Singapore Racing – Friday

Friday 13 June

Mycaptainoblivious

Mycaptainoblivious

Not a great deal of depth in the nine races from Singapore on Friday night and as such it may be a good meeting for finding some outright winners. It will start early with only two genuine chances in race 1 – MASTERMIND and REACH FOR THE SUN – and the pair will definitely dominate the betting and most likely the finish.

MASTERMIND has the runs on the board in Singapore with an eye-catching second at his race debut. He led on that occasion and from gate 3 with the experienced Davey Flores on-board, expect another bold run. REACH FOR THE SUN makes his Singapore debut in this Initiation Poly sprint but did arrive arrive at Kranji with six places from six career starts – a couple of those on a synthetic track in Australia.

The 3YO has trailed well and gets Manoel Nunes and gate 1 which could be a winning combination. Elsewhere on the card, MYCAPTAINOBLIVIOUS looks very well placed back on the Poly when resuming in Class 3 company (race 7). The 4YO is two-from-two on the all weather track and a recent trial with a tongue-tie added suggests he is ready to fire first-up.

.

Best Bets; (MYCAPTAINOBLIVIOUS race 7, win), (BATTLE BOY race 2, each-way) and (MASTERMIND/REACH FOR THE SUN race 1, forecast).

Race 1

Selections; 5 MASTERMIND – 6 REACH FOR THE SUN – 1 ANGSANA – 3 GEESON MASTER
An Initiation with little depth kicks things off on the all poly programme. There should be plenty of speed in this 1000m flutter with ANGSANA, INFERMO and MASTERMIND all likely to burn plenty of petrol early. Whilst not discounting the other flyers, MASTERMIND was very strong on debut before being run down by ORIGIN FAST. He trialed well recently, Davey Flores replaces Marcus Au and from the good alley he is the one to beat. The interesting runner is REACH FOR THE SUN. By California Dane, he was placed at all six starts in Australia including two narrow defeats on the synthetic at Geelong; he trials nicely and with the blinkers and Manoel Nunes from the ace could sprint well fresh – watch for support. ANGSANA put in a much improved effort last start when he led and fought on well over 1200m; with John Powell to ride from a good gate he should give a sight. GEESON MASTER also has some ability and will find this easier than chasing SPALATO – he could show up.

1 ANGSANA ** Much improved effort last start when he led and fought on well over 1200m. With John Powell to ride from a good gate, should give a sight. 10
2 FANTASTIC WARRIOR * Neither fantastic nor a warrior. 200
3 GEESON MASTER ** Had some support when spanked by SPALATO last start over 1000m and has trialed since. This is easier. 10
4 KEVIN ELEVEN * Never in it last start. Showed some speed at first start and in trial but needs to improve. 200
5 MASTERMIND *** Led clearly before being run down last start. Trialed well recently. Gets Davey Flores and will be hard to pass. 2.20
6 REACH FOR THE SUN *** Blinkers on. By California Dane and a half brother to HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN and GEIGER COUNTER. Was placed at all six starts in Australia including twice on synthetic without winning. Trials very well, has the ace and Nunes. Watch market. 2.00
7 INFERMO ** Speedy and should give a sight in this. 1000m suits. 12
8 ROYAL FLUSH * Did nothing on debut and wants much longer. 200
9 HENRIETTA * Fair effort at only start but these look too sharp. 200
10 MIGHTY GLORY ** 2YO by O’Reilly out of a Dynaformer mare who won over a mile in France. Won trial in very slow time. Could need experience. Watch for support. 25

Race 2

Selections; 2 BATTLE BOY – 3 FLUTZ – 6 LORD GRANTHAM – 1 SPOT ON
A Maiden over a mile and most of these have been trying for a while and know each other well. In these races few have much turn of foot and tempo is important and hopefully COURT MAGICIAN will go out and be the bunny. From the nice alley that should suit FLUTZ and with Corey Brown up replacing Lisa Allpress, he should tag along and get his chance. The stablemate LORD GRANTHAM is not the most reliable but was placed last outing and will have benefited from a recent trial. But BATTLE BOY ran a good race in Class 4 company on the turf over 1400m last outing and at his most recent start at this distance in this Grade on turf he led and ran third to ZIPANGU; he has only had one previous poly run but from the nice alley he should get a gun run all the way. SPOT ON is a perpetual place-getter, he will need a a good, solid, even tempo; with 59kg his draw does not help but if he gets cover he can finish off well. AUREUS has some early speed and should be up the front for a long way, he is on trial at 1600m but should be in the finish. ROCK SHOW and HOST THE NATION plod away and will appreciate a solid speed. TEOCHEW BARRISTER has had plenty of chances, he will get back but could be the one closing late.

1 SPOT ON *** Never a threat last start in KSD company over 1700m. Has been placed eight times from 18 starts twice at a mile. Has to carry 59kg but should give a sight. 5.50
2 BATTLE BOY *** Tongue tie off. Good effort last start in Class 4. Led and ran 3rd at last mile run on turf. Only 2nd run on poly but should get a gun run. 4.00
3 FLUTZ *** Has been trying for a while. Solid effort last start and usually races handy. Corey Brown replaces Lisa Allpress and should be on the speed all the way. 4.00
4 AUREUS *** Ran on from well back last start over 1400m on turf. Best runs have been when ridden on the speed. On trial at 1600m. 10
5 ROCK SHOW ** Battled away last start over 1200m and this distance should suit. 14
6 LORD GRANTHAM *** Far from reliable but placed last outing and recent trial was solid. Likes the poly mile. 6.00
7 COURT MAGICIAN * Faded last start but usually on the speed and could give a sight. 25
8 HOST THE NATION ** Having his 19th start as a maiden but regularly finishes in the top five and will be thereabouts. 12
9 JUSEAGLEYE * Yet to place in seven starts though this looks more suitable. 25
10 TEOCHEW BARRISTER *** Winkers off. Disappointing horse whose last two runs over shorter journeys have been good. Stepping up the the mile and could be closing late. Keep very safe. 14
11 JEM JET * No form. 50
12 STYLISH LAD * Improvement noted last start. Could surprise. 33
13 SEA OF LOVE * Not far away last start but prefer on the turf. 33
14 EXCEPTIONAL CHOICE * Only good run was over 1200m on the poly. Take on trust. 100

.

Race 3

Selections; 1 SMART IDEA – 7 PROFOUND – 5 PHANTOM KNIGHT – 6 HOFBURG PALACE
A Class 4 over 1600m and Manoel Nunes resumes his association with SMART IDEA who drops in Grade; from three rides at a mile he has a runaway win, a 2nd and a 3rd and should race well again. Laurie Laxon has a good hand with PROFOUND and HOFBURG PALACE; PROFOUND is dropping back from a good run over 2000m on turf; the 1600m on the poly is far more suitable and with only 53.5kg and a nice alley Saifudin should give him every chance. HOFBURG PALACE has been placed at his only two poly runs and is stepping up to a mile for the first time; he is awkwardly drawn but if Dan Beasley can get him cover he should be closing late. The winkers come off the veteran PHANTOM KNIGHT with Aslam claiming 1kg he is well weighted and suited this Class, surface and distance; if there is a tempo set by the likes of U GOT IT and Laxon’s third runner, JAPPANELLA, he will be closing late. Of rest WHAT’S DAT and GREEN JACKET could be thereabouts.

1 SMART IDEA *** Usually thereabouts and this race suits having two wins at the mile. Has a great record with Nunes and should be handy all the way. 3.50
2 WARSPIRIT * Recent runs disappointing but this grade and distance suit. 20
3 IKING * Tongue tie on. Disappointing horse. Take on trust. 33
4 HEAR ME * Won at cricket score odds first up then never sighted last start. Has won twice at 1600m and if in the mood could make his presence felt. 16
5 PHANTOM KNIGHT *** Winkers off, well weighted and suited this Class, surface and distance. Excuses last start and if he If he gets a tempo will be closing late. 4.50
6 HOFBURG PALACE ** Consistent and rarely far away. Stepping up to the mile and only win was on turf. May need luck from the draw but should be in the finish once again. 7.00
7 PROFOUND *** Battled on well last start over 2000m on turf and better suited this surface, grade and distance. May be his turn. 5.00
8 U GOT IT ** Well down in the ratings and could lead and run a cheeky race. 12
9 WHAT’S DAT ** Only wins were on poly over shorter. Has fought on over 1700m and 1600m at past two outings. If given cover will be finishing off late. 14
10 GREEN JACKET ** Battles away and whilst he has yet to win on the poly should make a bid. 14
11 JAPPANELLA * Needs to lift on recent form. 33
12 GOOD BUDDY * Rarely wins but never far away and with no weight another placing is on the cards. 20

.

Race 4

Selections; 2 RICHEAST – 3 SACRED CROWN – 1 MAGICAL SUNSET – 4 STREET RUFFIAN
An unexciting Class 5 over 1200m with plenty of chances involved. The speed should come from ROMA who is widely drawn but should be able to cross and with Zaki up, the maiden mare will give plenty of cheek. Another maiden, MORRIS, will also probably cross from the wide gate and this should ensure a solid speed. This could suit the grey RICHEAST who should get a nice sit just off the pace. He is resuming but has been kept fresh with barrier trials; suited this grade, surface and distance with Ivaldo Santana up, he will be hard to hold out. SACRED CROWN drops back to his winning grade after showing decent Class 4 form; with the claim for TH Koh should be right in the finish. MAGICAL SUNSET can be tardy at the start but his recent form is good; with Aslam up he is suited here and will be closing late. In a typical Class 5 race, the usual suspects STREET RUFFIAN, GOOD BOSS, VOLKOV and LUCKY STRATEGY could get in the mix.

1 MAGICAL SUNSET *** Can be tardy at the start but recent form good. Suited here and will be closing late. 5.00
2 RICHEAST *** Resuming but has been kept fresh with barrier trials. Suited this grade, surface and distance. Will be hard to hold out. 4.00
3 SACRED CROWN *** Drops in Grade after solid 4th over 1100m in Class 4. Much better suited here and should race well with 2kg claim. 5.00
4 STREET RUFFIAN *** Not far away at past few outings in better company. Seven time winner who could get in the finish. A solid pace will suit. 8.00
5 LUCKY STRATEGY ** Blinkers on. Maiden resuming. Recent trial sound and could sprint well fresh. Watch for support. 10
6 WAIRAKEI ** Battles away and will be helped by engagement of Nunes. 14
7 VOLKOV * Speedy and should be handy all the way. 16
8 INCREDIBLE HULK * This is much too short. 33
9 GOOD BOSS ** Has the ace but usually misses the start and runs on strongly without threatening. 12
10 MORRIS ** Has speed and was near the lead for a long time last start. Poorly drawn but will be on the speed for a long way. 14
11 BALLET DANCER * Yet to place in 11 starts. 33
12 ROMA ** Long-term maiden mare poorly drawn but with Zaki up likely to go forward and give a bold sight. 14
13 SARAWI * Last two efforts poor and needs to improve. 50
14 GYPSY STAR ** Gets miles back and runs on. Chance if she gets a start. 20

.

Race 5

Selections; 3 ONE RAR – 1 ILUMINADO – 2 TIGER MASTER – 5 CLUTHA LAD
A very tricky KSC over 1800m where tactics may play a major role. If the pace is true this will suit both ILUMINADO and CLUTHA LAD. ILUMINADO is honest and got all the favours last start to win. To get some weight off, Steven Burridge has swapped Dan Beasley for Noh Senari and he should race well again. CLUTHA LAD scored well in Class 4 company over 1700m last start, Manoel Nunes stays on, down 2kg he should race well again. ONE RAR failed on turf last start but he beat ILUMINADO two starts back over 1900m; this is similar and he should make a bold bid. TIGER MASTER disappointed last start; he gets an inexperienced apprentice but may go forward and with the claim be hard to pass. GOLDEN LARK was placed behind CLUTHA LAD, Corey Brown takes over from the 4kg claimer and he should be closing late. In a very open affair, the Takaoka pair MITRE PEAK and BOWIE KNIFE could be nuisance value.

1 ILUMINADO *** Honest and got all the favours last start to win. Swaps Beasley for Noh Senari but is well in at the weights. 4.00
2 TIGER MASTER *** Disappointed last start and inexperienced apprentice takes the ride. Will be hard to pass if he gets a soft lead. 4.00
3 ONE RAR *** Failed on turf last start. Beat ILUMINADO over 1900m two back and should make a bold bid. 4.00
4 MITRE PEAK ** Has run bold races at past two starts. Should get a gun run from the ace but meets ILUMINADO worse off for a beating. 10
5 CLUTHA LAD ** Scored well in Class 4 company over 1700m last start. Nunes stays on, down 2kg and should race well again. 4.00
6 BOWIE KNIFE * Battles away and with Zaki up may well decide to lead. 20
7 YOU DA ONE * Only battled last outing and needs to improve. 20
8 GOLDEN LARK ** Placed behind CLUTHA LAD last start but meets him worse at the weights. Gets Corey Brown instead of apprentice and should be running on late. 10

.

Race 6

Selections; 6 POWERPAC – 3 FANTASTIC BOY – 2 ENZO – 10 CHINESE TYCOON
A race in two halves with four legitimate winning hopes – POWERPAC, ENZO, FANTASTIC BOY and CHINESE TYCOON – and we could forget the rest. In saying that ARAPUNI might be one to keep safe with the experienced John Powell going on-board but at this stage a tote watch will be the best guide on his chances. Of those with winning hopes, POWERPAC should make use of a good gate and with Davey Flores on-board, he will be right in this finish. ENZO showed last start that he can win on the Poly and after drawing the ace, he has to be a big show in this weak field. FANTASTIC BOY will be flying late and given we can forget his last start on the turf, he could win this at an each-way quote. CHINESE TYCOON has the form to win but the fact he is nudging 50 starts without saluting is a serious concern.

1 ARAPUNI ** Recent form hopeless but this race is weak and gets John Powell. 12
2 ENZO *** Won last start similar affair and has to be a big show here. 4.00
3 FANTASTIC BOY *** Ignore last start as the Poly is his caper. Can win. 4.00
4 ASTROHEAT * Yet to place at nine starts but showed improvement last start. 33
5 JAWARA * Led last start when blinkers added but failed. 33
6 POWERPAC *** Ready to win a race like this and very much appreciates a better gate. 3.00
7 FOUNTAIN * Supported last start and showed little so have to take on trust. 20
8 GOLDEN ALONG * Form terrible and pushed at recent trial. 33
9 PISTOL DAWN * Struggles with the 12 steps. 200
10 CHINESE TYCOON *** Form good enough to win a race like this with blinkers back on. 5.00
11 LUCKY BANKER ** Excuse snot to finish closer last start and pay to include at odds. 33
12 WIN THE DAY * No. 200
13 MAGNIFICENT KID * Last couple ordinary but can include on OK form prior. 33
14 PLAY ON *** In-form and some hope if he gets a start. 8.00

.

Race 7

Selections; 7 MYCAPTAINOBLIVIOUS – 2 HAMMER DOWN – 1 CASH DOT COM – 3 DOUBLE STAR
An interesting race given the main hopes at the top of the weights have the runs on the board at this (and higher) levels but some in-form horses down the ratings look well suited with nothing to carry on their backs. Those horses who should very much appreciate the company are CASH DOT COM and HAMMER DOWN. CASH DOM COM won two before leading them up last start and is in this a very long way from gate 4. HAMMER DOWN raced in KSA company last start and as he placed behind the smart FAALTLESS two back in this grade, he improves lengths here and well worth a look. The best of the lightweights and perhaps the most progressive is MYCAPTAINOBLIVIOUS and he could beat them all. The Captain Rio 4YO is two-from-two on the Polytrack and showed enough at a recent trial he goes very close to keeping that record in tact with a tongue-tie added to his gear. Of the rest, DOUBLE STAR showed last start he is always a show and pay to go wide in exotics with the likes of CODIGO and GATO NEGRO some chance at value.

1 CASH DOT COM *** Set the race up for swoopers last start and happy to give another chance. 4.00
2 HAMMER DOWN *** Appreciates the drop back to suitable company and goes very close. 5.00
3 DOUBLE STAR *** Showed last start why he always has to be respected. 5.00
4 THISISIT * Showed little at his first run back and want to see some support. 33
5 BAZINGA * Race suits but form poor. 100
6 GATO NEGRO ** Plenty of excuses last start and could show up at odds. 33
7 MYCAPTAINOBLIVIOUS *** Won his last two on the Poly and recent trial suggests he give this a shake with tongue-tie added. 4.00
8 SPEED DEMON ** Form better than it reads and another that could be included for value with blinkers off. 25
9 CODIGO ** Hasn’t won since Singapore debut some nine starts back but always in the mix. 6.00
10 DOUBLE CASH ** Won over 1200m last start and better over this trip so has to go close. 12
11 LEAVE ME ALONE ** Just battled last start but previous form – including a Poly win – has him under notice with no weight. 33

.

Race 8

Selections; 2 DANNY – 1 CAN’T TOUCH ME – 10 GRAVLAX – 3 GALLANT HEIGHTS
Some battlers in this field but a few that are ready to win suggesting the betting will be solid. It could even be a race in two as far as punters go with CAN’T TOUCH ME and DANNY both big winning shows. DANNY is the interesting runner given he showed last start he wins in Class 5 sooner than later but is not often seen on the Poly. So while his lack of poly form is a concern, the gelding did trial well recently and that could be a good enough pointer to follow. CAN’T TOUCH ME is the form runner and probably starts favourite. He is due to win again and from gate one, Barend Vorster will be confident of a big run. One at possible odds is the oft disappointing GRAVLAX. The long-term maiden should have won by now given some of the form he has shown and while it’s impossible to be confident, a recent nice trial has him under notice. The rest have to improve although GALLANT HEIGHTS is back in a suitable grade.
1 CAN’T TOUCH ME *** Due, drawn the ace and has to go very close. 4.00
2 DANNY *** Not often seen on the Poly but wins this grade sooner than later and could be hard to hold out. 4.00
3 GALLANT HEIGHTS ** Hasn’t run on at his last couple but very much appreciates drop back to winning grade. 7.50
4 BEVERLY HILL * Battles away and tested from an awkward gate. 33
5 REAL GOODMAN ** Hard to follow but won one of these three starts back and appreciates gate 2. 12
6 BIG HARVEST ** Dour but always battling away late so a must for exotics. 6.00
7 RADIANT ROI * Hard to have on recent form. 50
8 ABYSS * Appreciates the trip and Poly but hard to have on recent form. 33
9 SILVER FLY * Ran on OK last start but easier to ignore from wide gate. 20
10 GRAVLAX *** Long-term maiden but race suits and recent good trial suggest he could salute. 6.00
11 RICH BORN ** Needs to lead and possible of a very cheeky race. 10
12 FABERGE * Another egg. 100
13 SILENT POWER *** Appreciates first-up run in unsuitable race and improves lengths. 12
14 BAY OF ISLAND *** Always an each-way show this type of race. 12

.

Race 9

Selections; 4 PURE TACTICS – 1 TIM – 3 SUPER SPUR – 8 ROUGH DANCE
Another race with absolutely no depth and happy to think only a few have genuine winning hopes. PURE TACTICS and TIM look the stand-outs and of the two it might be PURE TACTICS who gets the punters support. The 4YO gelding’s two wins have been over this trip and surface and comes into this in fine form with excuses at his last start. A freshen-up after that race with a nice recent trial under his belt could be just what the doctor ordered. But TIM drops in grade and could be the testing material. Trainer Laurie Laxon has Shafiq booked and with any luck from the wide gate, he will be right in this finish. The winner should come from one of the two mention but SUPER SPUR goes OK when his saddle stays put and ROUGH DANCE did enough late last start over 1000m to think he plays a part late.

1 TIM *** In solid form and very much appreciates drop to Class 4. 3.00
2 MACHFIVE ** Just battled last start this company but worth another look in exotics. 12
3 SUPER SPUR ** Back in trip a smart move and some hope although saddle slipping an issue. 4.00
4 PURE TACTICS *** Excuses last start and previous form and nice recent trial has him winning races like this. 2.70
5 PITSTOP ** Not a lot of poly form to go on but appreciates first-up run and company. Watch tote. 20
6 TAVAN BOGD * Very disappointing last two after promising first run back. No. 33
7 FRAGRANCE EMPIRE * Happy to wait for Class 5. 33
8 ROUGH DANCE ** Ran on well last start and appreciates extra 200m. Exotics. 20
9 GYPSY MAGIC * Struggled last few and hard to have. 50
10 PURE WHITE * Maiden who has shown glimpses but needs to improve with tongue-tie added. 20
11 ARATIATIA * Resuming and might need longer before we consider. 33

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
