Shangani And Nebraas To Slug It Out

Turffontein on Sunday - the first is off at 11h50

Turffontein Racecourse plays host to a nine-race programme on Sunday.

The main event of the day is the weather-delayed Gr3 World Sports Betting Gold Bowl which is Race 7 on the card.

The first is due off at 11h50.

Two top stayers in Shangani and Nebraas look set to do battle in the feature with the former 2kgs better off at the weights after finishing 0,25 lengths behind the Tarry longhauler last time.

Shangani won his only start over the 3200m three runs ago. He is having his peak run here and should notch up his ninth career victory.

Past Equus champion stayer Nebraas was not disgraced when a decent fifth in the Gr1 WSB Premier’s Champions Challenge last time.

He won a good race in the Gr3 WSB Caradoc Gold Cup in his penultimate start. The 6yo gelding is in a good space and merits healthy respect

Rose Tinted from the Ashley Fortune stable takes her place in Race 2. She followed up her maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1000m on the Inside course.

The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will enjoy the extra 160m on offer. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo which will help her chances.

Trainer Lucky Houdalakis saddles Splendid Season in the lucky last race. She moved up well in her last start over 1200m but was outrun late.

She has won once and finished third twice from four starts on this course. The daughter of What A Winter should have no issues with the drop to 1000m. She has dropped to a competitive rating and with Kaidan Brewer retaining the ride, she may be the one to side with.

Brian Nyawo is not riding.
