Singapore Racing – Friday

Friday 12 June

Castor wins in Singapore on 27 June 2014

Castor (Troy See) storms up to defeat Exceed Express

It looks a fair night for punters, however, with a few races looking like having a choice between two or three, it might be handy to pull the right rein early. Case in point is race 1 on the card where it very well be a virtual toss-up between two Class droppers in KING SAVINSKY and SINGSURAT.

Both will grow the proverbial leg dropping to Class 5 and it will be interesting to see which stable thinks their charge can win in easier company – maybe both! Hopefully there is no such dilemma for favourite backers in race 2 on the card and FANTASTIC MAN just wins.

The 3YO has been heavily supported at his two career starts – he jumped as the even money pop on debut and not much over that quote at start two – but didn’t miss by much last time out and should really win this.

In fact the field is that weak he should go off in the red but again, if an odds-on-good-thing is your caper, he looks the obvious winner. Elsewhere on the card some very good trial form might tip us into a winner or two at value. CASTOR (race 6) was disappointing in this grade last start but a subsequent trial suggests he can more than just improve on that effort and a win would not surprise.

frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120In the lucky last STRUBELI returns after having issues (irregular heart rhythm) back in 2014 and given what he has shown at some recent trials – in particular his most recent outing – a big run would not surprise. Corey Brown rides – that looks a positive move – and hopefully a result for trial followers to close what could have been a good night of racing.

Race 1

Selections; 2 SINGSURAT – 1 KING SAVINSKY – 9 RIGHT IS RIGHT – 10 STANZOUT
A book-end type punting affair with two Class droppers in KING SAVINSKY and SINGSURAT up against two last start winners in RIGHT IS RIGHT and STANZOUT down in the weights. Starting at the top, KING SAVINSKY gets his chance to break his Singapore duck. The former Kiwi is yet to bother the scorer at 11 starts in Singapore but a drop to Class 5 after a run of steady form in better company suggests he gets his chance. SINGSURAT also gets his chance back in his only winning Class. The 3YO has shown enough in some good fields to suggest he is more than up to this with John Powell from gate 1 a bonus. You have to respect last start winners so RIGHT IS RIGHT comes under notice after knocking in his maiden win at start 19 and STANZOUT has to be a factor with no weight. You can keep most others involved in exotics in what looks an even field.

1 KING SAVINSKY *** Significant drop in grade and recent good form suggests he gives this a shake. 8.00
2 SINGSURAT *** Been thereabouts of late but back to winning trip and Class has him the one to beat. 4.00
3 RON ** Start costly last time out and should be more than competitive with senior hoop a factor. 6.00
4 ZENZERO ** Pay to ignore last start as switch back to Poly should see him involved throughout. 12
5 PURE RABID * Goes good enough on his day but issues of late and have to take on trust. 20
6 PURE WHITE ** Maiden who will win one of these sooner than later. 8.00
7 GRAND PARIS ** Always a show in races like this but like to see some stable support. 12
8 SIMPANG ** Enjoys the Poly and will worth thought for value in exotics. 20
9 RIGHT IS RIGHT *** Broke overdue maiden status last start and pay to follow with light-weight. 6.00
10 STANZOUT *** Ran on well to win this Class last start and will figure late again. 5.00

.

Race 2

Selections; 5 FANTASTIC MAN – 8 BAIL OUT – 1 GREAT NINTH – 6 MISS ELYSIUM
While we have made a winning case for a couple of other horses, FANTASTIC MAN is the one the punters will flock to and all things being equal, he should win. The 3YO has been supported very heavily at his two race starts on some strong trial form and while disappointing not to have won for followers, he went close last start and this field is extremely weak. Corey Brown jumps on and expect a very positive ride from the experienced and in-form Aussie hoop. If things don’t go to plan it will pay to keep the 2YO BAIL OUT safe with blinkers on first time and GREAT NINTH had excuses last start so is also a show on his form prior to that run. The only newcomer in the field – MISS ELYSIUM – has trialed OK and must be included somewhere but FANTASTIC MAN the only one to be on.

1 GREAT NINTH ** Issues last start when supported so ignore and take on solid race and trial form prior. 5.00
2 MR BLOSSOM ** Not a mile away last start similar affair and pay to respect from better gate. 12
3 BANK ON ME * See Greek financial institutions. 100
4 DRAGON INFINITY * Struggles. 100
5 FANTASTIC MAN *** Heavily supported at two starts and not far away last run. Hard to beat with tongue-tie off. 1.40
6 MISS ELYSIUM ** Trialed well enough to consider on debut in a race with no depth. 8.00
7 LOYALTY’S ANGEL * No. 100
8 BAIL OUT ** Slightly disappointing last start but debut was good and could give a sight with no weight and blinkers on. 9.00
9 JET STRIKER ** Appreciates debut run, gate 1 and light-weight. Exotics. 33

.

Race 3

Selections; 2 INVINCIBLE GOLD – 1 BOB – 3 FORTUNE WINNER – 4 JUST NAME IT
There is a lot to like about INVINCIBLE GOLD. Not only is the 3YO honest – a great trait to have in this game – he won last start like a horse that can go on with the job and happy to think he is better than Class 4. Barend Vorster stays on-board and he should get every chance from gate 6. BOB probably starts favourite and is due. The succinctly named NZbred 4YO has been in terrific form without a result of late but looks the benchmark with Michael Rodd – who won on him back in February – a good booking. FORTUNE WINNER broke his maiden status last start and gave Mario Esposito his first winner in Singapore and the 3YO can go on with the job while JUST NAME IT is always a show and might supply value in what looks a great race.

1 BOB *** Not far away in similar affair last start and gets his chance here. 3.00
2 INVINCIBLE GOLD *** Honest, won very well in albeit slightly easier company last start and can win again. 3.00
3 FORTUNE WINNER *** Broke overdue maiden status in fine form last start and more than up to this company. 3.50
4 JUST NAME IT *** Always an each-way show in races like this and happy to follow at value. 10
5 ACROSS THE SEA ** Improved when blinkers added last start and can include in exotics. 20
6 SWIFT ** Hit some form over 1200m of late and handles the mile so keep safe with cheeky race expected. 12
7 CAIYAYA ** Getting on in years but goes very well when right. 20
8 WINNING STAR ** Recent form reads badly but appreciates the mile so look for improvement. 33
9 DRAPPIER * Needs easier. 100
10 CALLIDE RIVER * Excuses not to finish closer last start but prefer in Class 5. 50

.

Race 4

Selections; 1 THIRD PRINCE – 6 GOLD STRIKER – 4 REMEMBER ME – 11 PRINCESS ZOLA
They backed THIRD PRINCE in Kranji Stakes D company last start and while he didn’t win, the effort to place behind Invincible Gold was a good one and he looks hard to beat back in an Initiation event over 1400m. Corey Brown takes over from M Rodd and from gate 1 the Aussie hoop should get all the favours. GOLD STRIKER improved lengths last start stepping up to this trip and looks the danger. The 3YO led on that occasion and with Harry Kassim up, another cheeky run is expected. REMEMBER ME has down little wrong at five career starts and while drawn wide for this, he again looks the benchmark with Mario Esposito on-board. Throw in PRINCESS ZOLA as an each-way hope at odds and go wide in exotics.

1 THIRD PRINCE *** Did well to place in KSD company last start this trip and looks very hard to beat back in maiden company. 3.00
2 BALLISTICS ** Finds plenty of trouble but shown enough promise to follow. 12
3 LOST A SOCK * Form hopeless but gets blinkers and loses tongue-tie. 100
4 REMEMBER ME *** Foot in the till and right in this finish with any luck from wide gate. 3.50
5 LUCKY COIN ** Worked to the line well last start and extra 200m will be in his favour. Keep safe. 12
6 GOLD STRIKER *** Showed last start at odd this distance is his caper and gives this a shake with Harry Kassim up. 6.00
7 TIGER BAY ** Needed to do more for the support last start and gate no help today. 20
8 HENRY THE EIGHTH ** Looked every chance similar affair last start but a must for exotics. 12
9 VICTORY * Not a mile away at long odds last start but need to lift again. 33
10 SPEED CRAFT ** All sorts of excuses at two race starts so look for improvement with race experience. 100
11 PRINCESS ZOLA *** Excuses last start and happy to think she plays a part in this finish at each-way odds. 15
12 MOLLY BROWNE ** Disappointing with support last start over the mile and not sure back in trip in her favour. 12
13 BLACK DIAMOND * No. 100
14 VICTORY COMMANDS * No. 100

.

Race 5

Selections; 2 NINTH AVENUE – 1 CHI LIN – 4 JUSEAGLEYE – 5 DOS EQUIS
Trainer Steven Lam has more runners in this race (CHI LIN, NINTH AVENUE and REAL GOODMAN) than he has had wins this season (two) and looks to have a strong hand in what is a weak race. Making matters tough for punters is the likely favourite, CHI LIN, is a maiden but looks the one to beat on paper. Mario Esposito gets another good booking and from gate 1, the affable Italian could add to his winning tally. However, the veteran NINTH AVENUE showed enough last start to suggest the 9YO has more to offer late in his career and a recent trial good enough to get on-board here. REAL GOODMAN is a long-shot hope but could offer value in exotics. Of the non-Lam runners, JUSEAGLEYE put in a very good effort last start and he goes close on that run while DOS EQUIS is always an each-way
show on the Poly.

1 CHI LIN *** Maiden who looks extremely well-placed in this field with gate 1 a bonus. Big show. 2.40
2 NINTH AVENUE *** Showed something last start and subsequent trial looked good. Can win. 6.00
3 NOVEMBER SUCCESS ** Maiden whose best form has been on the turf but should be battling on late. 6.00
4 JUSEAGLEYE *** Turned around some poor form with a big run this company last start and have to follow. 5.00
5 DOS EQUIS *** Tongue-tie off. Recent Poly form good and looks a solid each-way show. 6.00
6 HONKYTONK MAN * Always a risk. 50
7 CLASSIC THUNDER * Long-term maiden and needs to be having a good day. 33
8 NORTH STAR ** Disappointing of late but goes better than a few of these on best form. 33
9 REAL GOODMAN ** Form reads terribly but excuses last start and gives this shake at long odds. 33
10 SUPER VELOX * Tongue-tie on blinkers off. Deck-chairs/Titanic. 33
11 URBAN LEGEND ** Will show up at very long odds in a race like this. But when? 33

.

Race 6

Selections; 2 CASTOR – 1 BRAHMA CIRCUS – 3 HAMMER DOWN – 4 Q NINE MAGIC
It’s extremely hard to go past BRAHMA CIRCUS who refuses to run a bad race and comes into this with a much-deserved last start win under his belt. The Kiwi-bred 3YO has placed seven and won twice from nine career starts and with Corey Brown in red-hot form from gate 5, he is the one to beat again. However, CASTOR goes super on his day and while disappointing last start, a recent strong trial has him under notice. In fact the trial easily good enough to win a race like this and hopefully he is value given he is coming off a poor run. It was a virtual toss-up between the two so make up your own mind. Of the rest, Q NINE MAGIC is another honest sprinter and while yet to win in Singapore, he has gone very close and gets another chance here. For value keep HAMMER DOWN safe as he showed enough last start to follow with back on the Polytrack in his favour. YIN JIE and DR OCTOPUS two others that could surprise and musts for exotics.

1 BRAHMA CIRCUS *** Turned some good form into a well-deserved win last start and pay to keep following. 2.50
2 CASTOR *** Never in the hunt last start with support but subsequent trial very good and can win. 5.00
3 HAMMER DOWN *** Form reads badly but not far away last start and should enjoy being back on the Poly. 12
4 Q NINE MAGIC *** Has done everything bar win at five starts in Singapore and right in this. 3.00
5 YIN JIE ** Disappointing last couple but always a winning show and recent good trial suggests we keep safe. 12
6 ONE UNITED * Beaten a long way into third last start and might find this company tougher. 20
7 FUKU ICHIBAN * Excuses last start but better suited elsewhere. 33
8 DR OCTOPUS ** Should need easier to win but likes the trip and can include in exotics with no weight. 20
9 FARRAND * Not a mile away last start but might be looking for easier. 33
10 HAPPY PRINCESS * No. 100
11 LUCKY GIANT * Resuming after a poor run of form but recent trial OK. 50

.

Race 7

Selections; 2 HUKA FALLS – 5 HYPERNOVA – 4 GOLDEN SAND STEED – 6 CASH ADVANCE
It would be a lot easier to just tick the “field” box in any exotics you have – jackpots and quaddies etc – as it looks impossible to pick the winner with any confidence. In fact you can make a winning case for six of the seven horses in this field (apologies to LIGN EM UP) so something has to give in selections. HUKA FALLS is the class horse in the field and happy to have him on top though. The 13-time winner gets a nice weight pull (2.5kg) on CAVALLO and from gate 2, Michael Rodd should get a few favours. It gets tricky from here but CASH ADVANCE will be value and had excuses in that very same race not to be in the mix with HYPERNOVA and GOLDEN SAND STEED always big shows on the Poly. SOUTHERN BOSS leads the field into the straight and has to be respected. Great race.

1 CAVALLO *** Won two stats back this trip with 57kg so have to respect. 5.00
2 HUKA FALLS *** Gets a 2.5kg swing in the weights when beaten 1.5kg by Cavallo two back. can make amends. 3.50
3 SOUTHERN BOSS *** Will lead them up and hard to pass if at his best. 5.00
4 GOLDEN SAND STEED *** Always a winning show on the Poly and will be the one working home late. 4.00
5 HYPERNOVA *** Not far away with support last start and appreciates being back on the Poly. 4.00
6 CASH ADVANCE *** Excuses not to go very close last start similar affair and will be value. 12
7 LIGN EM UP * Needs easier. 50

.

Race 8

Selections; 8 DUTY FREE – 10 SMART SUPREME – 1 GREAT SUN – 7 SING ROULETTE
With so much pace in this race we will put our winning eggs in the swoopers basket and DUTY FREE could be the one doing best work late. A winner of six races (five on the Poly), DUTY FREE has been trialing like he is ready to win and given what he showed late last start in Class 4, he could be hard to hold out. SMART SUPREME is another who could show up in what is a tricky race. The 4YO gets back to his winning trip and given a senior hoop in Michael Rodd goes on, expect a very solid showing. Plenty of others can win but as mentioned most of them have early pace so who settles where will play a big part. GREAT SUN and IMPERIAL BOY both can lead and win while SING ROULETTE and LADY ROULETTE can also play a prominent role. OCEAN GENERAL just one other to watch with an eye on PRIMERA ESPADA at any old odds in this company as is the emergency, BRINGITHOME.

1 GREAT SUN *** Not beaten dar this company last start and in this a very long way from gate 1. 3.00
2 IMPERIAL BOY *** Excuses two back before winning maiden last start. Big show. 4.00
3 OCEAN GENERAL *** Trailing well and could easily win this on best form. 7.00
4 PRIMERA ESPADA ** Form reads badly but appreciates first-up run, company and tongue-tie. Keep safe. 33
5 LUCKY DAPPER ** Drawn wide but gets visor and each-way all the way. 12
6 HAPPY HAPPY ** In the mix and another you can follow each-way at value. 12
7 SING ROULETTE *** Goes fast and in this a very long way from gate 2. 10
8 DUTY FREE *** Will be flying late and a winning show as race should suit swoopers. 16
9 LADY ROULETTE *** Form reads badly but another who goes fast and could show up on a good day. 33
10 SMART SUPREME *** Form reads only fair of late but comes under notice over this trip on Poly in this company. 12
11 BRANKSOME ** Broke maiden status last start but this is tougher. 20
12 KING OF KOON ** Grown a leg since blinkers went on three starts back and pay to keep safe. 20
13 BRINGITHOME *** Always a show and worth a serious look if he gets a start. 20
14 TONGARIRO * Should need longer. 50

.

Race 9

Selections; 3 STRUBELI – 4 MEXICAN GAL – 5 SHIPPING FORECAST – 11 MR FANTASTIC
A very interesting affair to close proceedings and hopefully the trial form has been holding up all night as we like STRUBELI first-up in the last. The 5YO has won four and placed another five times from some 16 career starts and while not starting this year, he looks well placed sans blinkers in this race with Corey Brown a very positive booking. As mentioned his recent trial was a beauty and hopefully he starts at each-way odds. MEXICAN GAL hasn’t won on the turf but goes better than most so happy to think she plays a part in this finish from gate 2 with M Rodd up while another last start winner in FANTASTIC MAN can also win without surprising. Throw in EATONS GOLD and RED DAWN and it will also pay to keep SHIPPING FORECAST safe at long odds as he gets blinkers with a first-up run under his belt.

1 EATONS GOLD *** Recent good form on the Poly but has won on the turf and goes close. 8.00
2 PHILANTHROPIST ** Not far away last couple and will be value. 20
3 STRUBELI *** Resuming after issues last start (heart) but trialing like he gives this a shake with blinkers off. 8.00
4 MEXICAN GAL *** Yet to win on the turf but won too well last start not to follow. 4.00
5 SHIPPING FORECAST *** Appreciates first-up run and get blinkers so keep safe at value. 20
6 GOLD HILL ** Resuming after knocking in his first win in Singapore but might need the run. 12
7 RED DAWN *** Very honest and back to winning trip looks in his favour. 8.00
8 SECRET LIBERTY ** Gate some concern and up in grade but last start Class 4 win good enough to follow. 12
9 CAPTIVATE ** Resuming with some good trials under his belt and pay to include in exotics at odds. 20
10 CATCH ME GREAT ** Disappointing not to win with heavy support last start but will be more than competitive. 8.00
11 MR FANTASTIC *** Backed up good Class 4 win with good trials and goes close. 5.00
12 COOL CAT * Competitive but should need easier to win. 33

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
