL BOY looks the safest option. The 4YO has drawn badly but has been ultra consistent at five runs since breaking his maiden status back in May and should figure in the mix. Two others to consider include GOLDEN PASTURE who comes off a shocker but his previous form has him involved at the business end while SOON YI looks out of form but will be motoring late so has to be kept safe.

1 DREAMCATCHER *** Form better than it reads and finds himself in recent winning company so expect support. 3.00
2 INCANDESCENT ** Not a mile away last start and senior hoop a significant move. Improves. 10
3 FELAROF ** Should need longer to win but comes under notice in this company. 12
4 IMPERIAL BOY *** Has been in consistent form since maiden win and goes close in this field. 4.00
5 SOON YI *** Form reads badly but ran on well when resuming and could very well pinch this late. 12
6 LOUEY VELOCE ** Nothing last start but previous form in this company suggests he is kept safe. 7.00
7 THANKFULNESS ** Just battled last two but this type of race does look his caper. 20
8 GOLDEN PASTURE *** Will find this easier than Class 4 and has to be considered on previous form. 8.00
9 FALKIRK LEAD * No. 100
10 AMI ELEVEN * Maiden who may want longer. 50
11 TURQUOISE SON * Gets blinkers but easier to ignore. 50
12 CASSIS OOLONG ** Appreciate being back on the Poly and should need easier to win. 12

Race 7

Selections; 4 POWER PLAY – 8 BLOSSOMS SEQUEL – 9 ODE TO JOY – 7 SQUIRE OSBALDESTON
What a race. Some very good horses in form head to the start, which should see a betting frenzy. Most are in Poly form as well so while a horse like ZULULAND looks ready to break a long winning drought, he is a risk at his first start on the all-weather so happy to leave him out of the top four or five picks. As it stands, POWER PLAY looks a good option. The Pat Shaw-trained 4YO won two back on the Poly and certainly wasn’t disgraced at his most recent turf outing in good company. Blinkers go on and he should be prominent throughout. But the winning form in this race is serious with BLOSSOMS SEQUEL and ODE TO JOY both coming into this with multiple wins under their belts. BLOSSOMS SEQUEL – who beat POWER PLAY last start – is absolutely flying and given his Poly form, he must go close. Throw in SQUIRE OSBALDESTON and WAR TIME at value and good luck!

1 GOLIATH ** Just fair of late but last win was in similar affair to this so look for improvement. 20
2 DUJARDIN * Struggling but may appreciate switch to Poly. 50
3 NANDOWRA * Struggled last two and have to take on trust. 50
4 POWER PLAY *** Gets blinkers and can overcome wide gate and win what is a very suitable race. 4.00
5 WAR TIME *** Not far away last start at odds and will pay to start following. 12
6 ZULULAND ** Tries the Poly for the first time to turn some good form into an overdue win. 4.50
7 SQUIRE OSBALDESTON *** Not far away last start and handles the Poly so can win this. 5.00
8 BLOSSOMS SEQUEL *** In spanking form and just winning too well not to follow through the grades. 5.00
9 ODE TO JOY *** Another horse winning too well not to think he is up to this company. 5.00
10 HOT GOLD ** Yet to win trip or track but usually thereabouts and will add value to exotics. 20

Race 8

Selections; 5 RACER KING – 3 COTE DE NUITS – 4 HIKO YUNIKON – 6 TOAST’S ANGEL
No depth to this race and as such a couple of horses that have been in good form but struggling to win in COTE DE NUITS and RACER KING gets their chance. It was a virtual toss up to split them but RACER KING showed last start that the Poly is his caper and while only winning once in 18 career starts, he is honest and should figure heavily in the finish. Likewise, COTE DE NUITS has been in very honest form of late and no one would begrudge the 5YO a win. He is yet to break his Singapore duck but he looks the benchmark with Nunes up and a one-two finish is likely. Best Nine changed his name to HIKO YUNIKON and connections will be hoping he can knock in another win, which would be his fourth at start 16 – not a bad strike rate. Not many others win on recent form but TOAST’S ANGEL is going better than her form reads while KLEVER WARRIOR and LADY ROULETTE could figure.

1 LADY ROULETTE ** Going along in good order but can have issues late over this trip. 10
2 SCIENCE FICTION * Not a mile away last start but should need longer. 20
3 COTE DE NUITS *** Due and might not find one easier than this. 2.50
4 HIKO YUNIKON *** Late Best Nine. Always a show on the Poly and recent trial was eye-catching. 6.00
5 RACER KING *** Will find this company to his liking and should figure in the finish. 3.50
6 TOAST’S ANGEL ** Form better than it reads and could give this a shout at odds. 33
7 KLEVER WARRIOR ** Resuming sans headgear and has gone well this trip first up previously so keep safe. 20
8 PETITE VICTOIRE * Better form has been in Class 5. 33
9 CONGO ZANDOR * Struggling. 50
10 ROMA * Reassess Class 5. 33
11 GOOD SCORE * Nuisance value only this company. 33
12 BOURNE ACADEMY * Needs to show some race form. 50

Race 9

Selections; 3 CORONET PEAK – 9 EATONS GOLD – 10 THE GENERAL – 5 MEXBOROUGH BOY
A very odd race to finish the night with three of our winning hopes coming off seemingly poor efforts. But the trio in question – BOARD WALK, MEXBOROUGH BOY and EATONS GOLD either get back into more suitable company or in BOARD WALK’s case, back on his preferred surface. All three could also start at good enough odds so it will pay to keep them safe regardless of the support. But as its stands, CORONET PEAK is honest and looks very well placed to continue his good run of form. He also often starts at each-way odds so is a very good punting option. In saying that, THE GENERAL might beat them all. The former Argentinean has been more than competitive at his six starts in Singapore and will find this easier than last start where he mixed it with some very nice types; expect support but it is an open race.

1 BOARD WALK *** Inconsistent but won his last two on the Poly and have to keep safe. 12
2 CLUTHA LAD ** Resuming and should need longer but does have first-up form. 12
3 CORONET PEAK *** In form, race suits and often value. Follow. 6.00
4 LIVELY DRAGON ** Going along in good order but 1200m does test. 6.00
5 MEXBOROUGH BOY *** Back in suitable company and can give a sight. 7.00
6 RAPIDO STAR ** Recent form hopeless but comes under notice with senior hoop in easier company. 33
7 JUSTICE WORLD * Enjoys the Poly but back in trip a concern. 20
8 RUSTY BROWN ** Not often seen on the Poly but doe handle the surface and pay to follow each-way. 20
9 EATONS GOLD *** Ignore last start as did look due in this company prior. 10
10 THE GENERAL *** Progressive Poly sprinter who will find this easier than last start. Big show. 3.00
11 PHILANTHROPIST ** Not the type to win out of turn but always thereabouts and another to include in exotics. 12
