Howells Racing Acquire Shongweni Top Lot

Shongweni Mixed Sale

The Shongweni Mixed Sale comprising horses in training, as well as a host of two-year-olds and yearlings was held at the scenic polo grounds in KZN on Tuesday.

Top price of R420 000 was achieved for #92 Captive Gold – a 2yo Soft Falling Rain ½ sister to the exported Cape Guineas winner Elusive Gold. The filly was purchased by Howells Racing.

Top lot – Captive Gold – daughter of Soft Falling Rain (Pic – Candiese Marnewick)

The seven top lots were all sold off the draft of the  Late MC Gerber Racing.

Showing an improvement on statistics of the past two years, thanks largely to the dispersal of interests of the late Chris Gerber, 101 of the catalogued 125 lots were sold at an aggregate R4 630 000.

This was up 33% on the 2018 total when 107 lots were sold.

The average of R45 842 was up 45% on last year, while the 2019 median of R25 000 was up 66% on 2018.
