Singapore Racing – Friday

Friday 4 September

Mighty Glory wins in Singapore on 10-07-15

Mighty Glory gives cause to arrive in time for race 4

After a few ordinary meetings the racing gets back on track in Singapore on Friday with a very solid nine race card.

A mixture of maidens and some lower rated handicaps get the night under way but MIGHTY GLORY makes it well worthwhile to get there early and ensure you are in the punting zone by race 4. And while it may only be a Kranji Stakes D (division 2 no less), the field has plenty of depth that will be a solid punting affair.

MIGHTY GLORY looks well-placed in this company and while he has only won once in some 16 starts, he is honest, races on the pace and gets his chance here after just missing in a similar affair last start. The best races – as always – come later in the card and race 7 looks a beauty with some top horses contesting a BM83 event over 1400m.

frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120FRAAJILISTIC won first up over 1200m at his last start and given this trip looks more suitable; he could be hardest to beat. But the field has plenty of in-form and progressive horses so the 5YO will have to be at his honest best with the likes of MAJESTIC MOMENTS, ABSOLUTELY and SPEED OF SEED all more than capable on their respective day.

Race 1

Selections; 4 TIM – 1 GOLDEN RABBIT – 2 GOOD LOOUKEN – 7 HAPPY SAGA
With a few horses with winning hopes drawn wide and a swooper with some hope drawn the ace, things could get messy for punters in the opener. But TIM looks a solid option on recent form and with a slight gear change – winkers to visor – he gets his chance. Michael Rodd gets back on and with spring in the air (albeit in Melbourne), the affable hoop will be looking at a big start to the big weekend. GOLDEN RABBIT has drawn wide (13) but finds himself back in the right company. In fact after his win three back when ridden quieter in this company, his next start in Class 4 suggests he appreciates being ridden cold and he should be working into this late if he gets any luck from the alley. GOOD LOOUKEN is also in the winning mix if you are happy to ignore this last start when he returned not striding. He won’t win out of turn but did look due previously. The swooper is HAPPY SAGA who might find traffic after drawing gate 1 and a few others could be included in exotics.

1 GOLDEN RABBIT *** Will need some luck from wide gate but must go close back in recent winning company. 6.00
2 GOOD LOOUKEN *** Returned not striding last start so pay to ignore and take on previous good form. 7.00
3 SATELLITE PRINCE ** Should need longer but gets blinkers and recent trial suggests he improves. 20
4 TIM *** Foot on the till and right in this finish with winkers to visor. 3.00
5 BALESTRA * Nuisance value only on what we saw late last start. 20
6 BEAT TO QUARTERS ** Always an each way show and will make his presence felt late. 8.00
7 HAPPY SAGA *** Will be flying and wins when the race run to suit swoopers. 10
8 SIMPANG ** In solid form and a must for exotics. 10
9 SUPER SPUR ** Disappointed last two starts when supported in this company and have to take on trust. 10
10 FARRAND ** Can include in exotics but needs to find a few lengths to consider seriously. 20
11 FLAMING FIREHEART ** Disappointing last two but previous form OK so keep safe. 20
12 KATONG PARK * Maiden resuming and prefer others. 33
13 HEAVENLY GIFT * Last start better but easier to ignore. 50
14 HAPPY PRINCESS * No. 100

.

Race 2

Selections; 3 MARINE TREASURE – 6 BLACK SWAN – 1 WINNING CAUSE – 8 MAGSTOCK
After just missing last start over this trip, WINNING CAUSE looks the obvious choice and probably starts favourite. Juglall stays on board the Pat Shaw-trained gelding and you can expect the 3YO to be doing his best work late. However, boing a Northern Hemisphere bred horse, he does have to give the Southern-bred horses some 5.5kg in weight, which could be telling. As such, MARINE TREASURE could show them a clean pair of heels on the E Course and be very hard to pass late. The 3YO has been unlucky not to have won previously and looks perfectly placed here with blinkers to winkers and the returning Mario Esposito getting his chance. For value a horse that may improve on what was an eye-catching debut with excuses is BLACK SWAN. The Australian-bred gelding had a torrid run and will improve lengths with experience and over more ground. MAGSTOCK placed on debut so has to be considered while most others could easily show up in exotics in a maiden with depth.

1 WINNING CAUSE *** Just missed last start in similar affairs and will be flying late. 3.00
2 ROAN RANGER ** Battled on well last start this trip and can include in exotics. 33
3 MARINE TREASURE *** Blinkers to winkers and could be hard to pass late. 4.00
4 HUSSONATOR ** Disappointing not to have placed with the support he has received but blinkers could do the track. 7.00
5 LEE MAN ** Can be hard to follow but showed enough last start to keep safe with upgrade to blinkers. 6.00
6 BLACK SWAN *** Green and excuses on what was an eye-catching debut so well worth following with recent good trial a pointer. 12
7 FLYING SHADOW ** Will improve with racing and can include in exotics at odds. 20
8 MAGSTOCK *** Very much appreciates solid debut and subsequent good trial. Can win. 7.00
9 MY TOUCH * No. 100
10 NOVA LEGEND ** Improved enough at second start to follow with upgrade to blinkers from gate 1. 33
11 PERFECTLY ECLIPSE ** Improves on debut with extra distance in his favour. Value. 33
12 SPECIAL FORCE ** Best work late over 1000m suggests he is one to follow over this trip. Keep safe. 33

.

Race 3

Selections; 5 MR CONNERY – 1 PLATOON – 8 SWIFT – 3 SUNNY
As usual a tricky Class 4 race with an even field over two bends on the Poly. You could make a case – some at odds – for most but CONNERY looked stiff last start and can make amends in this similar affair. Rodd stays on and his form of late has been better than honest and he does look the benchmark. However, a Class dropper in PLATOON will make his presence felt throughout. His effort last start in Class 3 easily good enough for his with the experienced Alan Munro from gate 5 a good combination. For value, SWIFT looks a good option. Although only a two-time winner, SWIFT has shown more than enough at odds of late to follow and a switch to the Poly over 1700m could be exactly what he is after. Most others have a show but LIM’S BATTLE is gunning for a hat trick so must be respected with SINGSURAT also coming off a last start win. SUNNY the swooper.

1 PLATOON *** Did enough last start to follow in what is a very winnable grade. 4.00
2 SKY ELEVEN ** Returned a roarer last start and worth a look on previous form. 12
3 SUNNY *** Had support of late and does look due with this company to his liking. 6.00
4 COOL CUSTOMER ** Not a mile away last start at odds in similar affair and pay to keep safe. 20
5 MR CONNERY *** Excuses last start not to go very close to winning similar affair and gets his chance here. 3.50
6 LIM’S BATTLE *** Hard to fault winning for m in albeit easier company and pay to follow. 5.00
7 SINGSURAT ** Both career wins in Class 5 but has been competitive in this company and enjoys the Poly. Value. 8.00
8 SWIFT *** Has been flying under the radar and excellent work late suggests he gives this a shake. 12
9 OVER EASY ** Nearing Class 5 but will give a sight with no weight. 20

.

Race 4

Selections; 1 MIGHTY GLORY – 8 ONE MORE ACHIEVER – 5 MOLLY BROWNE – 3 RUM N RAISINS
Another tough one for punters with plenty of winning hopes. In saying that, MIGHTY GLORY is super honest and while he struggles to win, he is the one to beat here. He will race on the pace, which should suit the E Course, and Barend Vorster will give him every opportunity to knock in what would be only his second career win. Oddly, it may be a maiden who beats him. ONE MORE ACHIEVER has looked more than a handy conveyance at just three career starts and given 1400m and beyond look his caper, he could win this with Michael Rodd a good booking. As mentioned, most horses look some hope including COOL CAT and RUM AND RAISINS who both come off poor runs but are a show on previous good form in nice company. Throw in MOLLY BROWNE and PERFECT CHALLENGER who are both due with a blanket over the rest.

1 MIGHTY GLORY *** Just missed last start similar affair and hard to beat here. 3.50
2 COOL CAT ** Rising 10YO who very much appreciates the company and should figure late. 12
3 RUM N RAISINS *** Pay to ignore last start as previous form in Class 4 has him involved in this finish. 12
4 PERFECT CHALLENGER *** Looks due and a big show if course and race run to suit swoopers. 6.00
5 MOLLY BROWNE *** Continues to run on well with support and right in this if they can make use if age 1. 6.00
6 GET GOING ** Disappointing last couple but recent trial suggests he can improve. 20
7 LUCKY STRATEGY ** Coming off overdue Class 5 win and exotics look best in this field. 12
8 ONE MORE ACHIEVER *** Maiden but goes OK so can win this with extra 200m in his favour. 7.00
9 RAVOUX ** Hard to fault form and not without a chance with handy 3kg claim. 12
10 FUKU ICHIBAN ** Almost pinched it last start when ridden forward last start and could go close again. 20
11 GREAT BALLS OFFIRE ** Company and trip suitable so keep safe with value. 20
12 WINNING STAR ** Form better than it reads and another to watch at odds. 20

.

Race 5

Selections; 1 GO LANCE – 8 GOLD CROWN – 9 CHIPS – 4 HUMMING BIRD
Some obvious choices in GO LANCE and GOLD CROWN will be the two punters jump on in this maiden and all things considered, they should fight out the finish. GO LANCE went back last start when resuming and given his work to the line, he looks hard to beat here. We presume from gate 4 with the run under his belt that Rodd will take him to a forward position and he will look the winner late. GOLD CROWN just missed two starts back over this trip, track and company and his subsequent effort over a Poly mile was good enough to give this a serious shout. Two not so obvious choices that should provide value are CHIPS and HUMMINGBIRD. CHIPS in particular looked to have excuses last start and his work late suggests he has plenty more to offer with Rueven on board. HUMMINGBIRD has been slightly disappointing for those following him on trial form but a cheeky run is expected over 1400m. TOOBIGTOFAIL the other that keeps the two favorites’ honest.

1 GO LANCE *** Expect more forward run and very hard to beat. 2.00
2 JOY AND HAPPY ** Does find trouble but thereabouts a rule. 12
3 AMI ELEVEN ** Extremely disappointing last start but was even money two back so pay to keep safe. 50
4 HUMMING BIRD *** Step up to 1400m may suit and cheeky run expected. 12
5 DRAGON ROYAL * Saddle slipped last start but that could be the least of his problems. 100
6 MAGIC RANGER * No. 100
7 PARTIE ARTIE * May appreciate first-up run but easier to ignore. 50
8 GOLD CROWN *** Placed last start but close-up effort two back this trip and surface has him a winning hope. 3.50
9 CHIPS *** Plenty of excuses last start and work late suggests he could be due at value. 12
10 WHISPERINTHEWIND ** Form reads badly but recent trial OK and 1400m suits. 33
11 VICTORY * Has been disappointing. 50
12 TOOBIGTOFAIL *** Only two places from some 15 career starts but they were recent runs so must be respected. 7.00
13 SOUTHERN ADMIRAL * No. 100
14 POWER KING * No. 100

.

Race 6

Selections; 1 TIP OF BORNEO – 8 PUSAKA – 6 MR CLOONEY – 3 TEQUILA SHOT
An odd race with Laxon having three runners – TIP OF BORNEO, BORDEAUX and MR CLOONEY – and it may be the longest priced of the trio that is hardest to beat. That particular horse is TIP OF BORNEO and his form suggests he can lead and be hard to pass over 1800m. But given Kellady takes over from Powell, he might sneak out to back-able odds. Rodd stays on MR CLOONEY and while the 4YO is yet to place on the turf from three runs and his last start win was obviously on the Poly, he has to be respected. Plenty of other chances and TEQUILA SHOT has to respected on form with a good recent trial under his belt while PUSAKA for Stephen Gray might be the bolter after flying late last start and if he is within striking range when it counts, he can win. The race has depth so go very wide in any exotics combinations.

1 TIP OF BORNEO *** Not far away last start when on pace throughout at odds. Goes close. 10
2 PRINCE MAG ** Will work into this late if race run to suit. 8.00
3 TEQUILA SHOT *** Always a show in races like this and recent trial was eye-catching. 8.00
4 BORDEAUX ** Not a mile away last start similar affair and pay to include somewhere. 12
5 DRAGON ** Disappointing last start but will be running on. 20
6 MR CLOONEY *** Broke through last start on the Poly and may be a slight query on unplaced turf form. 4.00
7 THEBUZZDOWNUNDER ** Will find this company to his liking and another who should make his presence felt late. 12
8 PUSAKA *** Was flying late last start over 1400m and must be considered a winning show in this. 4.00
9 JIMTOWN ** Disappointing last start but usually thereabouts this type of race. 20
10 ZIPANGU ** Broke through last start in Class 5 and pay to respect. 20
11 GALAXY EXPRESS ** Out and out stayer who will keep them honest late. 12
12 BROTHER BAY ** Maiden and eligible for easier but going along OK. 20
13 ZAC BENEVOLENT ** Competitive on his day but may want easier. 33

.

Race 7

Selections; 3 MAJESTIC MOMENTS – 1 FRAAJILISTIC – 11 SEED OF SPEED – 5 ABSOLUTELY
As you would expect at this level, a very good field has been assembled including four who are first-up after running in the Emirates Singapore Derby in July 2015 and one, WALL STREET BOY, resuming after the 2014 Derby. However, it is a couple of in-form horses in FRAAJILISTIC and MAJESTIC MOMENTS who will get the punters attention. FRAAJILISTIC in particular looks in red-hot form after winning when resuming over 1200m. The 1400m looks ideal and the 5YO should be prominent throughout with R Shafiq to claim 1kg. Likewise, MAJESTIC MOMENTS is in spanking form and his last start win was a beauty. The 4YO had also been knocking about in some very good 3YO company last season and you would expect him to hard to beat in this race. Most others are involved on a good day but SPEED OF SEED will be on the pace throughout and ABSOLUTELY appreciates this company and 1400m. Great race.

1 FRAAJILISTIC *** Won well when resuming and step up to 1400m ideal. Hard to beat. 2.50
2 SIR LOVESALOT * Will be handy throughout but needs to lift on some recent efforts. 33
3 MAJESTIC MOMENTS *** Very progressive type who looks well placed here with nice recent trial a pointer. 3.00
4 WALL STREET BOY * Resuming after a long lay off and might just need the run. 33
5 ABSOLUTELY *** First-up after unplaced Derby run but last win was this trip in Group company so keep safe. 10
6 IDEAL GUIDE ** Form better than it reads given company he has been keeping and can include in exotics at odds. 20
7 KNIGHT WAGER ** Lightly raced 5YO who has ability and will add value to exotics. 20
8 SEBROSE ** Another potential top liner who is first up after a derby campaign. Keep safe. 12
9 METEOR MIKE ** Honest and always some show at odds in races like this. 20
10 HOT GOLD ** 1400m ideal and always worth thought in exotics. 20
11 SEED OF SPEED *** Will be on the speed throughout and could be some show from gate 1 at odds. 12
12 PURE TACTICS * Puts in the odd good turf run but prefer on the Poly. 33
13 VERGLATICA * Needs longer again. 100

.

Race 8

Selections; 6 MEAISIN – 13 ROSEGOLD – 11 DRAGON HIGHNESS – 12 RUN CHEETAH RUN
An extremely hard race to line up the form with some horses down in the rating likely to race well including the first emergency, ROSEGOLD. In fact the one-time winner could easily win this if he gets a start given he comes off a solid run. But more importantly he gets blinkers for the first time and a recent trial with head-gear suggests he appreciates the upgrade from winkers and could value. But as its stands, MEAISIN looks the benchmark and should be prominent throughout with Harry Kassim up. The 8YO looked to have excuses last start over 1200m and this looks ideal. Also in the winning mix is a maiden in DRAGON HIGHNESS resuming for a new stable. The 4YO looks a handy enough type and the change in scenery coupled with some nice recent trials could do the trick. It was hard to leave out BRAHMS AND LISZT but he has been costly for followers with RUN CHEETAH RUN, EXCELLENT MAGIC and JUST NAME IT all winning hopes as well.

1 FAST EDITION ** Appreciates easier company and look for a better run with Rodd from gate 3. 12
2 BRAHMS AND LISZT *** Needs to win more with the support he gets but appreciates company and must go close. 4.00
3 ENLIGHTEN KNIGHT ** Yet to place in Singapore but only win in NZ was this trip so look for improvement. 20
4 LA FONTANA ** Not far away two starts back similar affair but better option on the Poly. 20
5 LION WAVE * Lost rider last start but previous form ordinary. 100
6 MEAISIN *** In very solid form and extra 200m looks ideal. Hard to beat. 6.00
7 TENMA ** Broke maiden status last start this trip but will get back and need race/track to suit swoopers. 6.00
8 EXCELLENT MAGIC *** Just missed last start similar affair and goes very close in this. 10
9 JUST NAME IT *** Gets blinkers after disappointing effort last start but have to keep safe. 12
10 STARPERFECT ** Trip suits and another that will be working home late. 20
11 DRAGON HIGHNESS *** Maiden resuming but recent trials and previous form suggest he is up to this. 8.00
12 RUN CHEETAH RUN *** Drawn awkwardly but has been supported of late and this race suits. 6.00
13 ROSEGOLD *** Showed enough last start to think he goes close here with upgrade to blinkers. 12
14 LIVE WELL * Needs easier than this. 50

.

Race 9

Selections; 2 LAUGHING GRAVY – 9 POSEIDON – 1 CHASE – 11 GILT COMPLEX
A great race to finish what should have been a good nights racing and hopefully LAUGHING GRAVY is fresh enough to win over 1400m. The 5YO had a consistent first campaign in Singapore winning once and placing four times from five starts and given the short spell should have done him more good than bad, he can win first up. In his favour – and it will pay to keep an eye on the earlier turf races on the card – is that he will race on the pace and that could be crucial to his chances over 1400m. It’s hard to fault POSEIDON’S form though. The 4YO has won twice and is yet to miss a place from eight career starts and again, he races handy and will be prominent throughout. If a swooper does win it will be the class horse in the race – CHASE – who ran a beauty first-up and is suited by the extra 200m. Throw in the promising GILT COMPLEX and RUSTY BROWN and go even wider in exotics.

1 CHASE *** Excellent effort when resuming over 1200m and will be flying late in this. 3.00
2 LAUGHING GRAVY *** Freshened after a terrific campaign and will be on the speed throughout. 6.00
3 OM ** Blinkers to visor but appreciates turf and always some show late. 20
4 RUSTY BROWN *** Ignore last start where he had plenty of excuses and in this a very long way. 12
5 FELICHE * Former Argentinean who might be better suited over longer. Watch market. 20
6 NORTHERN BOSS ** Showed last start he handles the turf in this company and worth keeping safe. 20
7 PRECIOUS GEM * Appreciates first up run but will need longer again. 33
8 DANGER ZONE * Issues last start but will want longer than this. 50
9 POSEIDON *** Progressive and honest type who has shown more than enough to think he handles this company. 5.00
10 CONSTANCE’S SPIRIT ** Will work into this last but two career wins have been on the Poly. 12
11 GILT COMPLEX *** Backed up solid debut with nice aide win and pay to follow with no weight. 6.00

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
