The twelve strikes crop rule has been the subject of plenty of debate in recent years.
For Serino Moodley, the joy of his first career Gr1 win in the Mercury Sprint on Pearl Of Asia last season has turned sour.

Ina media release published on Wednesday 25 August 2021, the National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Durban on 24 August 2021, Jockey Serino Moodley was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read in conjunction with Guideline M on the use of the crop).
The particulars being that he misused his crop by striking PEARL OF ASIA more than 12 times in Race 8, run at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 31 July 2021.
Jockey Moodley pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.
The Inquiry Board, after considering all factors and taking into account Jockey Moodley’s poor recent record in relation to this Rule, as well as the fact that this was a Gr1 race, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of ten days.
Jockey Moodley has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
