Turffontein Plays A Solid Second Fiddle Today

Jackpot 1 starts in the fifth race at 15h05

With all the attention focussed at Kenilworth today, a nine-race programme is scheduled for Turffontein this afternoon.

Jockey Marco van Rensburg who has ridden 28 winners this season looks to have a decent book of rides and may be worth following throughout the day.

The first race is off at 12h45 and the meeting closes at 17h20.

Queen Supreme goes out for the Mike de Kock stable in race 7 today. (Pic-Chae Liebenberg))

Jimmy The Rich writes that Queen Supreme from the powerful Mike de Kock stable is the best bet on the day.

She found one too good in the form of War Of Athena in the Grade 2 World Sports Betting Ipi Tombe Challenge last time. The 5yo mare has won twice, finished second twice and third twice from seven starts on this course.

She is the best weighted runner in this contest and should take a power of beating.

Candice Dawson saddles Var Aglow in Race 8. He was a tad disappointing last time over the minimum trip at the Vaal.

He raced from just off the pace and didn’t go on with his effort. The run that catches the eye is when finishing 1.1 lengths behind Phinda Mzala, three runs ago.

He is 9.5kgs better off at the weights today and if repeating that effort, he should be the one to beat.

The false rail is 6m on the back straight to 10m on the bend. There is a 10m spur at the 700m mark.

  • The Bipot starts in the second at 13h20
  • The Place Accumulator starts in the third at 13h55
  • The Pick 6 starts in the fourth at 14h30
  • Jackpot 1 starts in the fifth race at 15h05
  • Jackpot 2 starts in the sixth race at 15h35

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
