Sample Tampering – Gqeberha Jockey Suspended

Admission of guilt signed

Gqeberha based jockey Sandile Khathi has incurred a 365 day suspension, which was suspended for a period of 300 days, after he was found to have tampered with a urine sample.

Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rules 77.1.1 and 77.2.2 in that he presented himself on a racecourse to take part in races on 23 February 2024, 1 March 2024, 8 March 2024 & 15 March 2024 when a sample of urine contained a banned substance, namely Carboxy THC (Cannabis).

He signed an admission of guilt and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 14 days (dates: 25 May 2024 to 7 June 2024, both dates inclusive)

Kathi was also charged with a contravention of Rules 72.1.17 and 72.1.37 in that he added water to and therefore misled the Stewards and tampered with a urine sample that was taken from him on 1 March 2024, at Fairview Racecourse.

He signed an admission of guilt and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 365 days, of which 300 days are suspended for a period of five years on condition that he is not found guilty of a contravention of any rules pertaining to tampering with samples or the misleading of Officials.

The applicable dates are 21 March 2024 to 24 May 2024, both dates inclusive, of which the commencement of which was backdated to the enactment of the interim suspension that was imposed.
