Raise No Doubt wins in Singapore on 09-03-14

Some very progressive types in Raise No Doubt, Peace No War & Dragon Dynasty make race 6 on the card one not to be missed with punters likely to flock to all three horses.

RAISE NO DOUBT – a winner of three races from seven Singapore starts – looks destined for better races than this and with 53kg and Alan Munro up, he could take some beating back on what could be his preferred surface.

PEACE NO WAR has five wins to his name from 14 career starts and connections will be hoping he adds to that total after finding only one better at his last three starts. And while we can’t leave out the likes of MYCAPTAINOBLIVIOUS, DARCI CHARMER and METEOR MIKE resuming, it may be DRAGON DYNASTY who they all have to beat. The former Malaysian had one sighter in Singapore before two strong wins and with a 3kg claim so just 53.5kg to carry, he looks a huge show to knock in a hat-trick of wins.

Elsewhere on the card a maiden in POSEIDON could be one of the better win bets of the night. The NZ-bred 3YO by Gold Centre has looked more than handy placing at two career starts thus far but a recent trial with blinkers added was excellent and he should win on that effort and head-gear on for race day.

He will be short but there is value elsewhere on the card with TIME AFTER TIME (race 1) and ACROSS THE SEA (race 4) just two to watch at likely each-way odds. A reminder that there is only eight races on Fridays card so make sure you get your exotic bets on early.

Race 1

Selections; 5 TIME AFTER TIME – 1 SUPER CAPTAIN – 8 ZAC GALLANT – 2 RORY
No world beaters in the first and only three or four with genuine winning hopes. Three usual suspects in weak Class 5 Poly sprints in SUPER CAPTAIN, RORY and ZAC GALLANT will get most of the punters attention which could mean some each-way value for our top pick, TIME AFTER TIME. The 4YO broke his maiden status in this company over 1200m two runs back before failing over the mile at his most recent outing. An eye-catching trial since that run has him well and truly under notice over this trip and he should be value. Not much separates the other three mentioned with RORY likely to take SUPER CAPTAIN into a nice position from the wide gate and Nunes staying on-board the maiden ZAC GALLANT a pointer to his chances. Not much else to get excited about but keep BENGLIAM safe in exotics at long odds as he could improve on a recent trial effort.

1 SUPER CAPTAIN *** Excuses last start (lame) and right in this on previous good form. 4.00
2 RORY *** Ignore last start in unsuitable affair and plays a prominent roll over 1000m. 5.00
3 BENGLIAM ** Resuming sans blinkers and while impossible on form his recent trial suggests he may improve at long odds. 50
4 PETITE VICTOIRE * Resuming and should have been doing better in this company. 33
5 TIME AFTER TIME *** Drops back in trip and recent smart trial suggests he gives this a shake at value. 12
6 BIG BANG KING ** Tongue-tie added after issues last start and pay to keep safe in exotics. 20
7 CLEVER BRIGHT * Maiden who could work into this late but realistically needs further. 20
8 ZAC GALLANT *** Twenty start maiden but looks due and should figure in the finish. 3.00
9 MAGIC DIVA * Showed nothing last start. 33
10 QUALITASE * A long time between drinks. 33
11 DIAMOND ON THE BAY ** Long-term maiden but coming off an OK placing so worth a look in exotics. 12
12 SARAWI ** Wont win out of turn but thereabouts as a rule. 8.00
13 FOUNTAIN ** Not a mile away last start and pay to include somewhere. 12
14 SMART CHOICE * Battles on but yet to place at some 22 starts. 33

Race 2

Selections; 9 WHISPERINTHEWIND – 1 HEE’S EGO – 2 SUPER EIGHT – 5 FLYING WINNER
With the old adage “where there’s smoke there’s fire” ringing in our ears, WHISPERINTHEWIND gets the nod in what looks a Restricted Maiden with little depth. The AD VALOREM 3YO is a risk though after failing badly at his race debut where he jumped as the odds-on favourite. He wore blinkers that day and after a change of stables the head-gear is removed. Obviously the horse has ability given the support on debut it will pay to follow. Brown rides for Gray and as mentioned, the race doesn’t have a lot of depth so he gets his chance. Likewise HEE’S EGO looks due and blinkers added might be just what he needs over this trip to win. Nunes goes back on and the 3YO does look like he will improve with race experience. SUPER EIGHT resumes with a nice trial under his belt and is a winning show on what he showed at his first campaign and a market watch for the rest.

1 HEE’S EGO *** Gets blinkers first-time and improves with race experience. Big show. 3.00
2 SUPER EIGHT *** Resuming. Trialling well and could show up fresh with winkers off. Watch for support. 3.50
3 HANDSOME BAB * Plenty of excuses last start but may want longer than this. 100
4 COURT ACHIEVER ** Looked comfortable at trials but would like to see support before following. 12
5 FLYING WINNER ** Home OK late last start suggesting extra distance will suit. Value. 20
6 FOREVER NICE ** Another debutante that has looked comfortable at Official trials and could show up. 12
7 GENERAL ZOD * Should improve for debut run but hard to have on that effort. 33
8 RAHUL ** Got home OK on debut and worth some thought although may need longer than this. 20
9 WHISPERINTHEWIND *** Blinkers off and changed stables after disappointing with heavy support on debut. Keep very safe. 3.00
10 DARSHANA ** Never looked comfortable on debut and worth a look on some OK trials. 25

.

Race 3

Selections; 3 PRECIOUS GEM – 4 STARPERFECT – 1 BORSALINO – 2 SUPER VICTORY
A tricky race for punters with plenty of winning hopes over 2000m and obviously tactics on the E Course will play a big part. Especially given most of the top hopes will need the race run to suit back-markers and it may be up to the likes of SUPER VICTORY and OVER EASY to set the pace. OVER EASY comes off a shocker but should make his presence felt here and SUPER VICTORY looks most likely to be the one the swoopers have to pass late to win. Of those who will be closing, PRECIOUS GEM had plenty of excuses not to win last start and gets his chance here. Brown again rides for Gray and the colourful pair could combine for a big night. STARPERFECT just missed lats start stepping up to the mile and the extra 400m today is definitely in his favour. BORSALINO and PRINCE MAG two others that can win without surprising in a race with depth.

1 BORSALINO *** Form reads badly but finds himself over right trip in right Class. Big show. 12
2 SUPER VICTORY *** Usually in the mix and should figure prominently throughout. 12
3 PRECIOUS GEM *** Excuses last start and looks a huge winning show on recent form. 3.00
4 STARPERFECT *** Showed last start that he wins very soon in Singapore as he steps up in distance. Big show. 5.00
5 PRINCE MAG *** Out-and-out stayer who will make his presence felt late. 8.00
6 OVER EASY ** Might pay to ignore last start where he had excuses and keep safe on recent winning form. 20
7 ANOTHER SON * Struggled since maiden win. 50
8 PINYIN ** Will be battling away late but best form is on the Poly. 20
9 RISING TIDE ** Won over the mile in maiden company last start but gives every indication he will stay like the mother-in-law so keep safe. 8.00
10 CITY OF KIRKWALL ** PLaced last start and might improve again back on the turf. 8.00
11 DRAPPIER * Easier to ignore. 100
12 GALAXY EXPRESS ** Will need easier to win but trip suits and will add value to exotics. 12

.

Race 4

Selections; 10 ACROSS THE SEA – 1 HEE’S A MAVERICK – 2 LA FONTANA – 6 NO SMOKING JEFF
Goodness knows how this race pans out with plenty ready to show their best stepping up to the mile and again, the horses on the pace could be hard to run over on the E Course (short). Those in form that will race handy include LA FONTANA who will be prominent throughout with Barend Vorster up. Interestingly Pat Shaw also has a horse that will be closing late in SUPER JOE so expect a solid pace regardless. But taking a form line through a recent 1400m Restricted Maiden, HEE’S A MAVERICK and ACROSS THE SEA come under notice after finishing second and fourth behind Great Sun respectively. Of the two, ACROSS THE SEA has some upside given that run was his debut and the mile should be prefect. Plenty of others can win without surprising and take your pick from NO SMOKING JEFF, SINGSURAT, ZEN ZERO and HAN SOLO the bolter.

1 HEE’S A MAVERICK *** Due to knock in his maiden win and the mile looks ideal. 4.00
2 LA FONTANA *** Placed this trip last start and could be hard to pass late. 5.00
3 SUPER JOE *** Will be running on late and hard to hold out if race and track suits swoopers. 6.00
4 PERCIUS ** Always runs on so mile should suit. Keep safe. 12
5 MATA MATA * Yet to show his best. 33
6 NO SMOKING JEFF *** Has shown glimpses and step up to the mile could see a result. 10
7 SINGSURAT *** Disappointing last start with support but worth another looks with slight gear change. 7.00
8 ZENZERO *** Form reads in-and-out but has gone very close this trip previously and gets Nunes from the ace. 6.00
9 HAN SOLO ** Will make the pace and that could count for plenty this track. 11
10 ACROSS THE SEA *** Made an auspicious debut at odds over 1400m and looks a winning hope on that effort. 20
11 MEGABUCKS * Prefer to watch on what we saw on debut. 50

Race 5

Selections; 1 GALLANT HEIGHTS – 6 ANGE D’ORIENT – 8 ANY CHOICE – 3 NOVEMBER SUCCESS
This could get ugly given most are out-and-out battlers and it may be a slow slog late. GALLANT HEIGHTS has the best recent form and heads the ratings so looks the obvious choice. Troy see and his 3kg claim stay on and the three-time winner certainly looks the benchmark in what is a weak field. Also in his favour is the fact that his two main dangers – ANGE D’ORIENT and ANY CHOICE are way down in the rating. But ANGE D’ORIENT is in form and has to be respected with Harry Kassim up and while ANY CHOICE has only placed once from some 16 starts, it was at his most recent run and he has trailed well since. Throw the blanket over the rest but NOVEMBER RAIN does look to enjoy the turf and trip.

1 GALLANT HEIGHTS *** In-form and showed recently he handles the turf so a big show. 3.00
2 CAN’T TOUCH ME ** Been hard to follow of late but could easily show his best. 12
3 NOVEMBER SUCCESS ** Turf and trip suits so can include in exotics at value. 20
4 SHENZHOU ONE ** On the quick-back up but that could be a good thing this trip. 20
5 WINNING SUCCESS ** Can run a cheeky race so the type to keep safe at value. 20
6 ANGE D’ORIENT *** Doesn’t win out of turn but looks due with light weight. 3.00
7 KTRONIC ** In-and-out of late but goes close on a good day. 12
8 ANY CHOICE *** Freshened by good recent trial after career best run and gets Nunes. Watch. 6.00
9 HONKYTONK MAN ** Appreciates first-up run and could place at value. 20
10 SUPER VELOX ** Fifty eight starts without winning but in the exotic mix. 10

.

Race 6

Selections; 2 DRAGON DYNASTY – 6 RAISE NO DOUBT – 3 PEACE NO WAR – 4 MYCAPTAINOBLIVIOUS
A small but exciting field heads to the start for what is the best race of the meeting. But while METEOR MIKE is as honest as the day is long and DARCI CHARMER is a progressive type, the three horses that will get the punters interest are DRAGON DYNASTY, PEACE NO WAR and RAISE NO DOUBT. Of the trio, there was a lot to like about DRAGON DYNASTY and happy to follow the former Malaysian and he looks for three straight Singapore wins. The two wins have been impressive and given Brian Dean has opted for a 3kg claimer to replace Dan Beasley, he looks extremely well in with only 53.5kg to carry. RAISE NO DOUBT has looked top-class on occasion and didn’t miss by much last start. He also looks well-placed with 53kg and Alan Munro up. PEACE NO WAR the benchmark and the race promises to be a cracker.

1 METEOR MIKE ** Resuming after long spell and always gives his best so have to respect. 12
2 DRAGON DYNASTY *** Hit the ground running in Singapore and recent trial suggests he can go on with the job here. 4.00
3 PEACE NO WAR *** Resuming after a good run of form and recent smart trial suggests he can win first-up. 3.00
4 MYCAPTAINOBLIVIOUS ** Resuming after bleeding attacked and should go close if at his best. 6.00
5 DARCI CHARMER ** Progressive type who knows how to win so keep very safe. 6.00
6 RAISE NO DOUBT *** Another very progressive type who could appreciate being back on the turf. Goes close. 3.50
7 ABASTOR * Looks out of his depth. 100

.

Race 7

Selections; 10 POSEIDON – 4 APPELLATION – 5 BRAVO CHARLIE – 8 COMONBABY
A maiden late on the card but this could be a big betting race if the big punters jump on the POSEIDON bandwagon. His two runs suggest he wins one soon but more importantly his recent trial with blinkers suggests he could just go “woosh” with head-gear added. In his favour is that nothing else jumps off the page to beat him although plenty improve stepping up to 1400m with race experience under their belt. COMONBABY is one such horse who appreciates a solid debut and the extra 400m and is well worth a look at value while APPELLATION and BRAVO CHARLIE are both in form and looks well placed over 1400m. BROTHER BAY another who goes best this trip and a market watch over the rest.

1 AGUERO * Improves for debut run and 1400m should suit. 33
2 BROTHER BAY *** Last start OK and best runs have been over this trip so keep very safe. 12
3 DESERT STAR * Blinkers on after big issues on debut but only for the brave. 33
4 APPELLATION *** Improved with racing and step up in trip and ready to show up. 6.00
5 BRAVO CHARLIE *** Blinkers off and form suggests he is in this a very long way. 8.00
6 ABOVE THE SKYLINE ** Another who improves for race experience stepping up in trip. 20
7 ARCTIC ROLL ** Debut ordinary but recent trial suggests he improves. 20
8 COMONBABY *** Improves on what was a solid debut and well worth a look at value. 12
9 GO LANCE * Will improve with racing but wide gate makes this tough. 33
10 POSEIDON *** Blinkers added after two good runs and recent strong trial suggests he is the one to beat. 1.80
11 ROYAL STORM * Might need further again. 33
12 WOLVERINE ** Excuses on debut not to finish close and worth some thought at value. 20
13 LUCKY SIX ** Should have more to offer so worth one more look back in maiden company at odds. 50
14 SUPER FIVE * Resuming sans blinkers. No. 200

.

Race 8

Selections; 5 WOW – 3 SING ROULETTE – 1 LOUEY VELOCE – 2 NORTHERN BOSS
It will be interesting to see just who leads into the first bend in this Class 4 sprint with the three fancies – LOUEY VELOCE, SING ROULETTE and WOW – all happy to race on the pace. WOW has drawn the widest but John Powell will likely push forward and hopefully find some clear air out front. If he does get a breather at any stage he could be hard to run down. He is coming off a bad run but he had excuses that day not to finish closer as did SING ROULETTE who also could also lead in this. He also has a nice trial under his belt and has to be a show on what he showed winning on debut. The punters elect might be LOUEY VELOCE who only just got run down at his Singapore debut with Michael Freedman opting for what looks a smart 2kg Zuriman claim. NORTHERN BOSS the other that can win and while you can almost forget the rest, FRANCES fresh might be running on and MY SAPPHIRE could be the bolter at long odds.

1 LOUEY VELOCE *** Just missed at Singapore debut as the even money fave and can make amends with handy claim. 2.50
2 NORTHERN BOSS *** Progressive type who gets a chance to add to his early win tally. 4.00
3 SING ROULETTE *** Excuses last start so happy to forget and take on strong recent trial. 6.00
4 CASH DOT COM * Easier to ignore. 33
5 WOW *** Pay to ignore last start and will be in this for a very long way. 4.00
6 MY SAPPHIRE ** Form better than it reads and one to watch at long odds from gate 3. 33
7 DRAGON PERK * Resuming and might need longer. 33
8 STAGE BRIGHT * No. 200
9 DRAGON NINETYNINE * Not the worst but needs easier. 100
10 FRANCES ** Resuming and could provide value for exotics with no weight. 12
11 ROSADO * Needs longer and easier. 33

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
