Shongweni Sale Results

Vercingetorix filly tops sale

The current economy and reduced buying power from the minor centres no doubt contributed to a year-on-year decline at the Shongweni Mixed Sale held at the scenic polo grounds on Tuesday.

Topseller was an unraced Vercingetorix filly out of a stakes placed Jet Master mare.

Suzette Viljoen signed the chit at R280 000 for Abbey Wood (#94) and she told the Sporting Post on Wednesday morning that the athletic youngster will be joining the Lezeanne Forbes yard, where she already has other horses.

The filly was originally purchased for R150 000 by Mark Dixon on the 2019 CTS Cape Premier Yearling Sale when offered by Maine Chance Farms.

97 lots were sold at an aggregate of R2 740 000, which was 50% down on the 101 lots sold last year.

The average price of R28 247 and median of R12 000 were down 38% and 52%, year on year. Last year’s top lot went for R420 000.

BSA next hosts the Cape Yearling Sale at Mistico on Friday 28 February.
