Trainer Sean Tarry – well deserved acknowledgement

Sean Tarry has won the R1 million bonus for the trainer of the highest earning horse from the Book 2 sale of 2013, thanks to the exploits of two fillies who propelled him far ahead of competing trainers.

Siren’s Call (by Elusive Fort) and Trophy Wife (by Tiger Ridge) tangled during the Highveld season with the former prevailing each time over her game stable mate, who would typically close late for a placing. Siren’s Call earned over R2.5 million, well ahead of Trophy Wife (R1,1 million) as she in turn raked in nearly double Easy Lover’s (by Right Approach) receipts.

In an epic year for Tarry, he also lifted the Champion Trainer of South Africa title. From 1062 runners, he found the No 1 box 15% of the time, with 55% of his entries attaining a place. He saddled 164 winners, with a particularly outstanding record in prized features and lucrative Stakes races sending earnings soaring to nearly R26 million for appreciative patrons.

Conditioning racehorses for a living is potentially rewarding, as these stats indicate, but nearly always accompanied by daily dramas and stress, so he understandably declared himself “relieved” upon receiving the awards. Tarry graciously paid tribute to his team, who ensure that, “all our horses get five star treatment”, whilst jesting wryly that “all I do is plan and moan!” He is indeed a meticulous strategist and a highly competitive individual, who deserves full credit for sustained professional excellence in one very tough game.

CTS extends warm congratulations to Sean Tarry.
