The standalone meeting this afternoon takes place at Turffontein on the Inside course.

The feature race of the day is the Listed Syringa Handicap, which is Race 7 on the card.

Johan Janse van Vuuren and Gavin Lerena team up in Race 4 with Cartel Boss. He produced a promising debut effort over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

He understandably raced green that day, but stayed on nicely at the finish.

The son of Oratorio would have gained from the experience and will enjoy the extra furlong on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

Marygold takes her place in the Listed Syringa Handicap. She is much better than her last three starts suggest.

She has won twice and finished third once from six starts over this distance. She finished third in her only attempt on this course.

The daughter of Flower Alley gets fitted with the tongue-tie and if the equipment has the desired effect, she can return to winning ways.

Cartel Boss will race with ear muffs on today.

The false rail is 9.5m on the back straight and bend with a 10m spur at the 500m mark.
