Drakenstein Stud Farm’s Same Jurisdiction (Mambo In Seattle – Diana De Carlo)
Drakenstein Stud Farm’s Same Jurisdiction (Mambo In Seattle – Diana De Carlo) will make her UK debut in the Gr3 Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes over 7 furlongs at Doncaster on Friday, 9 September 2016.
The daughter of Mambo In Seattle joins a classy field of 7 fillies, including 2015 Gr1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Lumiere (Mark Johnstone / James Doyle) and will face the starter at 13:55 (14:55 local time).
Drakenstein Stud Farm’s racing manager Kevin Sommerville told the Sporting Post, “It was Gaynor’s idea to send her overseas. She wanted to expose a really good filly to the European scene and see where we are with her.”
“It’s obviously an arduous journey, but Same Jurisdiction is a very sound filly and very sound minded and we thought she was the right type of filly to try overseas. She has been with Ed Dunlop for 2 months and 10 days now. He’s happy with her and she’s working well and he was keen to get her started.”
“It’s the perfect race for her, but has turned out a lot tougher than we hoped for,” he admits. “There are some very talented fillies in the race and it looks more like a Gr1 than a Gr3, but racing in England is very competitive. It’s her first start in England and she has it all to do in a tough field, but jockey Ryan Moore is very good and will give her every chance.”
“We have no definite plans as yet and will be very happy if she runs a good race.”
Same Jurisdiction is from the first crop of Mambo In Seattle out of the lightly raced one-time winning Captain Al mare, Diana De Carlo. Same Jurisdiction was bred by Klawervlei Stud (and pinhooked by Duncan Barry and John Gatt for R25 000 at the 2012 Cape Mare & Weanling Sale) before being purchased by Howells Racing for R270 000 on the 2013 KZN Yearling Sale. She was trained by Duncan Howells and raced in the interests of Messrs I.F.M. van Schalkwyk, D.C. Howells, L.C. Vermaak, Dr R.H. Katzwinkel and Mrs M.A.M. Powell before Drakenstein Stud Farm purchased an interest at the end of her 2yo racing season. After finishing second to Smart Call in the 2016 Gr1 Majorca Stakes, Drakenstein Stud bought out the remaining partners and decided to campaign the filly abroad.
