Singapore Racing – Friday

Friday 13 March

Majestic Moments wins at Singapore on 15-06-14

Majestic Moments looks a strong contender in race 3

An odd nights racing with what looks some good punting races early, some great races late with some forgettable races sandwiched in-between. Of the good punting races early, MAJESTIC MOMENTS looks a strong chance in race 3 on the card.

Yes, the Class 4 Poly mile has depth and has a couple of Kranjiracing favourites in REIDEL and DANNY involved, but MAJESTIC MOMENTS looks a very progressive type and while it is his first start on the Poly, he trials like he more than handles the surface and is certainly ready to win again.

Hopefully he does indeed win and we can load-up in race 4 on BATTLE HORSE. The 4YO looked good on debut where he lead before being run down late over 1100m but the race experience coupled with a softer run expected from the better gate suggests he is hard to beat.

frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120As mentioned the card does finish off well with some nice races including a very good BM83 over 1700m (race 7). While you could make a case for most, BOURBON GOLDMAN looks due and while he hasn’t won beyond 1200m, he does look a leading hope in this. Zuriman and his 2kg claim looks a smart move but he does have to overcome a wide gate which could fall into TAFFETAS hands given the in-form mare gets to jump from gate 1 with Froggy Newitt on-board.

Race 1

Selections; 1 SUPER JOE – 4 DOUBLE JEOPARDY – 3 ZENZERO – 6 PURE WHITE
A solid maiden to start the meeting with at least four horses ready to win on recent form. At the top of the weights SUPER JOE heads the list. The 3Y0 gets blinkers back after finishing second on the turf over 2200m in KSD company and expect him to be doing best work on the line in what is a very suitable race. Likewise, DOUBLE JEOPARDY has his foot well and truly on the till and gets his chance after drawing beautifully in gate 3. The form from his last start close-up second placing has held up in nice enough Class 4 company (Singsurat) and he might even start favourite. Of the others that are due, ZENZERO had excuses last start and has certainly showed enough at the races to follow as is PURE WHITE and the consistent GENERAL CONATUS.

1 SUPER JOE *** Overdue to break maiden status and will be hard to hold out late with blinkers back on. 2.50
2 EL VERDUGO * Not a mile away last start but yet to deliver at the races. 33
3 ZENZERO *** Gets blinkers after having excuses with support last start and goes close on best form. 6.00
4 DOUBLE JEOPARDY *** Foot well and truly on the till and gets his chance here. 3.50
5 FOREVER BEST * Just battles. 33
6 PURE WHITE *** Did it tough so effort to place last start was good and pay to follow. 8.00
7 GENERAL CONATUS *** Has been tying for sometime but always looks an each-way look. 10
8 KATONG PARK ** Thereabouts as a rule and can include in exotics. 20
9 BIG BANG KING * Excuses last start but easier to ignore from wide gate. 33
10 THREE WHIP * No. 100
11 SPARKLING STAR ** Tongue-Tie on. Will be running on late and pay to include somewhere. 20
12 MIDNIGHT * No. 100
13 EISHIN BRIGHT ** Will go forward under Zaki and can run a cheeky race at odds. 50

.

Race 2

Selections; 1 GUILTY PLEASURES – 2 BULLET – 9 SEASONS PALACE – 5 MIRACLE MAN
Not a lot of depth in this Restricted Maiden and it may even be a race in two between GUILTY PLEASURES and BULLET. Both showed enough when blinkers were added last start and both will win sooner than later. Not much separates the two and while BULLET didn’t miss by much at his last start, GUILTY PLEASURES could be the improver with that run with blinkers under his belt. He was a bit keen on that occasion so the experience could count for plenty and 1100m on the Poly could be what he needs given some nice trial form. As mentioned BULLET didn’t miss by much last time out and will be in this finish. Only two newcomers appeal on trial form and the market will be a good guide on the likes of SEASONS PALACE and GANNA while MIRACLE MAN might be one to watch at long odds given he had excuses last start and resumes here from gate 1 with an upgrade to blinkers.

1 GUILTY PLEASURES *** Will appreciate run with blinkers and hard to beat in this field. 2.50
2 BULLET *** Just missed when blinkers when on last start and gets his chance here. 2.50
3 FLYING WINNER ** Form reads badly but improves with blinkers added first time. 20
4 GANNA ** Drawn a tad awkwardly but trial suggests he has something to offer on debut with market a good guide. 10
5 MIRACLE MAN ** Resuming with upgrade to blinkers after all sorts of issues last start. Keep safe at odds. 33
6 MUVUKA * Freshened but needs to show more. 50
7 PERFECT CURIOSITY ** Had support on debut but that run just fair. Later. 20
8 REGAL RED ** Resuming after showing little first campaign but shows enough at trials to keep safe. 33
9 SEASONS PALACE *** Trials good enough to consider on debut with nice gate a bonus. 6.00
10 THINK PRETTY * No. 100
11 LOYALTY’S ANGEL * No. 200
12 SPACE ODDITY * Japanese-bred filly who may need time on what we have seen at trials. 33

.

Race 3

Selections; 4 MAJESTIC MOMENTS – 5 RIEDEL – 2 DANNY – 6 YES BABA
The form for this race is simple enough; put a line through ZAC BENEVOLENT and keep the rest safe as all can win. So obviously value will play a part in our punting selections on race-day with the likes of DANNY and REIDEL likely to be good each-way options given they both come off shockers. A couple of shockers in DANNY’s case but Froggy Newitt onboard in what is a suitable race and grade has him under notice. Another at value could be YES BABA who also comes off a below par performance. In his favour is the trip, surface and company so look out for an improved performance with a tongue-tie added. But it is his stablemate, MAJESTIC MOMENTS who is the one to beat. The 3YO looks smarter than a few and looks well-placed over the mile on the Poly after a strong recent trial. Do your best!

1 BOB *** Could make excuses last start but will need luck from wide gate. 4.00
2 DANNY *** Given no chance last start and this looks suitable to show his best. 10
3 DAAD’S THE WAY ** Just fair last start but always pay to keep safe in this type of race. 12
4 MAJESTIC MOMENTS *** Smart 3YO who trials like this race and surface will suit. Hard to beat. 3.00
5 RIEDEL *** Excuses for poor effort last start and worth another look as did look due. 10
6 YES BABA *** Gets a tongue-tie after showing nothing last start and improves back on three-time winning surface and trip. 12
7 PATERSON ROAD ** Jockey reported issues last start and would give this a shake on best form. 12
8 ZAC BENEVOLENT * No. 100
9 BLOSSOMS SEQUEL *** Won at long odds similar affair last start and have to respect. 10
10 GRAND SEVEN SEAS ** Won when blinkers added last start in easier company and pay to keep safe. 10
11 TONGARIRO ** Not a mile away last start and could be value. 20

.

Race 4

Selections; 2 BATTLE HORSE – 3 FLAMBOYANT – 5 AMI ELEVEN – 7 PUERTO COLONIA
BATTLE HORSE did more than enough at his race debut to think he improves for the outing and can win this Initiation. Matt Kellady – who is riding in good form – stays on and from the better gate he should have no excuses and could even make every post a winner. FLAMBOYANT is another horse with race experience that is due. He placed first-up after a spell and like BATTLE HORSE, should be improved for the outing and right in this. Of the newcomers, AMI ELEVEN and WINNING CAUSE should both debut well. AMI ELEVEN has had plenty of trials and his last effort good enough to think he could give this a shake. Two at odds to keep safe are BLACK LABEL and PUERTO COLONIA who both had excuses last start.

1 KNIGHT’S CHARISMA * Struggles as a rule. 100
2 BATTLE HORSE *** Not beaten far when leading on debut and hard to beat in this. 2.50
3 FLAMBOYANT *** Appreciates first-up run and wins sooner than later. 3.00
4 BLACK LABEL *** Excuses last start and might give a sight at odds back on the Poly with gate 1 a factor. 20
5 AMI ELEVEN *** Plenty of trials under his belt with his most recent good enough to follow on debut. 6.00
6 PRESENT ARMS ** Has trialed OK but like to see some support. 20
7 PUERTO COLONIA *** Excuses last start and worth thought at odds on good debut placing. 20
8 REMEMBER ME ** Trials just fair but have to respect the Laxon/Rodd combination. 20
9 SECRET SPICE * Resuming but prefer over longer. 50
10 WINNING CAUSE *** Trials OK and could a part on debut with light-weight. 6.00

.

Race 5

Selections; 1 BINGO – 11 ZAC STAR DESTROYER – 12 SPICY CAT – 10 PRINCETON
No point in glossing over the fact that this race is a shocker. So much so that a horse that hasn’t placed in nine starts since winning back in May last year gets the on-top nod. And BINGO was his name-O. The 8YO does however drop to Class 5, gets Michael Rodd and is having his first run for a new stable so he could easily show his best and expect him to be flying late if on-song. Also in his favour is most the others with winning hopes are very lowly rated including ZAC STAR DESTROYER, SPICY CAT, PRINCETON, GOOD CHILD and POWERPAC with LUCKY COME and VON SNIZEL also in the winning mix.

1 BINGO *** Changed stables and drops grade. Can make his presence felt late. 12
2 LUCKY COME *** Drawn awkwardly but showed last start he wins in this company sooner than later. 6.00
3 SUVARNABHUMI * Resuming sans blinkers and have to take on trust. 33
4 BRANKSOME * Battles only and exotics look very best. 12
5 STATE TROOPER * Won one of these five starts back but nothing since. 33
6 VON SNITZEL *** Not far away last start and some hope in this weak field. 10
7 POWER KING * Just battles. 33
8 GOOD CHILD *** Did some work from wide gate last start so pay to ignore as will be in this for a very long time. 7.00
9 POWERPAC *** Dead-heated before losing on protest at long odds last start and have to respect. 12
10 PRINCETON *** Better effort last start and cheeky run expected from the ace. 20
11 ZAC STAR DESTROYER *** Veteran in good enough for to win a weak race like this. 4.00
12 SPICY CAT *** Just missed last start and gets another chance 4.00
13 RED SENSATION * Maiden and no. 100
14 FANTASTIC WARRIOR * No. 100

.

Race 6

Selections; 2 BIGCAT RHAPSODY – 5 CHI LIN – 4 GOLDEN JADE – 3 GRAND PARIS
While a couple of maidens look due and certainly well-placed to knock in their first win, a Class dropper in BIGCAT RHAPSODY could be the one to beat. The well-bred but underperformed 6YO has won twice in Singapore in KSD company on this track (1700m and 1900m) and while not really threatening of late, he should grow a leg in Class 5 and show up (hopefully at odds). The two maidens mentioned – GOLDEN JADE and CHI LIN – both look like winning this preparation with the latter retaining the services of Munro which could be a pointer. Throw in AGELESS and GRAND PARIS but really hard to be confident in this race.

1 AGELESS *** Excuses last start (saddle) and worth a look with switch to senior hoop. 5.00
2 BIGCAT RHAPSODY *** Significant drop in Class and will be more than competitive in this field. 12
3 GRAND PARIS *** In form and can win if he does a few things right. 8.00
4 GOLDEN JADE *** Maiden who has just missed at his last couple and gets another chance. 3.00
5 CHI LIN *** Another maiden who looks due and this trip may suit. 6.00
6 WEOWNA FLYER * Struggled since last win. 33
7 WINNING SUCCESS * Will run a cheeky race but likely to be found out late. 33
8 GYPSY STAR ** Nothing last start but will work into this late if having a good day. 20
9 MYSTICAL DIAMOND * Struggling. 33
10 SUPER VELOX ** 60 start maiden who went desperately close last start. 12
11 DOS EQUIS ** Usually competitive and worth thought in exotics. 12

.

Race 7

Selections; 2 BOURBON GOLDMAN – 5 TAFFETAS – 4 IN FACT – 1 GOODPACK
It’s well documented that BOURBON GOLDMAN has yet to win past 1200m but given he looked a good thing beaten last start over this trip, he gets his chance. Zuriman and his 2kg claim replace Nunes and with a bit of luck from the widest gate, he can win this. In his favour is that the speed in the race – GOODPACK – has drawn just inside him in gate 8 and hopefully everything falls into place for young Zuriman. TAFFETAS on the other hand has drawn ideally in 1. The mare has been in good form of late and looks well-placed back over a mile on the Poly after racing against Zac Spirit last start over 1400m. IN FACT is also well-placed in this company and his form obviously holds up here while GOODPACK will be the one to run down and should be respected.

1 GOODPACK *** Racing in terrific form this campaign and looks very well-placed with 3kg claimer. 5.00
2 BOURBON GOLDMAN *** Looked a good thing beaten last start and will make his presence felt late. 6.00
3 DUJARDIN ** Not far away in the Polytrack Mile and will find this company more to his liking. 12
4 IN FACT *** In fine form and should get all the favours from gate 2. 5.00
5 TAFFETAS *** Far from disgraced behind Zac Spirit and goes close back on recent winning surface. 8.00
6 FUJIN BRIGHT ** Usually in the mix and worth thought if value. 12
7 CANNON HILL * Needs to lift on recent efforts but the type that can surprise. 33
8 MESHMAKER ** Form OK but this is as tough as he wants it. 12
9 NATION THEATRE * Nothing wrong with form but needs it easier to win. 20

.

Race 8

Selections; 10 SUPER WINNER – 2 GOOD NEWS – 1 FLAK JACKET – 3 EAGLE STORM
On a day that would have seen some average races run and won, this Kranji Stakes C looks an absolutely beauty with some very nice types to do battle. In fact it’s hard to know where to start but a horse undefeated on this surface – SUPER WINNER – looks as good as place to start as any. The 3YO has drawn wide but given his three good wins on this surface, he could just be one out of the box on the Poly. GOOD NEWS goes better than OK on this surface as well. His five career wins have all been on the Poly and he must go close after a nice turf effort at his last start. Something has to give price wise so keep an eye on FLAK JACKET resuming, IDEAL GUIDE at his first start on the Poly, last start winner EAGLE STORM and the first emergency, RUAPEHU. The field has depth so go wide in exotics.

1 FLAK JACKET *** Smart type resuming after a terrific run of form that included a strong Poly win. Big show. 6.00
2 GOOD NEWS *** In spanking form and very hard to beat back on winning surface. 3.40
3 EAGLE STORM *** Honest and pay to follow from gate 1 after nice last start win. 6.00
4 JOYFUL MELODY * Hard to have on first-up run but better suited on the Poly. 100
5 IDEAL GUIDE *** Excuses not to win this trip last start and pay to keep safe. 8.00
6 FLYING ZERO ** Not far off them last start and in this a long way. 11
7 GATO NEGRO ** Always worth a look and can get out to value. Keep safe. 12
8 PHILANTHROPIST ** Very much appreciates first-up run and should improve lengths. 100
9 PURE TACTICS ** Not a mile away last start and gets back on to his preferred surface. 12
10 SUPER WINNER *** Freshened with nice trial and is undefeated on this surface. 8.00
11 MAC VOLKS ** This is tougher than his last start Class 4 win but have to respect on this surface. 12
12 GOLDEN CURL ** Another who will find this company tougher than last start but pay to include in exotics. 20
13 RUAPEHU *** Smart enough type resuming and worth thought if he gets a start. 10
14 CORONET PEAK ** Will be the storming late. 20

.

Race 9

Selections; 5 LIGN EM UP – 3 BEST NINE – 1 BLUE DIAMOND – 6 CONGO ZANDOR
Nothing jumps off the page in this Class 4 and as such an progressive type in LIGN EM UP gets a good chance to win at this level. The 4YO hasn’t run a bad race on the Poly so will appreciate getting back onto the all-weather and should be hard to beat (with support) with John Powell up from gate 4. BEST NINE looks the obvious danger as he guns for a hat-trick of wins. Yes, he is up in Class after two Kranji Stakes D wins but given the lack of winning hopes in this race, he is a big show to win with Davey Flores up. Of the rest, BLUE DIAMOND will find this easier than a few runs of late so he has to be respected with the likes of LOUEY VELOCE, DANNY RICARDO, CONGO ZANDOR, SUPER EIGHT and SUNDAY SUN some hope on best form.

1 BLUE DIAMOND *** Recent form ordinary but drops to winning grade and gets the ace and claim. Keep safe. 6.00
2 DANNY RICARDO ** Blinkers off and while form is good prefer over longer and turf. 7.00
3 BEST NINE *** Up in grade after two good Poly wins but pay to follow while in form. 4.00
4 LOUEY VELOCE ** Winkers off after hitting the wall last start but worth some thought on good debut run on this surface. 6.00
5 LIGN EM UP *** Will enjoy getting back on the Poly and can continue good run of form. 3.00
6 CONGO ZANDOR ** Super effort last start similar affair but like to see over longer. 20
7 DRAGON * Not far away tow back this trip but better over longer. 33
8 SUNDAY SUN ** Resuming after two poor runs but recent trial suggests he could show something. 20
9 SUPER EIGHT ** Returned not striding last start but pay to keep safe on best form. 20
10 TOMORROW’S GOLD * Maiden who needs easier. 100
11 CHRISTMAS * Resuming sans blinkers and needs longer. 50
12 OCEAN POWER * Maiden who needs easier. 33

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
