Singapore Racing – Friday

Friday 2 May

Happy Money 09-02-14

Happy Money is another who has a recent hat-trick of wins

The month of May is upon us and while all roads lead to the International weekend, some
good races on Friday should keep all and sundry more than interested.
And a quick glance at the nine race card has the top-weights rated highly with the “one”horse having a winning chance in all but one race (sorry Just for J!).
WONDERFUL PRINCE deserves his top-weight in BM67 company given he is three-fromthree
in Singapore.
The former Geelong (Australia) maiden has hit the ground running since arriving at Kranji
and as his trainer has always suggested he improves over ground – as he did winning well
over 1400m last start – the mile looks ideal and he should be hard to beat in race 5.
HAPPY MONEY is another who has a recent hat-trick of wins to his name and while the
bubble burst as the odds on pop last start, he has found a very winnable race in the lucky last
The 3YO looks a very progressive type and certainly wins races like this, hopefully on his
way to bigger and better things.
The ladies carrying weight also look to have a say with KIWI KARMA (race 3) and
EMPRESS WU (race 8) definitely in winning calculations.

Best Bets; (HAPPY MONEY race 9, win), (EMPRESS WU race 8, each-way) and (BALLISTICS race 2, value).
Bankers for Jackpots: Race 6 (2, 3, 4 and 6), race 7 (3, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11), race 8 (1, 3, 4, 5 and 7), race 9 (1, 2, 7, 9 and 10).

Race 1

Selections; 6 PINYIN – 5 LION BAROWS – 3 IRISH FLASH – 1 CHEETAH
A KSD over 1900m comprising a solid group of stayers kicks off proceedings on the poly. PINYIN resumed with a strong run in this grade over 1700m. He won over 1800m was placed at 1900m before his let-up; with Alan Munro getting on he will be hard to hold off. LION BAROWS put in a good effort in Class 4 over 1800m on turf last start, he rocketed home to just miss at 1600m on the poly when resuming at his start prior; with Shafiq on for the master trainer of stayers Hideyuki Takaoka, he represents a strong chance. IRISH FLASH is one-paced, he was unsighted over a mile in Class 4 last start but placed over 1700m in this grade at his previous two outings, he has a win over 1800m in Class 5 to his credit and with Harry Kasim up, should race well. CHEETAH likes to stride along and will
find this easier than recent Class 4 efforts; he is on trial at 1900m and has plenty of weight but handles the poly and with regular rider Dan Beasley should give a sight. GINSENG drops in grade and gets a gear change of blinkers off, tongue tie on, his only win was over a mile at Wyong and from the good gate could show up in this. In a good race, others that could go forward and race well are BEAUTIFUL WORLD and JOYFUL HEART MAN.

1 CHEETAH *** Likes to stride along and will find this easier than recent Class 4 efforts. On trial at 1900m and has plenty of weight but handles the poly and should give a sight. 5.00
2 GINSENG ** Blinkers off, tongue tie on. Gets down to an easier grade after four moderate Singapore efforts, only win was over a mile at Wyong. Gear change, alley and class drop could help. 12
3 IRISH FLASH *** Unsighted last start but placed over 1700m in this grade at previous two outings. Has a win over 1800m in Cl5 to his credit and should race well. 5.00
4 BEAUTIFUL WORLD ** Last two runs have been below his best. Yet to win beyond 1700m but has been placed at 1900m. Likes to bowl along and can be hard to pass. 12
5 LION BAROWS *** Good effort in Class 4 over 1800m on turf last start. Rocketed home to just miss at 1600m on poly at start prior in this grade when resuming. Strong chance. 3.50
6 PINYIN *** Strong effort when resuming over 1700m last start. Won over 1800m and was placed at 1900m at two starts prior to let-up. Gets top rider and should race well. 3.80
7 JOYFUL HEART MAN ** Getting way down in grade. Led and fought on well in this company over 1900m two starts back. Has not won since Dec 2011 but gets senior rider which could help. 14
8 TIGER TZAR * Still a maiden. Last run fair but this looks too tough. 33
9 WORLD OF FAME * Led all the way to win at cricket score odds in a weak Class 5 over 1900m last outing. This is much harder. 20
10 KTRONIC * Plugs away but better off in Class 5. 33

Race 2

Selections; 1 TAKEOVER – 6 BALLISTICS – 7 DAY BY DAY – 8 UNIQUE ONE
An Initiation over 1200m on the turf with three that have shown something up against a smart trialing newcomer. TAKEOVER did not enjoy the poly last start but still finished close up. His previous form on turf was good and with Manoel Nunes to ride, will be hard to beat. UNIQUE ONE ran on but never threatened last start; both his runs have been good and he gets a claim for Willie Tan; he will benefit from a more positive ride. INTENSE GOLD was never on the track when resuming and boxed on well; his other three runs have been sound and from the good draw he should make a bid. Of the newcomers DAY BY DAY is the interesting one. From the Shane Baertschiger stable with the in-form John Powell up, he is by speed sire Danroad out of a sister to Group winners RUBITANO and RUBITOFF; he trials nicely and should debut well. Of the others, BALLISTICS put in a good effort at his only start and had enough excuses to think he goes close here with the Michael Freedman-trained BOYCE AVENUE, which had the benefit of three Australian starts as a 2YO, has had a couple of quiet trials and could show up.

1 TAKEOVER *** Did not enjoy poly last start but still finished close up. Happier here and will be hard to beat. 4.00
2 PURE WHITE ** Battled away at last couple of outings and could get in the mix. 10
3 DESTINY GENERAL * Blinkers off but needs to do more. 20
4 BOYCE AVENUE ** By Red Dazzler. Had three unplaced starts in Australia as a 2YO. Has had two quiet trials. Brother to minor winner MANZANO who has won up to 2000m. Watch for support. 10
5 JUST DUIT * Needs to improve. 25
6 BALLISTICS *** Excuses on what was a good debut and should be improved. Can win. 10
7 DAY BY DAY *** First start. By speed sire Danroad out of a sister to Group winners RUBITANO and RUBITOFF. Trials nicely and should debut well. 4.00
8 UNIQUE ONE *** Excuses last start when supported and work late has him under notice. 5.50
9 INTENSE GOLD *** Has raced well at all four outings. Resumed and never on track last start. Well drawn and should be handy all the way. 5.00
10 SECRET SPICE * Winkers to blinkers. Needs to improve on initial outing. 33

Race 3

Selections; 1 KIWI KARMA – 2 ROCK ESPRIT – 4 CONFEIGN – 8 MASURAO
A 2YO over 1200m on turf and as always, watch the market is the mantra. Of those we know, KIWI KARMA lived up to her solid debut by bolting in over 1100m on the poly last outing. There is not much of her and she rises 1.5kg, but should be the one to beat again. ROCK ESPRIT ran well when third to KIWI KARMA and gets a 2kg weight pull which could help – he also has the benefit of a couple of turf runs in Australia before coming to Singapore. CONFEIGN has done little wrong at his two outings and was second to KIWI KARMA last time; he meets her 2kg better and should be in the finish again. MASURAO showed speed on debut and could be further improved. An interesting runner is KNOW EACH OTHER a half-brother to the recent Sydney Group 3 winner ESTONIAN PRINCESS; he showed nothing in his trial but could be one to watch.

1 KIWI KARMA *** Spanked them last start after a good debut. Only small but will be hard to beat. 2.00
2 ROCK ESPRIT *** Fought on well behind KIWI KARMA on Singapore debut. Has benefit of two Australian runs on turf and meets KIWI KARMA 2kg better. Should race well. 4.00
3 BEST LIFE * First start. By Nom Du Jeu. Bred to stay. Later. 33
4 CONFEIGN *** Strong efforts at both starts. Ran 2nd to KIWI KARMA, meets her 2kg better and should race well again. 3.50
5 GLORIOUS STEED ** By Stratum out of a Zabeel mare, grand-dam was top middle distance mare LASHED. Trials fairly. Watch for support. 16
6 GREAT BALLS OFFIRE * Hasn’t done enough at only two outings. 25
7 KNOW EACH OTHER * By Hard Spun. Half brother to recent Group winner ESTONIAN PRINCESS. Showed nothing in trial. Watch for support. 20
8 MASURAO ** Showed speed on debut and should be improved. 12

Race 4

Selections; 1 PRECIOUS GEM – 5 GENERAL CONATUS – 3 PHARMA BROWNE – 2 MINI BOSS
An Initiation over a mile on turf with plenty of the usual suspects involved. PRECIOUS GEM wore winkers, raced handy and fought on well last start. He was placed at this trip in Australia and with Lisa Allpress staying aboard, he should be able to cross, go forward and be in the finish. PHARMA BROWNE is one-paced but has been threatening for a while being placed at all five outings over the mile on turf; Manoel Nunes stays on and he will be closing late. GENERAL CONATUS put in his best run last start coming from well back; if he gets away he will be hard to hold out. MINI BOSS battles away well, the claim for Rueven and 1600m on turf will help. DANE’S ANATOMY gets the tongue tie, he battled away last start over 1400m, the mile should suit and he could be an improver. The rest are
strugglers but this is a weak race and any could get in the placings without surprising.

1 PRECIOUS GEM *** Raced handy and fought on well last start. Was placed at this trip in Australia and should get in the finish. 3.50
2 MINI BOSS ** Solid effort last start and should be thereabouts again. Turf and claim will help. 8.00
3 PHARMA BROWNE *** One-paced but has been threatening for a while. Placed at all five outings over the mile and will be closing late. 3.50
4 GLOBAL FOCUS * Shown little so far but could appreciate the extra distance. 16
5 GENERAL CONATUS *** Strong effort coming from well back last outing. If he can get away, he will be hard to beat. 5.00
6 STING * Downgrade to winkers. Only battles and has had plenty of chances. 16
7 WINNING STAR * Blinkers on but will need more than that. 33
8 DANE’S ANATOMY ** Tongue tie on. Battled away last start over 1400m, mile should suit and could be an improver. 10
9 COGITO ERGO SUM ** Disappointed last outing. Gets a long way back but should be running on. 12
10 GOLDEN JADE ** Resuming. Pulled up when not striding last start. Placed two starts back over 1600m in weak race. Needs to improve. 25
11 RISING TIDE * Did not show up at only start. 50

Race 5

Selections; 1 WONDERFUL PRINCE – 9 LET’S TALK NOW – 2 YES BABA – 4 IZNATE
A BM67 over a mile on turf with one form horse up against a number of resumers, maybes and disappointments. WONDERFUL PRINCE has won three straight since arriving in Singapore, he steps up to a mile after a good win over 1400m in Graduation company; he has to give them all weight and is not well drawn but Manoel Nunes stays on and he should race well again. LET’S TALK NOW has been close up in similar Grade at his past three starts, he has no weight and with Alan Munro up should be handy all the way. YES BABA loves the mile but prefers Class 4 and the polytrack; he is nicely drawn and with Corey Brown up will put in his usual honest effort. The winkers go on IZNATE who is a Longchamp (Fr) mile winner and should be improved from his debut – watch for support. BEE AHEAD is a useful middle-distance horse having his second run since resuming from let-up; down in grade he trialed well recently- he too, should be watched for support. WHAT’S DAT only two wins have been on poly but he has no weight and plugs away, with Barend Vorster steering, he could make his presence felt.

1 WONDERFUL PRINCE *** Has won three straight in Singapore. Steps up to a mile after good win over 1400m in Graduation company. Has to give them all weight and not well drawn but should race well again. 2.50
2 YES BABA *** Loves the mile but prefers Class 4 and polytrack. Nicely drawn and will put in his usual honest effort. 6.00
3 BEE AHEAD ** Having second run since resuming from let-up. Down in grade and trialed well recently. Watch for support. 8.00
4 IZNATE *** Winkers on. Fair effort on debut; Longchamp (Fr) mile winner who should be improved. Watch market. 12
5 PINT SIZED PRINCE * Ran a bold race last start but has always found this Class too good and distance too far. 20
6 RIGHTEO ** Won three races over 1400m in NZ but has been disappointing since arriving in Singapore. Could improve. 20
7 BLUE LION ** Resumed with a solid effort over 1400m. Has won at a mile and could show up. 20
8 PRINCESS SARAH * Only battled in mares race last start. This looks too hard. 50
9 LET’S TALK NOW *** Has been close up in similar Grade at past three starts. Has no weight and should be handy all the way. 4.00
10 WHAT’S DAT ** Only two wins have been on poly but has no weight and plugs away. Could make his presence felt. 10

Race 6

Selections; 2 FRAGRANCE EMPIRE – 3 PEGASUS VICTORY – 6 CALIFORNIA KID – 4 FOLLOW THE KING
An even race in the fact that four so so can win, four or so play a part on best form and four or so have no hope whatsoever. Of those that are ready to win a race like this, FRAGRANCE EMPIRE gets gate one and comes into this with a good run in Class five and a nice subsequent trial under his belt. The 4YO US-bred gelding maybe a seven-start maiden but given what he showed in Class 5, he will win races like this and most likely progress with race experience. Of the others that win without surprising, PEGASUS VICTORY loves this trip, is in fine form and gets a 3kg claimer from gate 3; he must go close. Like FRAGRANCE EMPIRE, FOLLOW THE KING is a lightly raced maiden who very much appreciates this company and has also trialled well recently. CALIFORNIA KID gets the bang-in-form Kif Toh and certainly good enough on his day to give this a shake.

1 FLAMING FIREHEART ** Last start better and should appreciate Class 5. 20
2 FRAGRANCE EMPIRE *** Backed up good run this company with nice trial and could be hard to beat from the ace. 3.50
3 PEGASUS VICTORY *** Hard to fault recent form this trip and right in this finish. 3.00
4 FOLLOW THE KING *** Drawn wide but last couple OK and recent trial with pacifiers suggests he goes close. 6.00
5 TESTING TIME ** Last two ordinary but has pace so drop to 1000m should see improvement. 20
6 CALIFORNIA KID *** Better than what he showed last couple and can win with handy 4kg claim. 6.00
7 BALLY BOY ** Always in the mix but will need luck from wide alley. 10
8 ESCALADE PEAK * Resuming. No. 200
9 SHEN KIM ** Supported and won last start but that was in an easier race. 20
10 GOOD BOSS ** Hard to follow but goes OK when right. 33
11 TRIPLE A PLUS * Last start was his best but like to see him back that up before considering. 33
12 DIAMOND ON THE BAY * Easier to ignore as a rule. 33
13 LUCKY TWENTY THREE * Needs longer. 100
14 D’DON * Is Don. Is no good. 100

Race 7

Selections; 11 GOLDEN BRILLIANT – 8 POWER LION – 5 DARCI CHARMER – 7 GOOD NEWS
This is a very solid Novice event and with three last start winners – GOLDEN BRILLIANT, POWER LION and GOOD NEWS – in the field, whoever wins will be a horse to follow. Of the trio, GOLDEN BRILLIANT won very well at what was his third career start and that win good enough to follow. He was eased down on the line on that occasion and although drawn the outside in this race, he looks very progressive and can win. POWER LION was backed-off the boards on debut and while this is tougher, he must be respected. A tough run on debut suggests he had a bit in hand on the field and can obviously win this. GOOD NEWS backed up a good debut with a win but probably needs to lift in this company. Three other horses that look up to this are DARCI CHARMER who comes into this with excuses
at his last start as did HAPPY PRINCESS with AMAZON GOLD also in the mix after a solid debut and good subsequent trial.

1 JUST FOR J * No. 100
2 BRILLIANT BEAUTY * Needs to show more. 100
3 AMAZON GOLD *** Freshened with nice trial after solid debut and pay to keep very safe. 20
4 BELLUS WONDER ** Improved at second Singapore start and will add value to exotics. 20
5 DARCI CHARMER *** Did it tough last start so the run better than the result and can win this. 6.00
6 D’ARTAGNAN ** Hard to fault consistency and plays a part somewhere late. 8.00
7 GOOD NEWS *** Didn’t beat a lot last start but win good enough to follow. 8.00
8 POWER LION *** Did it tough to win at a very short quote on debut and happy to follow. 3.00
9 FOREVER AHEAD ** Coming off a shocker but previous form was solid and another that will add value to exotics. 33
10 HAPPY PRINCESS *** Issues last start (not striding) and have to respect on previous good win. 10
11 GOLDEN BRILLIANT *** Backed up two good runs with a very strong win and hard to beat on that effort. 3.30

Race 8

Selections; 1 EMPRESS WU – 3 TIGER MASTER – 7 SWEET LODGE – 4 EMPEROR’S BANQUET
A very good mile with most horses in the type of form that suggests we have a very busy finish. EMPRESS WU heads the ratings and given she finds herself in suitable company and has a recent win over this trip to her name, she goes mighty close. Add the fact that T Rehaizat claims 2kg and has won on the smart mare previously, it all points towards a very good run. TIGER MASTER also has a claimer and must be a huge show to get back into the winners circle with Kif Toh on-board. Gate 2 also helps and the 4YO knows how to win. CHINESE CULTURE beat SWEET LODGE last start but there was not a lot between the pair and both could again fight out the finish with EMPEROR’S BANQUET also well in the mix. Great race.

1 EMPRESS WU *** Last start better than the result and recent win over this trip. Big show. 4.00
2 GREENSTONE ** Has been tough to follow of late but obviously goes OK on his day. 12
3 TIGER MASTER *** Always a show and looks well placed here with 4kg claimer. 4.00
4 EMPEROR’S BANQUET *** Another who always puts in an honest effort and in this at the business end. 6.00
5 CHINESE CULTURE *** Won well last start and pay to follow while in winning form. 4.00
6 IRISH COFFEE * Recent trial OK but recent race form hopeless. 33
7 SWEET LODGE *** Eye-catching placing behind CHINESE CULTURE last start has him under notice. 5.00
8 FLYING TEMPO ** Honest, but prefer over longer. 15

Race 9

Selections; 1 HAPPY MONEY – 2 CODIGO – 9 VERTICAL START – 10 MAPLE STAR
HAPPY MONEY might have left a sour taste in punters mouths when being beaten as the odds-on elect last start but given he was gunning for four-straight, we could forgive the run. He has drawn the widest but expect Dan Beasley to ride a very positive race and he might just be too good for these. But CODIGO is always some show in races like this and he did have excuses last start. A 3kg claim courtesy of S Noh won’t hurt and he should be in the mix. VERTICAL START finished second in a similar affair two back and a recent good trial has him under notice and MAPLE STAR goes good enough fresh to keep very safe first-up after a break. Of the rest, MY SHINE is in good form and has to be included somewhere and TIM could be considered each-way.

1 HAPPY MONEY *** Obviously disappointing last start as the beaten odds-on favourite but can bounce back. 2.50
2 CODIGO *** Could make excuses last start and goes close on best form. 6.00
3 DRAGON SPIRIT * Struggling. 50
4 ECLAIR FLYER * Resuming and hard to have on recent form. 50
5 IKING * Reassess longer and easier. 100
6 KAISER * Has been struggling for a while now. 50
7 MY SHINE *** Not far away last couple and should be in the mix in a race with no depth. 8.00
8 TIM ** Last two runs have been good and race should be suitable. Each-way. 8.00
9 VERTICAL START *** Two starts back in similar affair was good and recent trial good. Keep safe. 8.00
10 MAPLE STAR *** Goes well enough first-up to think he could win a race like this. 6.00
11 SACRED EMBLEM ** Resuming and might be value for skinny end of exotics. 20
12 COOL CAT ** This is tougher but won two of last three so have to respect. 14
13 ECLAIR SENSATION ** Will be doing best work late but might need easier. 12
14 SOON YI ** Another that will be flying late if race run to suit. 12

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
