Singapore Racing – Friday

SmilesWithHisEyes

While things get very serious on the track with Group racing for the 3YO’s on Sunday, Fridays card has more than enough on offer to keep punters well and truly interested. Early on in the card, a promising 4YO stayer in SMILESWITHHISEYES looks ready to knock in his first win in Singapore. The Irish-bred gelding arrived in Singapore with two UK wins under his belt and given what he has showed at three Singapore starts, he can add to that tally in race 4, a Class 4 event over 1700m. The field does have depth – most look to have some hope on paper – but with an upgrade to blinkers and leading hoop, Manoel Nunes on-board, SMILESWITHHISEYES should have every chance. Elsewhere on the card, the aptly named HAPPY MONEY (race 6) and the even more aptly named, SURE WIN (race 9), can both salute for favourite backers. HAPPY MONEY is on-fire coming into this race with three wins on the trot and trainer HW Tan looks to have found a very light-on Class 3 sprint over 1100m to make it four. Likewise, trainer Michael Freedman has found a very winnable race for SURE WIN to continue the good start to his career and while punters will be wary after he was beaten as the odds-on favourite at his last start, he is hard to beat if right. He did have excuses on that occasion – he returned a roarer – and can make quick amends for followers and looks a good banker in the lucky last.

.

Best Bets; (HAPPY MONEY race 6, win), (SURE WIN race 9, win) and (THE RUDE WARRIOR race 8, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (2), race 7 (Field), race 8 (Field), race 9 (4).

Race 1

Selections; 2 BLOSSOMS SEQUEL – 4 JET COSMO – 8 SUI GENERIS – 1 MINI BOSS
A Maiden over 1700m starts the all polytrack programme. Most of these have been trying for some time, though the 3YO JET COSMO has been more consistent than most. He just missed in maiden company over a mile two starts back, the tongue-tie comes off and if Sundradas John keeps him handy, he should be hard to beat. BLOSSOMS SEQUEL was held up and ran on well in the same race JET COSMO ran second; from the ace Ivaldo Santana should give him every chance. SUI GENERIS was placed over 1400m on turf last outing and at his most recent poly start he led and ran 4th over this trip in Class 5; from the good gate with Davey Flores up, he could give a sight. MINI BOSS is a staying-bred NH 4YO by Street Sense and after three starts over unsuitable distances he gets Alan Munro and 1700m so watch for support. In what is a pretty ordinary affair, PUZZLE and SPARKLING STAR up to 1700m could show up.

1 MINI BOSS *** NH-bred 4YO getting up to a suitable trip and with Munro up should race well. Watch for support. 6.50
2 BLOSSOMS SEQUEL *** Stepped up to mile last start, was held up and ran on well. Suited at 1700m and helped by the ace draw. 4.00
3 PUZZLE ** Battled on in Class 5 last start over a mile. First poly start and bred to stay. 12
4 JET COSMO *** Tongue tie off. Regularly around the mark and just missed over a mile two starts back. Should race well. 3.50
5 RISING AHEAD * Winkers on. Works well but yet to show up in races. On trial at 1700m. 20
6 LIVE WELL * Best effort was on turf. Stepping up in distance and could be suited. 20
7 SPARKLING STAR ** Placed in weak race over 1400m last start. Stepping up in distance and best efforts have been on turf. Could show up. 10
8 SUI GENERIS *** Winkers on. Placed in a weak 1400m affair last start on turf. Led and ran fourth at only poly start at 1700m. Should give a sight from the gate. 6.00
9 STYLISH LAD * Only battles and needs to improve. 25
10 DIAMONDDASH * Stepping up in trip but could be suited if forgiven for last poor effort. 16
11 SOARING WIN * Has put in a couple of reasonable efforts lately over shorter journeys. On trial at 1700m. 16

.

Race 2

Selections; 7 GOOD MUMMY – 6 ZEDKAAR – 2 PANAMA CITY – 10 SEBROSE
Of those we have seen in this Initiation over 1200m, the most promising look to be ZEDKAAR and GOOD MUMMY. ZEDKAAR has put in good efforts at his only two starts and produced a solid recent trial. Young Kif Toh gets aboard and from the ace with the 4kg claim, he should be handy all the way. GOOD MUMMY raced well over 1400m last start, he looks well suited on the poly and with John Powell in red-hot form, should race well. PANAMA CITY had excuses last start and if Flores can get any sort of run from a wide gate, he should be in the mix. There are a pair of very interesting newcomers; SEBROSE is by Sebring out of the good mare Bramble Rose – dam of the quality middle-distance horse MAULES CREEK. He trialed well enough behind the flying PETRENUI recently and with Manoel Nunes to ride, should make a good debut. LESOTHO PROMISE is another useful type, a full-brother to a good Kiwi middle-distance horse ADALINE -he too could debut well. ORIGIN FAST is resuming, she has speed and could give a sight. PRECIOUS GEM and LADY ROULETTE are also chances in a watch the market race.

1 PRECIOUS GEM *** Raced well at only two outings and may be better on the poly. Should race well. 10
2 PANAMA CITY *** Blinkers off. Has ability but finds trouble which was very costly last start. Switch to senior rider and poly helps. Wide alley a challenge. 12
3 FANTASTIC WARRIOR * Yet to show up. 50
4 LUTONG GARDEN * Done nothing to date. 50
5 ON TWISTTER * Showed some speed at first start and caught wide last outing but needs to improve. 33
6 ZEDKAAR *** Good efforts at only two starts and solid recent trial. Should race well from the ace with 4kg claim. 3.50
7 GOOD MUMMY *** Good effort over 1400m last start. Looks well suited on poly and should race well. 4.00
8 ASSERTIVE LAD * First start. Tongue tie on. By Elusive Quality. Half-bro to HK middle distance battler COOL BEAN. 20
9 LESOTHO PROMISE *** First start. Trials well, brother to NZ middle-distance group winner ADALINE. Watch for support. 10
10 SEBROSE *** Winkers on. First start. Ran reasonable time in recent trial behind the flying PETRENUI. Half-bro to MAULES CREEK. Should debut well. 5.50
11 ORIGIN FAST ** Resuming Has speed and should give a sight. 10
12 LADY ROULETTE ** Nice effort on debut. Showed speed and should be handy from the good gate. 12

.

Race 3

Selections; 2 SMILESWITHHISEYES – 3 GOLDEN LARK – 4 GREEN JACKET – 1 CLUTHA LAD
A Class 4 over 1700m with seven of the nine runners having decent chances. Tempo could be an issue and hopefully GINSENG or maybe SOUTH GATE will go forward and set a pace. SMILESWITHHISEYES was checked last start and ran on well over the mile, the winkers are upgraded to blinkers, with Manoel Nunes taking over from Noh Senari, he is well suited in this and should be hard to hold out. The stablemate CLUTHA LAD disappointed last start but he is a winner at this trip and from the good alley, should behandy all the way. GOLDEN LARK is honest and due so looks a terrific each-way show as  is GREEN JACKET who showed last start that he can break his Polytrack duck soon. Of the rest, TWIST OLIVER broke through last start over a mile and is a horse on the way up, the veteran PHANTOM KNIGHT will be running on late and GINSENG has had excuses at both Singapore starts and will be value.

1 CLUTHA LAD *** Just battled last start but has won at this trip and should race well from the ace. 4.00
2 SMILESWITHHISEYES *** Winkers to blinkers. Checked last start and ran on well over the mile. Better suited in this and gets senior rider. 3.00
3 GOLDEN LARK *** Suited this grade and runs on well. Will appreciate the claim and can win. 8.00
4 GREEN JACKET *** Yet to win on the poly but showed last start he goes very close here. 8.00
5 PHANTOM KNIGHT ** Veteran suited this grade. Just missed over 1800m last start and will be running on late. 8.00
6 SOUTH GATE ** Won his first race in a long time two starts back. May elect to set the speed in this. 10
7 GINSENG ** Blinkers off after having excuses at two Singapore starts. Can improve at value. 33
8 TWIST OLIVER *** Broke through last start. This is harder but suited at the trip. 5.00
9 GOLDEN DRAGON * Outclassed. 100

.

Race 4

Selections; 2 HOFBURG PALACE – 4 MARCUSINO – 3 ACOUSTIC – 6 FINAL COUNTDOWN
A KSD over 1200m and amongst a bunch of moody ones, HOFBURG PALACE stands out for his consistency alone. The 3YO is resuming since changing stables and while he is poorly drawn, he has Manoel Nunes and if he can get him across he may be too speedy. ACOUSTIC has had two runs on the turf since arriving from Australia, his only win was on the synthetic at Geelong and with Oscar Chavez to steer he could be the value in this – watch for support. FINAL COUNTDOWN is racing with some consistency and John Powell should give him every chance. Amongst the moody fellows MARCUSINO found the mile too far last time but the blinkers go on and he trialed well recently, SAVAGE STORM could win if he is prepared to do his best and SUPERMART can put in a big run from time to time. GOOD BUDDY as usual is a strong chance not to win but finish in the top four.

1 DAAD’S THE WAY * Old boy who will run on but will find this too short. 33
2 HOFBURG PALACE *** Resuming after changing stables. Placed at only poly start and should race well despite wide draw. 4.00
3 ACOUSTIC *** Only win was on synthetic at Geelong. Has had two turf outings and should race well in this. Watch for support. 5.00
4 MARCUSINO ** Blinkers on and trialed well recently. Found mile too far last start. Has won once with headgear on turf but is moody and best taken on trust. 8.00
5 SAVAGE STORM ** Ran on strongly to win for Oscar Chavez last start. Top apprentice takes over but is very difficult to follow. 8.00
6 FINAL COUNTDOWN *** Won in Class 5 three starts back and subsequent efforts have been sound. Should be competitive again. 5.50
7 SUPERMART ** Strong effort last start and whilst he is hard to follow, does have a good turn of foot late. 8.00
8 GOOD BUDDY ** Professional place-getter who will be in the mix once again. 9.00
9 RAVOUX * Blinkers on. Useful type but only wins have been on turf. 25
10 GALAXY EXPRESS * Decent effort when resuming in Novice Class but only win was on turf and wants longer than this. 20
11 BIDABULL * Maiden, eligible for easier. 33
12 GOLDEN KNIGHT ** Maiden whose two runs since resuming have been good and have to include in exotics. 33
13 ONEPLUSZERO ONE * Resuming but wants longer and Class 5. 33
14 HUMOR TOWN ** Showed last start he is more than competitive on his day. 20

.

Race 5

Selections; 3 WEOWNA FLYER – 6 FOREIGN EXCHANGE – 2 OVER EASY – 4 SEASONS WONDER
A reasonable quality Class 5 over a mile with, as usual, many chances. WEOWNA FLYER is consistent in this grade, he has been racing in KSD class and Manoel Nunes has won on him before; he will have him closing late. FOREIGN EXCHANGE has been running on in similar races and did not miss by much over 1600m last start; Rueven stays on and he should be in the finish again. SEASON’S WONDER has been caught wide at his past couple of outings the blinkers go on and if Shafiq can give him a trip with cover he will be hard to hold out. CAN’T TOUCH ME is better on turf but does have a win on the poly and is now up to a suitable distance. OVER EASY is the interesting runner. He will enjoy being in Class 5, his last win was in Class 4 over 1700m on the poly wearing blinkers. Steven Burridge has gone for winkers and pacifiers in this and he should show improvement on his recent efforts. GYPSY STAR bolted in three starts back over 1200m and the two subsequent runs have been good, she does have a win at a mile and with Oscar Chavez up, could surprise. TIGER TZAR resuming is worth a market watch.

1 CAN’T TOUCH ME ** Better on turf but has won on the poly and will find this more suitable than most recent run. Won at this trip four starts back on turf. 10
2 OVER EASY *** Winkers and Pacifiers on. Last win was over 1700m on poly wearing blinkers. Will enjoy being in Class 5. 5.00
3 WEOWNA FLYER *** Down from KSD and goes well for Manoel Nunes. Consistent and will be closing late. 4.50
4 SEASONS WONDER *** Blinkers on. Has been caught wide at his past couple over longer. With a better trip will be hard to hold out. 5.00
5 TIGER TZAR ** Pacifiers off, tongue tie on. Maiden resuming. Showed some promise last time in but this is a tough Class 5. Watch for support. 10
6 FOREIGN EXCHANGE *** Has been running on in similar races and did not miss by much over 1600m last start. Should be in the finish again. 5.00
7 RADIANT ROI * Battles away but this might be too hard. 33
8 BROWNE’S ANATOMY * One-paced and may need easier. 25
9 ROMA ** Maiden mare who has been close up at past three starts in weak company. Will lead and could show up again. 14
10 ANY CHOICE * Blinkers on but may need more than that. 50
11 GYPSY STAR ** Bolted in three starts back over 1200m and two subsequent efforts sound. Has won at 1600m and could show up. 14
12 REAL GOODMAN * Blinkers off. Not the most reliable but has no weight and could get in the mix. 25
13 RICH BORN * Placed in a weak Class 5 a week ago. Will probably lead if he gets a start. 20
14 GOLDEN ROSEWOOD * Only wins have been on turf but will battle away if he gets a start. 33

.

Race 6

Selections; 2 HAPPY MONEY – 5 SHIPPING FORECAST – 4 VERTICAL START – 1 DOUBLE STAR
Not an overly strong Class 3 sprint and as such, a horse that looked to have every chance last start and was disappointing – DOUBLE STAR – might be worth another look with a tongue-tie added. But he is a risk so while up in Class, it’s hard to fault the form of HAPPY MONEY who has been on-fire of late and could be very hard to beat. As mentioned, the race is not overly strong for a Class 3 and the progressive 3YO will get support to make it fourin- a-row. Of the rest, SHIPPING FORECAST is better than he showed last start with the hoop suggesting he improves for the first-up run and worth keeping one eye on the tote as at his best, he goes close. VERTICAL START looks in just fair form but has winkers added and is back in trip – he might be worth a look at odds with DUTY FREE the closer if race run to suit swoopers.

1 DOUBLE STAR *** Tongue-tie added after looking to have every chance last start and have to take on trust. 4.00
2 HAPPY MONEY *** Just winning too well not to think he is up to this Class. 2.50
3 HARDEN UP * Appreciates first run in Singapore but like to see improvement before considering. 12
4 VERTICAL START ** Form reads badly and back in trip but worth thought with winkers added. 6.50
5 SHIPPING FORECAST *** Showed no interest when resuming but will benefit from the run. Keep safe. 5.00
6 WHITE COFFEE * Like to see in easier company. 33
7 DUTY FREE ** Will be closing late and worth an each-way look. 6.00
8 KNIGHT SPIRIT * Reassess easier and over longer. 50

.

Race 7

Selections; 2 D’ARTAGNAN – 5 LUCKY DAPPER – 4 LUCKY COME – 9 CAPTAIN MCCAW
This race looks extremely tough for punters and you could seriously make a case for most of the runners with a lot depending on the pace of the race with some handy swoopers involved. D’ARTAGNAN showed enough when backing up a his maiden win in this company to think he goes close. S Noh stays on-board and from gate three he should get a few favours and figure heavily throughout. Two horses that are overdue – LUCKY DAPPER and CAPTAIN MCCAW – pick themselves on form but both having only one win to their names in a worry. But Munro has had a couple of sighters on the 4YO and expect him to again be thereabouts at the business end. Of the closers, LUCKY COME and AGENAIS both look very well placed in KSD company and if the race is set up for back-markers, they will grow wings late. SOLID WOOD is flying and hard to leave out with a special mention to DREAMCATCHER who is better than what he has shown of late and ALL MY WAY might run a very cheeky race from the ace.

1 SOLID WOOD *** Just racing too well not to be a big show again. 7.00
2 D’ARTAGNAN *** Backed-up good maiden win with a strong effort this company and can win. 4.00
3 DREAMCATCHER *** Not a lot last start but will win in this company so pay to keep safe. 20
4 LUCKY COME *** Very much appreciates KSD company and wide gate not a concern as will be working into this late. Big show. 12
5 LUCKY DAPPER *** Just doesn’t win enough to pick on top but right in this. 4.00
6 AGENAIS *** Another who will get back and run on very well so worth some though in KSD company. 33
7 PALOMBARO * Struggling. 50
8 ALL MY WAY *** Was backed and placed this company three starts back and pay to follow. 7.00
9 CAPTAIN MCCAW *** Another who always looks a winning hope but desperate for a result. 6.00
10 JET MAN ** The type that could pinch one at odds from gate one. 33
11 JUST A MAN ** Won well in Class 5 but wide gate a concern. 12
12 DANGER MONEY ** Competitive last start this company and will add value to exotics. 20
13 GRAND VITESS * Better on turf and easier. 50
14 MAGICAL SUNSET * Competitive on a good day but like to see in Class 5. 50

.

Race 8

Selections; 1 THE RUDE WARRIOR – 2 ILUMINADO – 3 MR ARMSTRONG – 5 ONE RAR
Some very nice horses in this Class 3 and while there are a couple of progressive types in MR ARMSTRONG and SPRING THUNDER who definitely come under notice, it is some hardened Poly stayers in THE RUDE WARRIOR and ILUMINADO that appeal. THE RUDE WARRIOR very much appreciates the drop to Class 3 and more importantly, gets over a suitable trip and surface. The fact he placed four starts back in Group Poly company, has a 3kg claimer on-board and comes into this with a nice recent trial under his belt, all bodes well for a big run. ILUMINADO also has a 3kg claimer and finds himself in a suitable race with a nice gate; he improves with his good work late at his most recent start having him under notice. But as mentioned, MR ARMSTRONG is a very progressive type and his last start win was very good so he can win without surprising as can ONE RAR, SPRING THUNDER and REIDEL with winkers added.

1 THE RUDE WARRIOR *** Ignore last couple as back to a suitable race and grade has him hard to beat. 4.00
2 ILUMINADO *** Never involved last start from a wide alley and work late suggests he can win this. 123
MR ARMSTRONG *** In terrific form and enjoys this surface. Follow. 5.00
4 GREAT LIGHT * Better than what he showed last start but have to take on trust. 20
5 ONE RAR *** Did everything bar win last start and right in this with light weight. 5.50
6 ENCOSTA DIABLO ** Ignore last start and worth some thought at odds on best form. 20
7 RIEDEL *** Winkers added after OK run last start and improves over recent winning trip. 5.00
8 SPRING THUNDER *** Won very well last start and looks very well placed on 51.kg. Can win. 4.00
9 INSPIRE ** Can ignore last start and should be competitive at odds from gate one. 33

.

Race 9

Selections; 4 SURE WIN – 2 GOLDEN RABBIT – 3 GREAT WISE – 9 SUPER STRIKE
It’s safe to say this is not a strong Class 4 field. In fact it’s probably one scratching away from an ordinary KSD so a horse like SURE WIN should really win. Punters will be a tad gun-shy though as he was sent out as the odds-on pop last start where he disappointed after returning a roarer. Given he had been “treated” for the complaint previously, he is a risk but if anywhere near right, he should win. The only two horses that could beat him on their own merits are GOLDEN RABBIT and GREAT WISE. GOLDEN RABBIT showed enough last start to think he wins soon in Class 4 and looks suited in this race with a 3kg claim. GREAT WISE resumes for a new stable – HK TAN – and if he runs to the form he showed for Michael Clements, he goes mighty close. The only others to consider for exotics are APPRECIATION, SUPER STRIKE and WAIRAKEI.

1 TREASUREINTHEHEART * Resuming. Has been very disappointing but could improve in Class 4. 33
2 GOLDEN RABBIT *** Will win in this company sooner than later and this looks suitable. 5.00
3 GREAT WISE *** Resuming for new stable after a very good run of form. Goes close. 4.00
4 SURE WIN *** Excuses (repeat roarer) when beaten as odds-on last start but wins if right. 2.10
5 APPRECIATION ** Last run better than the result and will be competitive this company. 8.00
6 LIGHT BRIGADE * Needs longer. 500
7 FAMOUS N FAST * Resuming sans blinkers off. Passing. 100
8 ZAC VELOCITY * Not suited. 50
9 SUPER STRIKE ** Competitive in this type of race and can place in a field with no depth. 10
10 WAIRAKEI ** Honest and while he will need Class to win, a must for exotics. 12

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
