Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s Teofilio colt Yakeen could be a July candidate after his MR94 Handicap win at Turffontein on Sunday.
One of four VDJ entries from the top yard, he will be going next for the traditional July last chance saloon – the Gr3 Jubilee Handicap at Turffontein on 10 June.
Yakeen may have to win that to get into the big one – but stablemate Cascapedia, who also walks the Jubilee prep route, is already in.
Bought for Mike de Kock by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum in Melbourne in 2016, Yakeen is a son of the freak Irish star Teofilio (Galileo), who was undefeated in his only five career starts, won two Gr1s and was named European Champion Two-Year-Old in 2006.
At the time of his maiden win, Mike de Kock said: ‘Yakeen looks like a horse for more ground, he has an Oaks winner in his second dam so is bred for further. That he shows the kind of pace he does is encouraging.”
