Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Silvano enjoyed another magnificent weekend when he had no fewer than five individual winners in South Africa.
Silver Mountain wins the Choice Carriers Championship
Cherry on the top for Silvano was his daughter Silver Mountain’s brilliant, five length win in the G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas.
In the process, the Highlands Stud bred filly became her sire’s 16th individual G1 winner –and Silvano’s second Cape Fillies Guineas winner, following Field Flower back in 2009.
A R1.3 million buy from the Cape Premier Yearling Sale, the Maine Chance Farms owned Silver Mountain has now won four of five outings and just a shade under R1 000 000 in prize money. Her future possible targets include the G1 Grand Parade Cape Guineas and the inaugural CTS $1 million race early next year.
Silver Mountain, who had previously landed the G2 Choice Carriers Fillies Championship last time out, is however one of a number of promising filly winners for her sire over the past few days.
Silvano
Silvano had a pair of sophomore daughters make winning debuts over the past few days –the Ascot Stud bred Silvan Star making a stunning winning debut at Kenilworth just a few days earlier. Owned by Peter de Beyer, the three-year-old daughter of Silvano simply waltzed home over 1200m to win by six lengths.
A three parts sister to the Silvano sired champion Bold Silvano, Silvan Star, who cost R200 000 at last year’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, looks something special in the making.
Just days after Silvan Star made such an eye catching debut, yet another Silvano daughter made a winning debut at Turffontein. This time it was the Henham Stud bred Hollie Point who saluted first time out over 1160m for trainer Alec Laird. The filly sauntered home to win by more than three lengths- and looks another well above average filly to represent Silvano this season.
Silvano has an excellent record as a sire of high class fillies, with his daughters including the now Australian based Gr1 Woolavington Stakes winner Do You Remember, Gr1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship winner Happy Valentine, German 1000 Guineas heroine Mi Emma and former Gr1 Sansui Summer Cup victress Flirtation.

Champion sire in South Africa in 2012-2013 and leading sire in Slovakia in 2007, Silvano has 25 lots on offer at next month’s Cape Premier Yearling.
