Singapore Racing – Friday

Friday 24 April

Ghost (Red & white) looks good in Race8

Ghost (Red & white) looks good in Race8

While most race-goers will have one eye on a Sunday card that features three Group races including the Lion City Cup, Fridays all-Poly meeting looks a terrific punting affair and one not to be missed.

The all-weather usually plays second fiddle to the magnificent turf track but given the fairness of the track and form lines that are easy to follow, it can be a gold mine for punters. Naturally the trial form also holds-up and it will pay to get to the track early as there should be value galore in race 1 with plenty improving on recent poor form after showing something at the jump-outs.

Yes, FULL MEANING might be the one to beat and probably starts short but it will pay to keep the likes of SUPER JOY, IRREPRESSIBLE, STATE GENERAL, RAINBOW STAR and the emergency EXCITING PROSPECT all safe on some smart trial form.

In race 3 on the card it will be Poly race form that should hold up. BRAD showed last start he will win again on this surface sooner than later with BRING MONEY HOME, LA FONTANA, RED SAPPHIRE and IKING all improvers back on the Poly.

frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120The better horses appear later in the card and while the likes of PIONEER SEVEN and ASTROSTAR have to respected in race 8 – a BM83 sprint – the lightly raced GHOST might be very hard to beat. The former Australian has only had some seven starts in Singapore but goes better than most when he does get to the track and does love this track.

Race 1

Selections; 4 FULL MEANING – 7 SUPER JOY – 6 IRREPRESSIBLE – 13 EXCITING PROSPECT
A very interesting race to open what is a strong weekend of racing with some horses likely to improve on poor recent form after some nice trial indicators. In fact four or so horses look like they can win this on recent trial form and the tote may be a good guide on the chances of SUPER JOY, IRREPRESSIBLE, EXCITING PROSPECT and STATE GENERAL. Of the four, SUPER JOY resuming certainly showed enough at his trial to think he plays a big part in this with gate 1 a factor. Likewise, IRREPRESSIBLE resumes after a poor run of form but looked good with blinkers at the trials and that could do the trick. But FULL MEANING could be the one to beat. The 4YO did well in Class 4 last start and has to appreciate being back in maiden company with Munro up from gate 6. Throw in RAINBOW STAR (also after a nice trial) and go wide in exotics.

1 THIRD PRINCE ** Placed at Singapore debut over 1400m but some query back in trip. 5.00
2 SUN EMPIRE * Former Australian who did place at his race debut this trip but trial form since arriving just fair. 50
3 STATE GENERAL *** Resuming after good run post bleeding attack and recent trials suggests he goes close. 5.00
4 FULL MEANING *** Will find this a lot easier than solid effort in Class 4 company and can win. 8.00
5 APPELLATION ** Gets tongue-tie after being disappointing with support over 1000m last start so take on trust. 5.00
6 IRREPRESSIBLE *** Resuming after very patchy run of form but gets blinkers and recent trial with head-gear has him under notice. 12
7 SUPER JOY *** Another resuming after a poor run of form but recent trial very good and plays a part in this. 12
8 NINETYSEVENSUCCESS ** Very frustrating horse who really should have won one by now. Risky. 6.00
9 RAINBOW STAR *** Ran well in Class 4 last start and comes into this with another good trial. Keep safe. 12
10 STEED EXPEDITE * Not a mile away last couple but like to see over longer. 33
11 TRECRATIC * Form ordinary but some of his better runs were over this trip. 20
12 FOLLOW THE KING ** Form better than it reads and cheeky run expected. 20
13 EXCITING PROSPECT *** Blinkers on. Yet another with questionable recent race form but has trialed like a winner. Can win. 8.00
14 THINK PRETTY * No. 200

.

Race 2

Selections; 10 RAZZOSTELLA – 7 IMPERIAL BOY – 11 ROAN RANGER – 6 FAST RICH
RAZZOSTELLA could be very hard to beat in this Restricted Maiden Poly sprint. The 3YO has shown speed to lead and place at two career starts over 1200m (turf) and given he worked hard on both occasions from wide gates, he should appreciate the better alley and 1000m. One that could test him at odds is IMPERIAL BOY. Now trained by Mike Clements, IMPERIAL BOY failed at two starts in 2014 but his recent trial form with blinkers suggests he grows a proverbial leg and a win would not surprise. Of the rest with winning chances, ROAN RANGER has looked comfortable enough at the trials to seriously consider with FAST RICH and JOE SWIPER also in the mix.

1 LIM’S BATTLE ** Did well when running on to place this trip last start but like to see over longer. 8.00
2 A LOT IN HAND ** Freshened with nice trial and look for improvement with gate 1 bonus. 10
3 PREFERRED ** Goes well enough on the Poly to consider each-way. 12
4 WE ARE GENIUS ** Recent trial good but very disappointing with support at his first campaign and have to take on trust. 33
5 FAMOUS ARTIST ** Solid at Official Trial but gets Nunes so market watch in order. 8.00
6 FAST RICH *** Resuming after showing very good improvement at second race start. Keep safe. 6.00
7 IMPERIAL BOY *** Resuming with blinkers and trials with head-gear impressive and can win. 20
8 JOE SWIPER *** Appreciates solid debut run and looks some hope from gate 4. 12
9 LIM’S ELUSIVE * Battles away and may need longer. 50
10 RAZZOSTELLA *** Has pace so 1000m looks ideal and could be hard to beat. 2.50
11 ROAN RANGER *** Solid at two trials and worth thought from gate 2 with Zaki up. 12
12 IN BOCCA AL LUPO ** Improved at second race start and pay to follow at value. 33
13 DRAGON INFINITY * No. 100

.

Race 3

Selections; 3 BRAD – 6 BRING MONEY HOME – 8 SUPER JOE – 4 LA FONTANA
A typical Class 4 Poly event over two turns where there are plenty of horses suited the trip and track so value could be on offer. Barriers will play a part too and as it stands, BRAD jumps from the ace so must be respected on form. He did it tough enough last start from a bad gate to think a good run nearer the fence has him the one to beat. BRING MONEY HOME is another that appeals. He also gets to jump from a nice gate (2) and more importantly gets back onto the Poly so he should have every chance. RED SAPPHIRE and IKING are two others that also appreciate the switch to Poly. Pat Shaw also plays a part with LA FONTANA and SUPER JOE with blinkers added while PATERSON ROAD another to keep safe.

1 MUSCLE BEACH * Tongue-tie off. Yet to show up in Singapore and first start on the Poly. 33
2 IKING *** Drawn badly but in form and switch to Poly could see a result. 6.00
3 BRAD *** Good effort from wide gate last start suggests he can win after drawing the ace. 3.50
4 LA FONTANA *** Only win was on the Poly and gives this shake. 6.00
5 RED SAPPHIRE *** Very honest and switch to Poly could see a result. 6.00
6 BRING MONEY HOME *** In very solid form and another who gets back onto his recent winning surface. 6.00
7 PATERSON ROAD *** Last start better than the result and worth an each-way look. 20
8 SUPER JOE *** Never likely last start so blinkers go on and could be value. Keep safe. 12
9 UNIQUE ONE ** Tested at the trip but going along in good order and can figure. 20
10 KING SAVINSKY * Gets tongue-tie and visor but prefer others. 50
11 AUREUS ** May need easier to win but trip and track suits. 20
12 CHRISTMAS ** First up run good and improves again this trip. Watch at odds. 20
13 OZYMANDIAS ** Doesn’t win out if turn but showed last start he has to be considered. 12
14 BLACK BEAN * Reassess Class 5. 50

.

Race 4

Selections; 6 THE MIGHTY THOR – 1 ALL MY WAY – 7 HARDEN UP – 4 LUCKY SIX
While the good form comes from some regular Class 5 conveyances in CASSIS OOLONG, KING OF KOON and the emergency GOOD CHILD, the recent Class droppers may be the one’s to watch. The MIGHTY THOR had issues last start (Respiratory) when having a start in Class 5 and gets another chance. ALL MY WAY has had two starts this campaign in Class 5 with excuses (stirrup) last start. With plenty of pace expected in this, he will be flying late if on-song. Others that could win if having a good day include HARDEN UP, GYPSY MAGIC and the maiden, LUCKY SIX.

1 ALL MY WAY *** Blinkers of/tongue-tie on. Lost his stirrup and his chances last start and would win this on his day. 5.50
2 FINAL COUNTDOWN ** Form reads terribly but significant drop in Class suggests improvement. 50
3 GYPSY MAGIC *** Pay to ignore last two as goes better than that and will win this company. 8.00
4 LUCKY SIX *** Maiden who looks due and must go close in this field. 4.00
5 REYSHA ** Improves in Class 5 and will be value. 33
6 THE MIGHTY THOR *** Respiratory distress last start and wins this if right. 3.00
7 HARDEN UP *** Can mix his form but will win races like this sooner than later. 12
8 KING CROSS ** Appreciates first-up run but might need a tad longer to win. 20
9 CASSIS OOLONG *** Not far away last start similar affair and has to be respected. 12
10 KING OF KOON *** Won when blinkers added last start and should play a part in this finish. 12
11 STATE TROOPER * Disappointing last start given nice trial prior and have to take on trust. 33
12 URBAN LEGEND * Needs longer. 33
13 GOOD CHILD *** In good form and in this a very long way. 12
14 SUGARTIME JAZZ ** Goes OK but better winning option on the turf. 20

.

Race 5

Selections; 1 EATONS GOLD – 2 ECLAIR SENSATION – 6 SING ROULETTE – 11 BRINGITHOME
The start in this race will tell us plenty with two horses at the top of the weights in EATONS GOLD and ECLAIR SENSATION both a fair chance to miss the kick so luck and race tempo will play a role. EATONS GOLD is resuming after a year off and of the two, the 6YO could race handier from gate 6. If he does, he could easily have enough in the tank to win first-up in Class 4 and should be value. ECLAIR SENSATION gets Nunes and with winkers and a tongue-tie off, he will be the testing material late but expect support. CUSTODIAN could also be supported resuming after showing plenty at his first campaign with blinkers added. SING ROULETTE has the pace to lead and should be thereabouts at the business end and hopefully provides each-way value. BRINGITHOME and the second emergency, DUTY FREE, two others to keep safe.

1 EATONS GOLD *** Resuming after excuses last start and will win in this company so follow. 8.00
2 ECLAIR SENSATION *** Loses winkers and tongue tie. Gets Nunes. Will miss the kick and fly late so take on trust. 3.00
3 ANGRY CAT ** Competitive on his day but recent win was in easier company. 20
4 HAPPY HAPPY ** Another that needed easier company to win and place looks best. 33
5 CUSTODIAN *** Promising type resuming with blinkers after a long spell. Keep safe. 3.50
6 SING ROULETTE *** Has speed and often value so pay to follow each-way. 8.00
7 SKY ELEVEN ** Coming off short spell so fresh but might need longer to show his best. 12
8 LION WAVE * No. 100
9 CITY OF SAILS ** Placed last start at odds and worth following. 20
10 FUKU ICHIBAN * Supported last start similar affair but needs 1400m and turf. 20
11 BRINGITHOME *** Blinkers on and that could be enough to see an overdue result. 10
12 PROBO CHANDROSO * No. 100
13 CAIYAYA * Not a mile away last couple but wide gate makes this tough. 50
14 DUTY FREE *** Continues to trial well and will swoop to win one of these at odds soon. 33

.

Race 6

Selections; 1 WINNING STAR – 2 ALASAMO – 4 ZENZERO – 5 FOREVER BEST
Two horses that find themselves back over a suitable trip in WINNING STAR and ALASAMO are well worth a second look in this race. Both have been over sprint trips at their last two starts and hopefully punters miss that fact and they offer value. WINNING STAR also gets his recent winning hoop in Alan Munro back on-board and from gate 4, the pair must go close. ALASAMO gets blinkers/pacifiers back although his hoop, Corey Brown, will need some luck after drawing wide. The two others in the race that can win are the maiden ZENZERO and the horse that broke his maiden status when beating ZENZERO last start in FOREVER BEST. The two stablemates should race well again but expect ZENZERO to be the one that gets support.

1 WINNING STAR *** Ignore last couple as this trip and grade is more suitable. Big show. 6.00
2 ALASAMO *** Also finds himself over a suitable trip and gets head-gear. Goes close. 5.00
3 KLEVER WARRIOR ** Disappointing last two but switch to Poly could see improvement. 33
4 ZENZERO *** Maiden but has foot on the till and this company will be no issue. 3.50
5 FOREVER BEST *** Backed up solid run with maiden win over Zenzero and pay to follow. 6.00
6 GOLDEN JADE ** Probably needs easier to win but should be competitive. 33
7 BIGCAT RHAPSODY ** Form reads terribly but worth one more look with blinkers in what should be a suitable race. 50
8 NICE HAT TRICK * Didn’t back up only good run and easier to ignore. 33
9 CHI LIN ** Maiden who just missed in easier company last start. 12
10 WEOWNA FLYER * Not going well enough. 50
11 NORTH STAR * Form reads badly but on notice with blinkers on first time. 50
12 MYSTICAL DIAMOND * Last start better but still needs to lift. 50

.

Race 7

Selections; 5 MORALES – 4 KAM’S COMET – 3 BRAHMS AND LISZT – 6 GREAT SUN
A wide open race with many hopes but winning form is good form and MORALES gets the nod. True, he won at his only race start where most the others have performed well at this level but the debut effort over 1000m was excellent and he can easily step up to 1200m and win again. His biggest danger could be KAM’S COMET who also won like a good thing at his race debut. And given he had excuses at his second race start and gets back on the Poly, he might start favourite and be hard to beat. The blanket goes over BRAHMS AND LIST, GREAT SUN, MR FANTASTIC (odds) and GUILTY PLEASURES who can all win on best form. Go even wider in exotics.

1 RIKIOH ** Not a mile away last start and Poly suits so keep safe. 20
2 FREE HAPPY ** Went OK at only Poly start and thereabouts of late so pay to keep safe. 20
3 BRAHMS AND LISZT *** Smart enough type resuming and should go well. 8.00
4 KAM’S COMET *** Gets winkers and had excuses last start in Graduation company. Can win. 4.00
5 MORALES *** Went super on debut and can go on with the job. 2.50
6 GREAT SUN *** Back in trip but fresh enough to give a sight with tongue-tie added. 8.00
7 MR FANTASTIC *** Flopped last start but not far away two back this company and recent trial was good. Keep safe. 12
8 GUILTY PLEASURES *** Always a show and well worth an each-way look. 12
9 ONE UNITED * Hard to follow and not sure what to expect with head-gear removed. 33
10 TIP OF BORNEO * Resuming and needs easier. 100
11 NO SMOKING JEFF ** Backed up maiden win this trip/track with solid effort in Novice company and worth thought at value. 12
12 WYNDHAM * Easier to ignore on debut. 100
13 METAPHOR * No. 100
14 WU SCHOLAR ** Showed nothing on debut but a few trials suggest he has more to offer than that. 100

.

Race 8

Selections; 3 GHOST – 10 TOU SHOU BRIGHT – 6 SECRET MISSION – 2 ASTROSTAR
While the two top rated horses in PIONEER SEVEN and ASTROSTAR appeal in this company, it may pay to stick with horses in form with GHOST leading that charge. The 6YO obviously has issues – only seven starts in Singapore a testament to that fact – but when right, he goes better than most. Also in his favour is that he gets back onto the Poly – his winning surface in Singapore – after a top turf run and could be hard to beat. On the minimum weights two last start winners in SECRET MISSION and TOU SHOU BRIGHT also appeal. In particular TOU SHOU BRIGHT looks a very promising type and happy to follow with just 50kg and SECRET MISSION might just like this winning caper and worth following. As mentioned, PIONEER SEVEN and ASTROSTAR would win this if in form so keep safe.

1 PIONEER SEVEN *** Struggling for best form but suited here with 2kg claim and plays a part. 3.00
2 ASTROSTAR *** Struggled last two but recent trial good and might show his best with Kif Toh up. 8.00
3 GHOST *** Has issues but in very good form and hard to beat back on the Poly. 2.50
4 HONEST TRUTH ** Honest but up against some smart sprinters here so would need to be at his best. 33
5 SMART IDEA * Appreciates first-up run but needs longer. 50
6 SECRET MISSION *** Finally broke Singapore duck last start and not without hope up in Class with just 50kg. 5.00
7 CORONET PEAK ** Will be the one storming late and pay to keep safe at odds. 20
8 WARPATH * Not a mile away last start but not suited here. 50
9 MEXBOROUGH BOY * Needs easier. 100
10 TOU SHOU BRIGHT *** This company is tough but hard to fault form and has no weight. 20
11 SMART PEOPLE ** Former Malaysian who obviously goes OK but should need easier than this. 20
12 D’DON * Reassess Class 5. 200

.

Race 9

Selections; 1 CASTOR – 5 CLIP THE TICKET – 2 INVINCIBLE MAN – 4 KAISER
A good race to finish the card and while CASTOR comes into this with a poor run under his belt, there is a lot to like about the 3YO and happy to have him on top. The poor run was in 3YO Group company and it might pay to forgive the effort as he placed behind Affleck at his previous two runs and gets back onto the Poly where he is two-from-two. He will need to be on song though with plenty of other hopes including last start winner, CLIP THE TICKET. The 3YO goes better than most and while he has a wide draw to overcome here, he must be respected with R Shafiq retaining the ride. INVINCIBLE MAN is another 3YO that will be better than Class 4 company and probably starts favourite with KAISER, LUCKY DAPPER and BLUE DIAMOND all with winning hopes. Keep the emergency – BELLUS WONDER – safe is he gets a start.

1 CASTOR *** Found the going tough last start at 3YO Group level but loves the Poly and can win this company. 5.00
2 INVINCIBLE MAN *** Showed last start he wins this company and happy to follow. 4.00
3 BLUE DIAMOND *** Another who has showed last couple he wins soon and goes very close here. 5.00
4 KAISER *** Gets blinkers and always a show in this type of race – often at value. 8.00
5 CLIP THE TICKET *** Drawn wide but excuses for only poor run and pay to keep following. 5.00
6 LUCKY DAPPER *** Each-way all the way. 6.00
7 DAAD’S THE WAY * Needs longer. 100
8 ORIGIN FAST * Struggled similar affair last start so have to take on trust. 50
9 HELEN ** Resuming after showing enough at two starts to consider first-up. 20
10 FARRAND ** Blinkers off and has looked likely of late with value in mind. 20
11 LET’S SCREAM NOW * Maiden resuming and needs easier. 50
12 MIAGRACE * Maiden and looking for easier. 100
13 BELLUS WONDER *** Drawn badly again but has pace and will pay to follow. 12
14 BENJI’S RULE ** Goes OK on his day and always pay to keep safe in exotics. 20

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
